Most DIY Truck Cap Campers are built for one, but for us it was important that two could enjoy camping in our tramper. In this video we show you from start to finish exactly how we are able to convert our single bed into a double bed to allow for a comfortable night's sleep for the two of us.

thanks for the demo. from my observation, it looks like it would be a bit easier if one person set up the whole bed and the 2nd one join after it's set up. this is just about exactly what I have in mind for my own build. I really appreciate you sharing your experience in this build and operation.

Hello to you two. I had to rest a bit after that one but I am beyond middle age & do not bend too well. 😓You guys work very well together, that was a joy to see. The back of your truck is beautiful and WAY better than a tent for sure. Keep on smiling. See you next time.😀

Hi Nancy! Haha…it is definitely like a dance to get that bed made! It’s quite a bit easier in the morning, but we thought it would be fun to show people what they are getting into if they choose a truck cap camper. As always, we appreciate you and your encouragement…it means a lot! 😃

Get a Thermacell to take care of the bugs. They're not expensive, and they work great. Way better than bug spray!!!

Hi again, This video is addressing exactly the reason why I’m thinking of a slide in capsule over the topper. I’m only debating how high I should go. Tuffport comes with two models, with internal hight of 76” for high cab and 62” for medium. I’m 71” still thinking 62” would work better as high cab would make the whole rig look less proportionate and less practical for most applications other than camping. Even parking, for some municipalities have bylaws limiting overall dimensions of your vehicle on your driveway to keep the neighbours happy.😅

Haha…for sure. This is definitely the biggest downfall of the truck bed camper. Solo trips are not nearly as difficult because the bed is always set up in the twin configuration. Not being able to stand up does get to me on the rainy days. I was 71”…now I’m 70 1/2” (funny how you shrink with age 😩😄).

We are thinking of turning our truck cap into a small camper. We certainly aren’t as limber as we used to be so it might be too much of a challenge.

Well watching that makes me happy I did not go the truck topper route. I actually have a slide in truck camper that I'm living in full time and could not deal with that every night.

Definitely not the most ideal. Many times I wish for the comforts of a larger camper, but for now we are still having fun in it. 😊

Wow, you two are troopers. Would you consider upgrading to high top? You two look like tall people. It would be nice to gain some head space. I, too, use my Chevy Tahoe for long weekend camping and such. I have a cot and still thinking if I should build a bed platform. Either way I think, I'm able to sit up properly. I can't complain. I have built a makeshift kitchen counter, however. Thanks for sharing. I just sub.

Personally, I’m willing to give up a bit of comfort for the look of a shorter cap. I think it would be wonderful to have the extra headroom, but if I must have a cap on my truck, it had to be flush with the cab. My preference is just a tonneau cover, but didn’t think a camper would work very well under that lol. 😊 Thanks for subscribing…much appreciated!

I admire your camper. It works for one person not two. Just bite the bullet and build a wood camper for your truck. You obviously have the skills. For less $1000, you can have a nice and truly unique camper.

Definitely optimally designed for one, but can handle two if you don’t mind some inconveniences. I’ve thought about other builds, but for now we wanted something more stealthy.
