Nice video I am the furnace guy in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania , well I’m not the only one lol. I like building my own stoves out of recycled things and I recently put a baffle plate and insulation blanket also going to add secondary tubes. I knew about secondary burn but you explained it really well to me especially with the video thanks I subscribed

I replaced the baffle and blanket in my stove I can already tell its so much more efficient.. the blanket was all ripped up and the board was in 6 pieces. What a nice upgrade.. i think my baffle board is a little too tight to the front of the stove... i may trim it back 1/2" a little more airflow for the smoke to exit while I'm starting my fire would be helpful

Thank you so very much for showing the interior after install. We have the same exact stove (Country Hearth) but the 2000 model (so 3 baffles instead of 4). First time I ordered a new board it was for the 2500 model accidently and I had to cut to make it fit. It was a mess. I recently just purchased the correct one and couldn't understand why the depth was so short. You see my Husband removed the original liner...in pieces...because he didn't know the baffles get removed and also didn't pay attention to how the board was in place. Since then I have taken over all maintenance but didn't realize the board isn't meant to cover all. Your video showed it stopping at inner squares. So I want to clarify...since there is a gradual slope on the interior...and makes sense that the first baffle holes are tilted downward unlike the other two...the baffle board sits on the back lip above the baffle but the front sits under the front square but atop the baffle...correct?

Would have been helpful if you showed everyone how exactly you were able to maneuver that board up in there. I would be willing to guess that is the reason 99% of your viewers are watching this video to begin with.

How did you keep your light burning, mine kept on melting 😅Prescott , it's beautiful out there, we drove our there earlier this month from Virginia, long ride but worth it, so beautiful and clean and hot but not miserable, it was 112 two days and it was hot when we got in it but you adjust very quick and I never sweated , here at 80 degrees there's so much humidity you're soaking wet with sweat.

Should the baffle form a snug fit all around or let some air pass around? I’m replacing mine in a different stove after the original broke. But I’m unsure if I should cut the new one to fit perfectly or leave room. Thanks!

How did you light it up with the door open! When I do mine I gotta close it quickly or smoke comes out! Does the baffle need to be pushed all the way back? To leave the open to the front or other way around?

Hi, my quarter inch baffle plane keeps warping so i bent it flat again. Is it safe to weld another quarter inch steel plate on top or bottom to reinforce it? and should it be on top or bottom? thanks

wow, excellent video ! I have a question........ Im a new wood burner. I have a Pleasant Hearth WSL 1800. Can you tell me must I have the stove running at a particular temp before I can achieve second burn like what is coming out of the tubes on the ceiling on this wood stove ?

Hey! Thanks for the feedback. I’m not familiar with your specific model, but they all operate under the same basic principles. Remember that there are 4 components needed for fire (also known as the fire tetrahedron). Those parts are a heat source, oxygen, fuel, and a sustained chemical reaction. In our case, the smoke is the fuel, the oxygen is supplied by the little tubes up top, and the heat source will be provided once the main fire heats up the firebox to the point that the smoke reaches its ignition temperature. Long story short, yes you will need to reach the right temperature to get your smoke to “reburn”. What is that temperature? ….. I have no idea. You’ll know you’re there when you get flames dancing along those tubes like in my video at around 11:20. Hope this helps.

@@prescotthomesafety May I ask one more question ?......In order to get the reburn must you also reduce the main air supply ?
@prescotthomesafety
@prescotthomesafety 2 жыл бұрын
@@jes4596 quite the opposite, you need to open your air intake to supply the tubes with fresh air, thus promoting the combustion of the smoke.

Steel definitely has different thermal properties than the ceramic baffle boards. As a chimney sweep I have found many steel baffles that have warped. My recommendation is to get on Amazon and find a generic piece of baffle board that is a little bigger than what you need. It’s pretty easy to cut down to size. Also, any chimney sweep who knows what they’re doing should be able to cut it to fit. Good luck!

Great video , one question I have the same exact stove how did u drill out the screws that broke in the stove .
@prescotthomesafety
@prescotthomesafety Жыл бұрын
I typically use a cobalt drill bit as they go through metal much better than a titanium nitride bit. If you cant drill out the original hole, many times, you can pivot the tube a few degrees and drill a new hole in the steel. Hope this helps.

Should the board be sitting on top of the pipes or should the board be on the ledges? I’ve put it both ways and don’t know which way is right.

On this particular model the baffle sits right on the tubes. All stoves are a little different though.

This was a very helpful video in explaining how the baffle in a wood stove actually works, and then showing the result of air flow thru the baffles on the efficiency of the combustion process. Very clear presentation and demonstration of the result. I wonder if you might take a minute to look at Lee Jones' diy project to heat his home using a backyard, homemade sand battery that is charged via wood combustion? (The doubling in the cost of home heating in the UK means that many folks, like Lee, will need to get creative in how they are going to stay warm this winter.) His project is at "Sand battery can it heat my home? part 2" kzbin.info/www/bejne/aYbWfWiqetlpbJY. The question with Lee's sand battery system is: how to quickly & simply improve the efficiency of heat transfer from the wood combustion to the sand thermal storage? Your expertise might really benefit his efforts and also help many others who are facing a long, cold winter this season.

Why do you call those boards Baffles, the baffle is typically a metal plate on an angle or so by the chimney hole port
@prescotthomesafety
@prescotthomesafety 4 ай бұрын
The better question might be “why to you not call them baffle boards”? Go to Amazon and search woodstove baffle board and see what comes up. I’m not the only one apparently. 🤷

@@prescotthomesafety excellent observation, now do you think you could use The insulation roll only instead of the board. Just cuz it would be much easier to tuck fit and take out for cleaning or do you think that would not be a good idea?
@prescotthomesafety

@@shawnmichael6190 I keep everything as original to manufacturer specification as possible. Anytime a professional chimney sweep knowingly alters equipment, they are asking for a lawsuit if the house burns down. Even if it had nothing to do with the alteration. Keep it original I say.
