There are so many ways to compost in the garden... I like to keep it simple and easy and let nature do her thing and help out the process. Less work and more compost is what I prefer and that's why I love using compost tumblers and worm farms! In today's video I share how to harvest compost from a worm farm and compost tumbler. Another great idea is to make a square frame and put some smallish wire mesh on one side that will sit across your wheel barrow so when you slid it rapidly forwards and backwards the awesome compost will be seperated from the chunky bits , anything left in the sive can go back to the compost pile and you have the most amazing compost in your barrow , saves a lot of work trying to sort it out , easy as. 👍

you dont worry about taking the worms with the compost to the garden? i have been making sure that they go back to the bottom tray and it takes hours in the sun for them to go down...

It’s definitely something to think about ☺️ I’m not too worried though as I’ve watched the worms multiple over the years. There always seems to be plenty in the worm farms ☺️

Interesting about cat feces. So I’m understanding that the worm bin to get the cat feces is used on non-edible plants? That’s interesting about the indoor versus outdoor/ raw meat thing. I don’t know if you seen lately, but I’m just doing inground composting. I’m loving it. And technically I’m feeding the worms 🪱 directly!

I’ve always struggled with compost. This year, I’m allowing my tiny dinosaurs to do it for me. I have a corner of Dinotopia where I chuck my garden waste for them to pick through. I have deep litter straw there, so the ducks eat and poop on the straw, the chickens scratch and aerate it. When I want to top up my garden beds, I dig up that black soil and broken straw and chuck it in my black compost barrel for a few weeks to finish it off. So far, it’s the best compost I’ve ever made. The worms are already in the soil, so I have their castings for free. I have a separate compost barrel for dog poo, unhatched eggs, and any corpses I find…the dogs always find any local fauna that drops out of a tree and bring their prizes to me. Into the composter it goes. That goes for fruit trees. It’s all new to me, so it’s a Grand Experiment™️ with lots of course corrections. Thank you, as always, for sharing your knowledge and experience with a newbie like me.

Have you the thoroughly researched potential parasites in cat faeces - toxoplasmosis and its problems including birth defects? Just be sure you're aware of what your dealing with, be safe 🙂

I’ve done a bit of research to make sure we’re safe ☺️ our cats don’t go outside or consume raw meat which is where they’d contract the infection. We’re always cautious with any compost or in general in the garden wearing gloves and make sure that the worm castings go down the back of the property around non edibles ☺️ It definitely pays to be safe particularly if your cats are outdoor cats

Hi Ya Robyn my tomatoes have all grown from the compost bin which I am harvesting at the moment. I was hot composting before, not doing much currently but hopefully I will take care🪱♻️🥦

Hi Barry, tomatoes seem to LOVE growing in the compost. Volunteer tomatoes are the best haha. Haven’t tried too much hot composting but it looks interesting! Hope you have a great week ahead ☺️
