Since the beginning of October, the Armed Forces of Ukraine liberated dozens of settlements in the Kherson region, including Zolota Balka. For more than seven months, the locals lived alongside the Russian occupants. This report shows how they survived the occupation.

The angles, framing, the way the sound of a dog barking comes one second before on top of the previous frame -- that's how a real high end production looks like. If you dig just a little bit deeper, you'll find out that humans can die but the poor dog or cat is what really bothers you... until you realize, in it's core it's actually just a well hidden and curated -- hate for humanity.

I am simply reminding you that we don't _just_ need "the ground to walk on and the air to breathe", we also need, at a minimum, the ecosystems which allow us to eat, and beyond that the well-being that comes fairly directly from exposure to nature. I am not one of those people that is excessively concerned with pet welfare. I don't hate humanity, but the place would be improved by rather fewer of us, exerting less pressure on everything else. We should get to that state eventually because birthrates are now at a sustainable level worldwide, but we have to navigate at least the next 20 years (and maybe 40) before global population starts to decline, preferably without doing too much more damage to the systems upon which we (and all the other creatures) depend along the way. This period looks likely to be tricky, but is do-able.

I enjoyed listening to the residents of of Zolota Balka and how they talked back to the occupiers. I had to look up what balka meant. Ukrainian villages have such interesting, meaningful names. My congratulations to them for their courage. It's such an inspiration during a terrible trying time.
