Hi Avery, great question, thanks for asking. It depends of your skills to build it custom. If you have a skill, it can be a better return on investment. Unfortunately, I see too many people starting the convertion without finishing it, so that create financial loss. For me, buying a “ready to rent” campervan was the best to start generating income in the first month :)

Thank you for all your info. I live in a mountain town and was considering purchasing a Sprinter for this purpose. I can’t afford one but this is a possibility to help subsidize the high cost. What are the pitfalls of this possibly going wrong? My thoughts are that it would most likely be rented in the spring thru fall only and my hope is that could more than cover the payment,insurance (personal) and maintenance. Really good question, well it depends of the lenght of the rental. If you rent for 4 weeks, it will probably take 4-5 hours to clean, prepare and do check in with the renters. If you rent only for 2-3 days at the time, you will spent 4-5 hours every time you rent. I hope this answer your question :-)

Hey Aj! I think it’s a great idea to chose a bumper pull instead of an RV because the mileage won’t affect the resale price. You can check out similar units here to find out the average nightly price you can get. Than divide your investment per that number. It will give you the numbee of nights you need to rent it to cover your investmentt. Also keep in mind that you have to add maintenance cost and supplies (ex. Soap or other stuff). :)

Hey Phillip! Thanks for reaching out! Of course it’s a good idea some people ends up having multiple units just for renting, it’s like having any type of second income or side business. It’s all about return on investment. Depending on your location, you can forecast by unit type. I suggest you test different type of units from Class B to Travel Trailer to find out the price per night you can charge. We have an extended warranty that covers everything broken. Are we allowed to use the coverage if someone breaks or damages something while it's being rented out? We still need it if something breaks when we use it, but what about when something breaks during the rental time?

When you rent your RV on Rvezy (nomadjunkies.com/go/rvezy-owner-signup/) or Outdoorsy (nomadjunkies.com/go/outdoorsy-en-owner-sign-up/), the time the unit is rented, it's not under your insurance. I will be RVezy and Outdoorsy insurance. It won't affect your insurance if something breaks during the rental. You will have to lie to your insurance to say you were the one using it when it breaks to claim it under your extended warrranty, and I won't recommend it. Insurance will look for the truth and find out it was rented. But like I said, it's all good, because every rental is covered by the insurance of the platform you rent on. Nooo unfortunately they won't, I don't think it's part of their business model. For Airbnb (apartment rental), eventually some other businesses like Luckey (whish was later bought by Airbnb) was doing the concierge service, taking care of the keys, cleaning etc. I beliebe we are few years from that with the camper!

Hey John! Really good question, I was not able to the math, it's quick tricky. It is definitely something to keep in mind, more mileage will devalue the unit. Hi Pauline! Thanks for reaching out! It’s gross before the expenses. For taxes purpose, we keep all our expenses receipts, so all the regular maintenance cost and even the interest on our loan are considered expenses. We only pay taxes on the profit.

How critical do you think your location is to being successful? Is it important that you are nearby attractions people want to go to? We are in Omaha NE and it’s not a destination for people to fly into, so I’d think it would just be the local population taking an RV on trips to other cool places…

You could be surprised how in less touristic areas, there is a pretty good market. Maybe your neighbours want to rent one for a roadtrip. In less popular destinations, you have less competition, so it can actually a good thing.

I don't know about everyone else but both the bank and insurance companies ask you specifically if you are going to rent your RV. My feeling is that the bank will call the loan and your insurance will cancel you. Notice how he says nothing about that. Read your bank financing and your RV insurance documents. I'm sure you'll find these exceptions. In my documents it says under penalty and perjury you answered honestly.

@@AlexRoseTravels You do have a choice Einstein. Break the law and go to jail. Just because your happy go lucky you should want other people to follow you over the cliff. Don't buy insurance and except all the risks. You need them they don't need you. Try and remember Einstein when people file claims it is they who pay out more than you ever paid them. For me I will follow the rules and let insurance companies take all the risk and I will pay their premiums so I don't lose all I've ever work for.

They won’t insure my 2007 sprinter, also 2 rentals in and they the renters destroy your home! It’s not safe by any means, the 2nd rental a lady side swipes the door leaves it at a gas station and leaves it. Now we need a night hours tow which is expensive. She used her own insurance and we have it but what a nightmare. Every rental people are trashing it, not just me but many have had the same stories. I now in 3k debt out of my own pocket. It’s not all roses and your lucky they don’t trash it.

FAKE SMILE ON THIS KID! He knows nothing! There is a learning curve to owning RV's, Boats and in general any big boy toy. Everyone who touches these big investment toys including the owner make mistakes and every mistake costs money not even mentioning stuff just breaks. This is complete BS. Depreciation is not mentioned. Depreciation BY FAR your biggest bill. RV's are not money makers period.

That depends. This guy only rents it 6 months out of the year meaning he probably uses it the other 6 months. So for him to be able to make money on it while he isn't using it makes it worth it. Maybe it's not a good investment for those who don't plan on using it at all because they will only be covering depreciation.

Hi Bruce, I'm Emilie, the co-owner, I will answer this one. You are right about depreciation, it is something we keep in mind, our extra mileage was too low at the beginning, so not good for 2-3 weeks rental, but we charge more now for extra mileage. We've been renting it for 2 years now, 6 months each year, going on our 3rd summer. If you want to make a living out of it, it's another game, but definitely doable. If we had to get 100K income a year, we will probably buy Travel Trailers to rent, because the depreciation is way less because mileage doesn't count. We will probably aslo buy and rent converted mini-vans because they rent for as much as big units and they are wayyy cheaper to buy. Personally, I don't want to travel in a mini-van with a bed in the back (I did it in my 20's in New Zealand), I like more comfort now. And yes we do use our unit 6 months of the year so it's not the purpose to make as much money as we can, it's more to covert the cost and a little extra money to travel too.

Hi there! It’s obviously not a trailer, it’s a 90k $ Class B, you can check the rental price per night. Usually it’s around 200$ a night, if it was rented 30 days per month, it will be 6k$ a month… but we don’t rent it full time and we have lower months
