Looks like you have plenty of room to expand if needed.

Thank you so much for adding the idea about the teepee branches. My pumpkins got so so huge already that they overtook their area and the fence they were growing on, and are going over it and back into where my tomatoes are. I'll try the teepee support for them.
@togetherweharvest4 ай бұрын
You’re welcome. I’m not sure how to support the pumpkins off the ground. It would work with the smaller pumpkins if you grow those. They do make netting for larger crops that trellis and hang.

I love your garden! You've given me lots of ideas. I've heard you say you're not really a gardener, but you definitely are! Keep inspiring us.

Thank you! Yes, I suppose by definition I am a gardener, you’re right. The main idea of the channel is to hopefully promote and encourage self reliance within the broader homesteading modal, rather than just gardening. Thanks for watching.
@JodiMontano5 ай бұрын
@togetherweharvest self reliance is definitely the reason I garden! I wish I was off grid, but at least I'm on land and in the country. I'm soaking up all the knowledge of the old ways of life that I possibly can.

Very interesting how you use the tree limb trellis and only allow the squash to grow over one increment. I like the plan and I’m heartened to know you’ve had success- I think I’ll try it!

It’s definitely worth a shot, especially since they’re free. It looks neat too.

You're more efficient with your space than me. I definitely need to do several cattle panel archways like you have. My garden is 20x60. A woodchuck has been getting in past 2 days. It ate all of my 12 broccoli, 6 of 8 kale, some watermelon and about 6 lettuce. Hoping to have some stew within the next couple days.
@togetherweharvest5 ай бұрын
Sorry to hear about the woodchucks. Have you tried live traps with peanut butter on an apple?
@T-Mo_4 ай бұрын
@@togetherweharvestI haven't tried that. Our game commission doesn't recommend relocating them as a rabies vector species. I might try though if they persist. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks for sharing your mid-July garden! I'm in zone 4b too, we're state neighbors. What kind of pests have you been dealing with for your zucchini? We get squash vine borers every year, they're the worst. We grow lots of food for our family in a 20 by 24 foot area by planting intensively and live on a postage stamp lot in town. It's so rewarding, looking forward to the season of abundance. Tried garlic for the first time this year and it grew great, there's always something to learn!
@togetherweharvest4 ай бұрын
Ahh well done. It’s nice hearing from someone being successful with a small garden. We dealt with cucumber beetles for the first month or so after planting. We still have a few buzzing around but not too much. Sorry to hear about the vine borers, I’ve heard those are awful.

These are goals for my garden next year!

Glad it was helpful. I think they’re good places to start. For us, the game changer was only growing food we have on our grocery list, rather than experimenting with all unfamiliar crops.
@TheCrockersHomestead4 ай бұрын
@@togetherweharvest yes. That is exactly our theory. My garden isn't big this year but I am expanding and will only grow what we eat. If for some reason a crop does come up that we won't eat or have too much of, I'll give it away. I don't like seeing food go to waste.

How big is your growing space?

@@togetherweharvest my earth bed plot is about 30ft long and about 6ft wide. I also have a raised bed where I am growing cucumbers, jalepeno, and okra. I have a few videos on my channel showing it all. I am about to start direct sowing some greens for a fall harvest. So with that being said, a couple more of my squash plants will have to go because they aren't producing. I think I am having a pollination issue.

Look up the definition of modern homesteading. Who said my house has a mortgage?
