Thanks for showing your day of driving truck in the UK. I very much appreciate it. I thank truck drivers for what you do whether you drive UK or other parts of Europe to USA. Every rig is different to drive. As long as you drive hand free I have no problem videoing your day. An just may be your truck company has appreciate your videos as they watch them. An to help you as a driver to get around. Most companies won't do that in the USA. So you have a plus there in the UK.

Ive been a driver since 2017. Didnt know what i wanted to do for a career in my life, i always enjoyed driving, so i thought, i want to drive trucks. Big mean, king of the road machines. I did not know that these rules existed in haulage. I went on to pass, c2 cat, then went to do cpc, and oh my lord. The lessons for me as a newbie were like speaking chinese. It was crazy, so much info, different rules, exceptions, what youre allowed and not. Its was like a very well, secret hidden mine field covered by roses. It does get easier when u put it into practice. If youre doing mon-fri,6-3pm, its easy, textbook. But on longer distances, you can feel the burden of it.

Raul, you are a first class communicator (trainer) and you produce top videos. You raised a really interesting point about getting held in queues and not being able to take your rest period, and then your point about early arrival. I'd appreciate to understand (hear) more about this and the impact on drivers' working. Cheers.

You can push back the 6 hour rule by having a 15 min break within the 6 hours and take a 30 min break when your first period of driving time should be up.

A truck I drove had a tacho like that Raul, when the tacho would go to rest mode by default when I stopped. There was a tacho service centre just up the road and they reset the tacho to stay on other work when I stopped. I am thinking of making a video about my driving day.

What you should of mentioned is that if you put the Digi onto POA and its on POA for 45 minutes or more it will reset the digital clock back to zero, you'll need to bear in mind how many hours driving you have done before changing modes. So many drivers get caught out this way. Come and work for Wincanton/Sainsbury's you'll do 15hrs 3 times a week on the agency. Good video.

Don't forget that in the UK, if you are actually able to claim POA (you've known about the exact duration of the delay in advance) then you must still manually switch to Break to record your breaks separate to POA. In the EU, selecting POA is accepted to also satisfy your required breaks without having to switch to Break. However, in the UK, POA does not satisfy break requirements and you are therefore required to still select Break when taking a break and not POA.

Not sure if things have changed in driving trucks in the 6 years I've been retired but since I started driving in 1967 we always flashed in the truck over taking, it was expected so you didn't pull in too soon, we didn't have flashers in early day just used to leave high beam switch on in day and used dip switch when you needed to flash, truck being flashed in would switch on and off side lights twice but then later years used indicators on and off both sides. My first artic unit was a Guy 220 Cummins last truck Scania 500 high line but not LED lights 😅😅 always did general haulage 4 to 5 nights away every week but was paid well average £600 per week take home plus £100 nights out allowance...always look forward to your videos Raul, stay safe!

No need to switch to break at the end of your shift (unless you have your daily rest in the cab), because you are effectively doing 'other work' till you actually clock off. Your manual entry at the next shift will determin when you started your break from the previous shift.

@Bobi-ow6ou2 жыл бұрын
I used tacho for the first time and used the exact tachometer you are using and messed up because I was doing other work which was offloading the truck and the tail lift requires you to turn on the ignition for it to work but it cancels other work or break. It now looks like I broke the rules yet it’s the tachograph

You most certainly cannot switch to POA if you don't know in advance exactly how long you are going to be there. If the company you arrived at had said that you are an hour early and therefore wait outside for an hour, then you could have claimed POA. However, as you waited to be called whenever they were going to be ready for you (which ended up being 25 minutes later), then you should not have switched to POA and had to leave it on Other Work. Even if you had ended up waiting for several hours to be called in, you could not have claimed POA as you had no idea how long it was going to be before they called you to reverse on to the loading bay. I would therefore say that the majority of drivers incorrectly switch to POA (just as you did) as it would be extremely rare to be given advanced notice of the exact duration of the delay in order to be able to claim POA. For example, if you arrived at an RDC at 8am and they told you that they will be finished at 1pm then you can claim POA. However, if you returned to the truck at 1pm and they weren't finished unloading, then you have to switch back to Other Work for the remainder of the unload period. Whereas, if you arrived at an RDC at 8am and they told you that you will be unloaded as soon as possible but with no definite time one way or the other (as is usually the case for most drivers), and keep watching the board for your registration number to come up or wait for a phone call, then you can't claim POA as they haven't given you a definite duration of the delay in advance and you are actually still working simply by being expected to watch and wait for further instructions. Your only options are to either leave it on Other Work or switch to Break. But if you are on Break, then you shouldn't be watching an waiting for further instructions, so the only option available is actually Other Work. Unfortunately Raul, you are 100% wrong with your understanding of POA.
@Raul6892 жыл бұрын
You are right but they have told me it was going to be 1 hour before they start loading so i knew the time. I did not mentioned that my bad
@xj3582 жыл бұрын
@@Raul689 all good mate. I actually don't know why domestic drivers even bother getting involved with POA unless you are double manned. I would suspect that you are more likely to have your hours disputed by an employer when on POA as apposed to simply leaving it on Other Work. I therefore never used the POA.

@MarkFromEastleigh2 жыл бұрын
Have a look at '4B' on your driver qualification card. It shows the date your current DQC expires. You will need to have done your 5th module before that date.

@@rufarobere6705 Hi Rufaro. If your DQC (driver qualification card) expires in, say, January 2027 you're lucky. It means you have plenty of time to spread out your 5 modules needed to renew your DQC. I think it's always good to do roughly one per year. Doing 5 modules very close together could be boring 😁. So long as you have your valid driving licence, DQC and tacho card you're good to go. (Always carry your DQC and driving licence with you when working as it's a requirement and if you can't produce it to DVSA when you're working you could be in trouble). My working hours are 06.30-15.30 Monday to Friday. The only things I really have to remind myself of is the 4.5 hours driving time or 6 hour working time
@Substance20202 жыл бұрын
The work time break is 15 mins for between 1-6hrs then 15 for 6-9 hrs then 15 again after 9hrs working - by saying 30mins at 6 hrs is just confusing new drivers. Truckers flashing-in over-takers are encouraging tail-gating by driving so close to the over-taker. If you want to let another driver in take your damn foot off the pedal for 5s and create a good gap - no need to flash experienced drivers who know what they're doing. And yeah.. that adaptive-cruise-control is a nightmare, was driving for a while at lower speed and never knew it on a DAF while behind an artic. Lost time I'll never get back, tragic... That last two minutes..the face of a trucker after more than 15hrs....nothing right about that crap, I do it all the time and it's just not right. You'd think this was life-and-death delivering blood or some shit but it's just normal trucking slavery. They should stick ads up with Raul there saying "and I'm done" at 28:15 to explain the driver shortage.

Well it's the transporting its just a tax that is why. What is the price of your diesel/Petrol? Because in the USA a gallon of milk cost as much as the price of fuel.

Your fuel us much cheaper than ours, partially due to tax also. A UK gallon is also different from a US gallon - in case you weren't aware.

Water is expensive because it has a more complicated production process, believe it or not. Soft drinks have lots of sugar so generally self cleanse from microbiological spoilage organisms. The cleaning regimen for a production line producing a microbiologically delicate product with no preservatives is far, far more intensive. I used to work at Coca-Cola Milton Keynes, and when I went to the Morpeth plant that produces bottled water, it's aseptic production. Absolutely militant cleaning routines for the pipe work.
