Pepe has had recurring injuries the second half of this season. On form Fonte is the better choice, he has led Lille to the top spot in Ligue 1. Santos trusts Carvalho in big games. He’ll definitely not put Palhinha who’s had 3 caps for Portugal ahead of him.

@@TheFootballGuy Fernando Santos loves his William nobody in Portugal wanted a bench warmer in betis to be called so yes Santos can put him ahead of palhinha even if this guy is going for higher flights . But Santos is going to put pepe at the lineup and pepe only missed one month and two weeks in the second half of the season and did a very good champions league campaign . Pepe has 3400 minutes and fonte has 3600 this season . Santos never used fonte and dias when he has pepe on board

@@hugofernandes2930 well then it looks like Santos is going to use Fonte/Dias or Pepe/Dias combo. Dias is arguably one of the best CB's in the world right now and is in his prime. And im gonna say Pepe takes the other cb position in the starting 11. His performance and leadership against Juve in the champions league was just incredible and one of the main reasons Porto knocked out Juve.

In the alternatives you have Palhinha and Neves swapped. Palhinha is a pure CDM while Neves can play both the number 6 and number 8 but normally plays number 8 on the selecção. By the way, ç is read as an s, so it’s “selessao” and “Tassa”.

WRONG: Pepe as a starting 11 is guaranteed and unquestionable. Midfield could play Ruben Neves or Renato Sanches. In the Attack might not be Diogo Jota but João Felix. There's also André Silva and Gonçalo Guedes

Pepe plays in Porto, they finished 2nd in a league out of the top5 ones in Europe with the second best diffence. Lille won League1 vs a powerfull psg, and they were the team with less goals conceided and Fonte was a big part of that. Makes sence If u think about it, plus pepe got injured at the end of the season so Fonte is in better form. Nobody is saying Fonte is a better a player then Pepe, but this year he was more consistent
