you guys are absolutely incredible at what you do. There hasn't been a session that I've watched where the sound sounded bad, so on behalf of everyone that enjoys these sessions, THANK YOU!

Hi Rick and Patrick, thanks to make Audiotree Sessions sound even better than the original songs!

How do you mic and mix brass instruments like trumpets and trombones? What about quieter wind instruments like flutes and clarinets?
@audiotree9 жыл бұрын
+Carlos Diaz For these sessions we usually use a Sennheiser MD421 pretty close to the bell. Because these are typically loud relative to the rest of the band, we want a pretty up front, direct capture, as their bleed into the rest of the mics in the room are going to contribute a little more openness. Flutes and clarinets we'll usually use a ribbon like a Royer 122. So far we haven't been in a situation where either of those is playing over a full band, but if you did, you'd probably want something a little more focused like a small diaphragm condenser. -Patrick

Don't you guys some times blend samples with your natural snare sounds? Be honest :)
@audiotree9 жыл бұрын
+cameron campbell Nope! Since we mix as the band is playing, we wouldn't able to even if we wanted. Maybe 5-10 bands in our history have come in with triggers, but those have always been to add a digital drum sound to their shells. AT engineers have never used any samples. We like fresh baked drum tones from scratch. -Patrick

+Audiotreetv Right on. Your guys' drum tones are always great. I'm sure it helps having them all use the same kit more or less. Nothing worse than an ultra dynamic instrument with zero dynamics. Keep up the good work!

What capsules are you using on the AKG 480s? Also wondering if you're gating shells or leaving them wide open? Love your work!

How do you process those overheads? Snare mic, and high hat?

Is that a 20" x 16" inch kick? Always loved the punchy-ness the bass drum had on the sessions?

WHat kind of vocal mics do you use as the room mics? I didn't understand that part. I loved seeing Now Now on this channel, they were awesome!

Still waiting for the behind the scenes of how you handle eq/compression/gating/ in detail. In a live room. You talk mics and expensive things, and brag about your gear to make it work but why not do an "Audio Tree" simple sessions. Use gear people can afford, and make a mix like this.
