This is so good! We paid $560,000 for our house in Canada in November 2018 - we put down $305,000 and worked extremely hard since then and now have $21,000 left! We cannot wait to have it paid off in 2023! Thanks for the inspo! 😊

Bless your heart friends for allowing yourselves to be used by Our Father in helping so many come out of mortgage debt...This is written in the middle of the Corona pandemic. Just before the pandemic I was grateful to be able to make mortgage payments with 15 years to go. Now unemployed due to the pandemic my unemployment is next to nothing. I know in my heart God woke me up and you were the first faces I saw for the first time ever at 6 in the morning. HE told me that I can do this even in the midst of lesser money. I'd like to say I'm excited for a five year plan. Because you said one key sentence "just put an extra $20 towards the Principal. I can do this and I know God will make way for more to make this happen on time or before!

🤭😭 Because of your encouragement & inspirational stories, my hubby & I PAID OFF about SEVEN bills in the last 5 months!! Again I say, you both ARE helping someone & I’m one 🙋🏽 Though I started off with many medical bills, God blessed me & spared my life. So I can’t complain 🙏🏽 I understand when things happen. My transmission was getting worse & leaving me stuck on the job. Last Monday I bought a car. In sticking with “the plan” I bought used, low miles & worked the dealer for a car I CAN afford - not just pmt but I was adamant about the total price 🤗We are now working on 3 CC bills & our older car note👍🏽 God bless you & your children.

If you don't mind me asking, how long have you had your mortgage for. We just brought own first home and I am DESPERATELY looking to pay off that loan ASAP. I know if it is income based but I am looking to find a more realistic time frame of paying off ours because ifI get discouraged, it is hard to jump back into it.

We bought in 2011 on a short sale, so the purchase price was such a blessing! We did buy with a down payment and 15 year mortgage as advised by Dave. We started sending extra to the principal this January. Good luck on your financial journey, you can do it!

WE just bought our home last June during our retirement transition and it took him 9 months to find a job. Thank you for inspiring us! God Bless

My husband and I sent the goal of paying off our mortgage in 7 years when we moved in 2 years ago, yesterday! You're right, God does amazing things - we have paid off $100,000 (just principal, I'm not sure the interest at this point) in the past 2 years. Not to mention in that during the past two years, from two modest incomes to just one, had to buy a "new" (read new to us) car, and had a baby. It doesn't make sense at all how we have been able to pay so much in 2 years except to say it's a complete gift from God! Only about $85,000 left to go!

God willing we will be done with his student loan this December if not a month of two before December. We have definitely felt great about our accomplishments thus far. Are yo retiring in 5yrs? Otherwise INVEST the difference! Mortgage is cheap money/good debt and you can't get the extra payments back if needed... Extra payment under $100/mo is fine and helps "buy down" ur effective rate but anything else should be in an individual investment account, when you have enough use it for a down payment on a rental duplex!

How inspiring!!! Thank you. I laughed out loud when you said you started your journey toward your goal only able to pay an extra $20 a month. You are SO right when you say that God will multiply what you have, even when the math doesn't make sense. I've seen that miracle happen in my life. When you put God first, He blesses you. It's that simple. Our only debt is the mortgage and we're looking at paying it off early. But thank you for the push to set a goal. If we set a goal we will have something to shoot for rather than just continuing to pay a little extra per month. Thank you and God bless!

I'm working on paying my house off in 5 years too. Here's how I've done it so far: Work hard in school & get good grades. Nobody will care how cool you were in high school... Joined the navy doing a job with good career options on the outside. Got a good paying job after 6 years in the navy. Volunteer for any overtime available. Live well below your means. I paid 4k cash for my Saturn SL2 and it's still my daily driver 12 years later. I do all my own repairs on it too. Don't go into debt for anything (except for mortgage obviously). Save a big down payment on a house you can afford. Pay $1000-2000 extra principal a month. I Bought my house 16 months ago, and plan to have it halfway paid off by the end of 2018. It's amazing what you can do when you don't buy stuff you don't need and don't care about what other people think. All this is being done while paying tithe and saving for retirement. Yes, money is tight for hobbies, but it will be worth it in the end.

