Thank you for being honest and not saying "just do what you like and it's ok", but you mentioned about "plan b" and about your luck. But you forget to say something, so I will do it for you: BUY HER BOOKS Thank you for all what you doing for cosplay community!
@KamuiCosplay6 жыл бұрын
I think it's unfair to tell people to just blindly follow their dreams. Luck is always a big part of it. A lottery winner shouldn't tell people to spend all their money buying lottery tickets, just because it worked for him/her. I had a plan b and a safety net and without those I probably would have chosen otherwise tbh. It's okay do have a stable day job and do what you like in the evening. :)

It is very rare for cosplayers to make this a thing 24/7 ....I only know of a handful off the top of my head ...many are also prop makers ...it's hard also because your using a copyrighted IP there are ways around it but there is also a stress of being shut down luckily the cosplay community you don't have it happen very much but it does happen ...many who do this are actually employed by video game companies and do promotional gigs ....but to get to this level takes hard work ....and tons of networking...you don't have this happen over night ..it's the takes years of hard work ! Also of your working doing commissions of cosplay and props you need to first be good at what you do before you sell items to others ...you don't want to sell items that won't hold up to the rigorous of a con ....you have to learn the skills before you can profit from it
@lorehandcreations10026 жыл бұрын
I agree with you on this completely, there always has to be that long goal to get where you need in life. Not everyone can do what someone else does, just because it worked for them. Situations, timing, personal life will always factor in there. No body should quit a day job, to try and be a KZbin star. It doesn't happen over night and it may never happen. But doing what you love should always factor in real life, keep working and paying those bills (Don't depend on followers to do that for you, they have to pay their own bills) Keep making your crafts and sharing, shout out to other artiest who are also doing the same thing, or share a link to where you might have found the inspiration for what you made. It's mainly about artist supporting other artist and helping each other. But yes, have fun making your art and keep the job until things work out for you. The loooonnnggg Plan. :)

This video was super interesting, thank you! I'm not a cosplayer myself but I really enjoy knowing the process of making a costume, and I love the enthusiasm and professionalism of your videos. Also, you are a beautiful couple! (But of course the main reason I follow you are Zelda and Midna. Of course.) I'm sure it took a lot of courage to take that leap of faith not knowing if it would pay off, but, as you said, if you believe in yourself, and with a bit of luck, things often work out. I'm very glad this was your case, because you both deserve success, and being able to do the thing you love for a living is really satisfying.

Really great to hear how you went from hobby creator to creating your own small business. When I hear "professional cosplayer" I think of people who created a business or opportunities from cosplaying because making and wearing costumes doesn't pay the bill, but providing the other services like you mentioned and interacting with your fanbase is what makes you a "professional." Keep on doing what you are doing, so hobbyists like me can keep making in our free time. Also you should get US based cosplay online stores to start stocking new items/materials you use, like that transparent foam stuff.

You two rock, seriously. I just recently bought your current book bundle, which I'm super excited to have both for the content and for supporting you in your work! With that said, if you don't do it already, I'd definitely say make the ability to buy books as streamlined as possible! I would gladly buy anymore books you two make, but it may be confusing to tell what is new and what isn't. It may also be advantageous to have some sort of, "supporters" discount where people who have bought the bundle or have provided X would be given the bundle like discount even though it's a solo purchase. I dunno I'm no businessman and I'm hardly qualified lol, but I just wanted to leave a positive comment. I hope you guys continue to be awesome! I know I'll be here for the long haul~

Thanks so much. It's a good feedback thank you. Providing discounts based on how much you spent it hard since every book would get cheaper and one new book only costs 5$ already. (Would have to differentiate between print and eBook as well). What we do however is: if you've bought a book and leave a review you'll get an additional 5% discount via email (only for registered accounts) :)

Thanks for this video. This means a lot to me. I'm working on a project, wich is working in my own costume (medieval and historical / LARP / cosplay) crafting and sewing company. Your video was a great inspiration for me. Everybody starts from somewhere, then we learn. I'm waiting to see if I can join a sewing school in september, then with my degree in can work in "traditional" sewing stuff, or make my dream come true. I'm already trying to make costumes for others (thanks to my boyfriend, he's gonna have his own home-made 40k costume), and I'm learning how to start my company. Thank you so much for sharing your story. I’m a University graduate with a degree in Zoology but after creating my first cosplay during my studies I fell in love with costume, specifically costumes with wings. I attended my first convention only 3 years ago (Wellington Armageddon in NZ), and last year when competing in my first ever cosplay contest with my 2nd ever costume I got invited to visit a drama school where I now study set and prop making. One thing that scares me so much about this complete change in direction is how I would ever make a living from it, but after watching this I have a bit more confidence that I can turn my dream of being a wing builder into an actual thing.

I feel so discouraged some times and I’m at a point where I’m not motivated to get better. I just see all these incredible artists and i just don’t know how to get there. I know it takes practice but i can’t seem to get over the hump to make myself get better with practice. It makes me not enjoy doing it. It makes me feel like I’m not going to get better because i can’t seem to start. I’m also relatively new to the community and i make myself think that I’m not good enough to be in it. This is such toxic thinking but your video has been what I’ve been asking for and i really appreciate you so much. I love punished props btw and I’ve emailed a couple of prop shops in my area to try to get myself more familiarized. I have you book too, and it’s great for beginners... so basically, thank you!!

Whenever you see people online that are really talented, just think they are at a different point in their lives than you. Everybody's story is different and we all start at different ages and skill levels. I started with cosplay when I was 17 but there were others that already were better than me at 14. Doesn't matter. You'll get better just by doing a thing for a long time and the most important thing is to start and doing it for yourself, not comparing yourself to others, more experienced people all the time.

I'm actually very glad you decided to publish your books :) I did my first costume myself without knowing anything and it worked out surprisingly well actually. But cosplay is a very expensive hobby and therefore you obviously want to have the best possible results you can get if you are investing so much money. So I bought almost all your books (except the ones for the more experienced cosplayers because I need to stay realistic xD) I'm working on my second cosplay now and I'm sure your books will help me a lot!

Your work and even the first German tutorials helped me so much and made more sense even with my bad German than most English ones especially the worbla ones. And still do, big love to you both and puppies
