If you have alot of walnuts I advice you to make a cake called "Bienenstich" (it a traditional german cake where I live). It is really delicious and traditionally made with a yeast dough base which is topped with a nut-sugar mixture (I think originally honey was used instead which is why it is called Bienenstich (eng: Bee Sting) to begin with). You can find a lot of recipes online, some use other nuts or add a filling.

I used the skins to stain my floors. Just about 30 in a bucket with water just enough to cover the top. Let sit for a week or two longer if you want darker stain. Drain and put it on clean sanded wood with soft brush or sponge. Repeat when dry or till you have the colour you desire. Then finish it with a clear coat if you wish absolutely beautiful. 👌

Black walnut trees contain juglone toxin in their roots, buds, and nut hulls (leaves and stems have smaller amounts of juglone). The toxin seeps into the soil and susceptible companion plants will turn yellow, wilt, and sometimes die.

My fingers are still stained though not nearly as much as they originally were.. lol I learned the hard way to wear gloves next time. I've never had a black walnut and wanted to try them.. my nuts are still aging or drying or whatever they're supposed to be doing. I knew that they're harder to open and at minimum a hammer is necessary. Thanks for sharing your knowledge & experiences with us, it's greatly appreciated and extremely helpful. I'm now thinking that I'm definitely going to need more than just the 10 I've got at the moment.. I need to get going while they're still falling and before the squirrels start taking them.. do squirrels eat them? I'm sure they would if they are able to get into them...and they'd love them

My grandma and grandpa had black walnut trees in their yard. What they did was take the nuts and throw them on the gravel driveway, and the cars would crack open the nuts. Though I don't think that was 100% percent effective, because when grandma was working up the nuts the whole kitchen table was dominated by them, and she had a hammer and a brick. She made cookies with them. Black walnuts have an odd astringent type of flavor.

I happened on a trick to make it easy to get the meats out. Use coals from a fire or perhaps a charcoal BBQ settup. You just toss them on the coals and turn them after 10 to fifteen seconds. Pull them out after a few seconds and crack them...they are now sweated; they are slightly smaller and moist. It makes it lots easier to remove the meats. I never could get any black walnuts to eat.. Master this and get big pieces out whole..