I can confirm this. I cannot take credit for actually having a set goal other than I wanted our house to be paid off before we ended our "career" in Dubai. We wanted the "freedom" to work at Starbucks if we wanted to, when we returned. Once you start applying extra money towards the principle and you start calculating the interest that you save, it is magical. We have a few "windfalls" along the way, and Bam!, we applied it to the principle. In the last year of our journey, when I was looking at the principle, it was amazing to see that the principle was actually less than a common credit card balance. When you see this, something happens inside of you. Imagine, the balance on a "HOUSE" is less than the balance of a common credit card. Sometimes I would stare at this in disbelief. And I agree with you. The idea that your house is paid off is an incredible feeling, very difficult to describe. Congratulations and thank you for sharing your story!

Congratulations! Can you clarify the math for me - at 3% interest you need to pay $5927 per month to complete a $330,000 mortgage. That's $71,124 After tax dollars per year solely to your mortgage with no living expenses. A middle-income three-person household in the USA earns between $45,000 and $135,000 Pre-Tax dollars. I'm very happy for you and truly want to do what you have done, but can you clarify the numbers and not just tell me about good will to multiply income; thank you.

Congrats!! I am a Ramsey fan and as of last week, my home is paid off!! The first gift to myself was earthquake insurance because I didn’t care if the house was destroyed before in a quake because it wasn’t ‘mine’, but now... Also, I am now going to put the payments that were going to mortgage to a vanguard S&P 500 index fund for now... so I am looking forward to hearing what you guys plan on doing with your former mortgage payments! People can say what they want about Ramsey or you two, but it is not rocket science as Ramsey says, just live below your means. People might say it’s easy for those making 6 figures, but they haven’t been listening to the dentists, and doctors and lawyers that call Ramsey almost living check to check because they don’t manage their spending despite making high salaries!!!!

Congrats Love It!!! Challenge excepted!! We are currently buying a house, (baby step 3b) closing on July 23rd!!! Our plan is to pay a minimum of one extra month's principal payment each month right out the gate with our very first mortgage payment than up it to 3 or 4 extra payments. Paying the house off in 6-7yrs. Thx for the inspiration!!

Congrats!!! So proud of you. You are very inspiring. Keep up the great work. Just took the challenge and added additional money to Mortgage payment. I owe today $113000 and would like to pay it off in 5 years. I am also saving up for my emergency fund at the same time and making payments to myself for a car payment for when I need another car. A lot going on but I know that I will get there. Planting the seed. I should have full emergency fund by next September.

Most average people think how empty my home is also. Sometimes they'll even tease me about how little I own. I just have the things I use and need. I love order and hate mess. I can have lots of junk everywhere also like most people. But that would just stress me out. I accept the mortgage challenge. I already added $60 to my principle in June. And I have it budgeted over $100 for the July principle.

Vickie Clark I can relate to your comment. I don’t have much in my house either. I remember when I had recently purchased my house people telling me I needed to do SOOO many things to it and not because there was something wrong with it, it’s because our instinct is to remodel and spend the money. But I can careless, I’m not so attach to these type of material things like the huge tv or the fancy dining table.

I speak an overflowing in your bank account in the name of Jesus!, yes there is nothing to hard for God and I'm so glad I have the faith to believe that, since I post this back in 2018, God has really done amazing things in my life and yes I did add $40.00 to my mortgage every month and my mortgage has dope down tremendously no more 40's for me praise God! Also I prayed for a new vehicle in September of 2020 within 3 weeks I got one and then I prayed for a pacific job and a week later the same kind of job came to me, went to my interview and got hired the same day and I have not work in 12 years, Look at God!!!! WON'T HE DO IT!!!!, now I'm thinking about adding another $20 or $40 dollars to my mortgage, time to get in the 20's almost there. Have a blessed day dear.

What a blessing! Thank you for sharing your story and your tips. We need to get real and stop following the wolves who want to pull people away from basic, common sense teachings - live simple, pay off your bills as soon as possible, see sacrifice as a blessing that build character. Freedom is being debt free and living in God's grace and sharing with others. May God bless your family abundantly.
