@@AlexSwanson-rw7cv He can comment on how the very expensive gold-nibbed fountain pen somehow doesn't have an iridium tip, which my sister tells me is standard for expensive pens since stainless steel is too scratchy. Pretty weird choice by Novium given that all iridium comes from space so you'd think that would fit right in with their interstellar edition. (correction: The "Iridium" used by manufacturers of expensive fountain pens today apparently hasn't contained any actual iridium since the 50s, and is usually some mix of ruthenium, rhenium and tungsten)

Back in the 1990's I use to believe in online 'free speech'. After running my own IRC and forums for over 25+ years now, I can say that the shear amount of highly toxic cow manure users post needs to be moderated. Anyone who doesn't believe me, go start your own community and do not moderate the chat or forums. I would love to know how long it takes before your group is completely drowned in drama & garbage.
@YourCapyFrenBigly_3DPipes19996 ай бұрын
I think as long as the boards don't degenerate into total insanity it should remain almost fully uncontrolled. People should feel free to say almost anything, although I agree that some comments go too far, but I want to be careful when it comes to forcefully preventing free communication. Not all ideas are great or positive but only be being able to share one's ideas is there a chance that one can reevaluate themselves at any point. I would rather give other people a chance to honestly react to a negative sentiment thereby giving that person opportunity to possibly change their mind, then simply clamping down. Most drama online will work itself out in a pretty short time period without outside interference. So I do oppose most moderation because I've never felt it ever helped me have a more enriching online experience than I would otherwise without someone trying to control my words, or the words of others. If I feel someone is way out of bounds I'd prefer the right to tell them so, or at least report them, then someone preventing us from speaking. Disagreements and debates can be just as valuable as calm conversations where everyone feels the same way. Moderation really bothers me because it's someone else taking away my right to say what's on my mind, or react to those of others. Its not like I can't leave the space if I feel it's no longer worthwhile for me. So in almost all cases I oppose moderation and speech control. As an adult I don't need others trying to protect my delicate ears or shut me down and I want to hear from those who disagree with as well as agree with me. For 18+ spaces I feel most moderation is either unfair or counterproductive or does a disservice to it's users.

I find it fascinating how everyone focuses on the big winners in this situation - the few guys who made millions. But, no one ever acknowledges that this was a zero sum game from the start. The stocks did crash back down. That means for every millionaire that was created, there were literally THOUSANDS of people who lost their money on these plays. And the fact is had those people simply bought an index fund and sat on it this whole time, then they would be ahead right now.
@Pdub_Productions6 ай бұрын
Not sure you actually understand what the point was. 8 hedge funds shorted around 140% of the float. They lost billions of dollars covering their shorts. Robin Hood, for whatever reason, disallow buying the stock which caused panic selling, which i allowed seven of those hedge funds to cover their contracts. The vast majority of the money that was lost came from those hedge funds. Initially, the people who invested, when they were on Stocktwits, did so because of fundamentals. Once they got to WSB, it was a parent that it was going to be possible to force a short squeeze. The point was to cause pain to the hedge funds. Everybody knows. Many of the people would’ve been better off if they just stuck with ETFs, but that was not the point of the exercise.
@gordongekko27816 ай бұрын
@@Pdub_Productions So, who do you think was left holding all of those shares when it came crashing back down? It wasn't the hedge funds. They were never long the stock. Some retail traders made a bundle, some lost a bundle, some hedgies also lost a fortune, and some hedgies made their money back in the crash that followed. In the end it was a zero sum game, because the company isn't actually creating wealth. In reality the company is losing money. All of this is just a shell game. But, it's off to the races again, so it'll be entertaining to see where it peaks this time before inevitably crashing back down again.

I used to watch Wallstreetbets and I can say that out of the 5 million members about 100 regular members are the only ones who are actually good. 100/5000000

“Meme stocks”have been around as long as humans have existed.It’s simply humans scrambling not to be left behind.

no, GS was a true meme stock, it wasn't idiots gambling, swindling or playing the market, it was net users trying to bankrupt shorters for a laugh

I'm more of a long term investor in Gamestop, and I'm curious if you think their fundamentals are still pointing to bankrupcy. There are a lot of memes and conspiracy theories about Gamestop, but there are also investors that are excited about the turnaround of Gamestop. (For context:) I don't buy any other 'meme' stocks, and I don't plan to sell everything during a squeeze.
@fenrirgg6 ай бұрын
Well you should sell during any squeeze. GameStop hasn't had profits for many years.

They're bleeding and the plans to stop bleeding have not been effective, I don't think it's impossible to stop the bankruptcy but Gamestop's current business model is terribly positioned with today's consumers and nothing they've tried seems to be what they need to stop the bankruptcy. We'll see, but I'm not positive they'll be around in a decade.

maybe if they can come up with a few more ways to spend millions to sell $100 of NFTs every day they can overcome the fact that their business is completely pointless in this day and age

I'm not sure about this one. A lot of the talk is about the community, which realistically now is full of conspiracy theorists that are hoping for thousand percent returns. But keep up the journalism please Patrick
