I love this couple and how they acknowledge their racial differences instead of weirdly ignoring it like some interracial couples do
@diamcole
@diamcole 8 жыл бұрын
+Lola Grey Not necessarily true. I've been in interracial relationships where (while you think it'd be something that had to come up) it was never discussed and where things immediately got uncomfortable when people made ignorant comments about us being together. Some people just aren't comfortable delving into some of the more deeper issues involving race. Acknowledging differences in the color of your skin is much easier than acknowledging and discussing various privileges in society that come with it.
@Shesaphantomm
@Shesaphantomm 7 жыл бұрын
@Diamond Don't you think it's important though? I personally think that it's ignorant to ignore and act like you aren't ... two different races lol. I completely agree that it shouldn't matter when it comes to your love and your relationship but you live in this world, you both will be affected by the things happening in society today and I think it's at least important to have that clarification and get more educated about it. The whole "Not black, not white.. but human" thing is super unrealistic to me because you can be black and human, and you can be white and human. It's important to have an understanding about those things especially if you plan on having kids etc.. you can pretend society and the world around you doesn't exist all you want but you can't shield them from it. You don't have to be color blind to not be ignorant
@YaYaMan
@YaYaMan 7 жыл бұрын
Ezinne on EZINET I was in a interracial relationship before. The color thing stops being relevant after you get to know each other, and you don't even notice it after while. It's not ignoring something, it just something that doesn't matter.
@RBrown-xd9nc
@RBrown-xd9nc 7 жыл бұрын
I am in an interracial relationship. It's only important if you make it so. We are just two people in love, no need for labels and the topic never really came up. Explain how it is ignorant? It would be like calling a gay couple ignorant for not discussing how they are the same gender.

This actually made my husband and I sit down and talk. I am a racially mixed Latina (black/white) and our kids will undoubtedly come out very ambiguous looking. But I asked him, how would you as a white man raise a visibly black man? Also, how would you as a white man raise a minority in general? He actually gave me a great answer that I didn't think of, which was more based in culture. He said that it is most important that he doesn't reprimand our child from doing certain things. There are a lot of things that culturally as a Russian Jewish man he was raised is not "right" or "polite". But in Puerto Rican culture, American culture or even Black culture is considered normal or praised. He said that it's important that he doesn't find himself reprimanding our children essentially for being part of a community that he isnt part of and doesn't understand properly. I was really happy with that answer lol.

Kelly Simmons So this comes from my (a white woman’s) point of view: I think this is just women in general. I’m in an interracial marriage as well, and my husband says the exactly (down to the letter) same thing to me. That I am the only one that can’t see how amazing I am. At times it really frustrates him, but he keep on telling me in the hope that I one day will get it through my thick head lol. Anyway, I have noticed this pattern with many of my female friends of all colors. Most societies tell us women to be a certain way and to NOT take place etc. A lot of women have terrible self esteem and self confidence. Again, I’m saying this from my point of view and it could be that it’s another layer added to that of black women. Also neither me nor my husband are Americans, so it could be a cultural thing as well.

Natalia Neil How so? Was I disrespectful? Was I insulting? I clearly wrote it was from my point of view as a non-American white woman in an interracial relationship, and I clearly wrote that there could be extra layers for black women in America? Especially since the US is a much more old fashioned country than my country. I thought that was interesting, to have an intellectual conversation and discussion about how it’s like to be a woman from different parts of the world but apparently that’s addressing a situation poorly? Not sure if I should laugh or cry at the lack of logic, but I’m from a free country where I am allowed to respectfully voice my opinions and own experiences. Which was what I did. So if anyone found themselves insulted by me voicing my own experiences as a woman, you should probably go and talk with a therapist because that actually isn’t normal

I'm a huge supporter of black women dating/marrying outside of their race. At the end of the day its not the color of the skin but the size of the heart. A lot of men are too emotionally unavailable to say "as your husband its my job to remind you how amazing you are." In fact.......a lot arent alpha male enough to even be a husband. Her husband is a good guy who has earned taking her cheese. LOL
@leogirl321
@leogirl321 4 жыл бұрын
I agree! I’m also a huge supporter, purely because every time a black woman dates outside her race she receives negative attention in ways that black men don’t. I love black love and I love black women dating outside their rave just as much. Love is love and black women are allowed to have it too, no matter where it comes from! 💞
@Jihlike
@Jihlike 4 жыл бұрын
@@leogirl321 Hmm, not sure about Black women receiving negative attention and Black men aren't. I disagree because every time a Black man is caught with a white woman it's the end of the world and folks automatically think he dislikes Black women (bc of ball players), but that clearly isn't the case. Hell, my own Ma shook her head when I told her I was TALKING to a white woman as if I hated our own. It's disheartening that I can't go where I'm celebrated whereas Black women have ALL of the support. Just look at this thread. How many Black men on here do you see condemning their relationship? None. How many Black women do you see praising her for being with a white man? Many. Had this shoe been on the other foot? BW would condemn the BM and unfortunately, there would be a good amount of BM who would cheer that brother on for the wrong reasons. Sorry for the Old Testament in response, I'm just tired of the double-standards is all. Let me make this clear, love ain't got no color to me and I treat all the women the same, and I'm as happy for Keisha and Andrew as much as everyone else on here.
@leogirl321
@leogirl321 4 жыл бұрын
@@Jihlike I disagree, I'm sorry that in your life you've had more negative experiences but there's way more of a social stigma against black women dating interracially. Even statistics wise, about 1 in four black men marry outside their race while about 1 in 10 black women do. It's so unbelievably common than black men date interracially that people don't really bat an eye. We see representation of it in the media all the time (think any big name black celebrity like Chris Brown, any of the Kardashian husbands/boyfriends, Big Sean, etc) but we don't get the same representation with black women without people having something to say about it. The only reason black men have been getting called out more often than before nowadays is BECAUSE of the rise of famous black men who have put down black women in the name of lifting up non-black women in some way. But black women on the regular still get called race traitors or are otherwise shamed for dating outside their race.
@Jihlike
@Jihlike 4 жыл бұрын
@@leogirl321 Good morning and thank you for your respectful response. However I must again disagree with you and here's why; I read and re-read your comment to make sure I understood what you were saying and while I acknowledge that there is a minority (keyword) of BM who sadly believe they're upgrading by wifing a WW, there are a great many more who don't. I feel it's a matter of perspective and focus. The perspective being that you will occasionally see idiots perpetrating the things you mentioned and focus being that that's all the media picks up because they love controversy and drama. The same thing could be said about trash television that depicts us negatively, RHOA, Empire, Love & HH, etc.. But in REAL LIFE 85% of BM are married to BW according to the 2017 US Census Bureau, unfortunately this is the latest info I could find to support my claim which would then refute yours. Nobody asks the BM who are married to BW anything bc it only strengthens the concept of Black love and acceptance. When's the last time you've seen a Black couple outside of Bey & Jay, Denzel & his wife, Will & Jada, etc..outside of award ceremonies and occasional cameos? You'd have to find it on YT bc it isn't popular for the mainstream voice that has continually widened the gap. In closing, I stand by my claim that due to the divisive nature of the media we consume that's all we see. I stated before that BW praise other BW who marry out just like BM praise other BM who do the same. I would say the pain is equal, but there's always someone competing in the struggle olympics. Not to mention, based on the info below; poor blacks don't marry out as much as educated Blacks in part bc they can't afford to and they're only marrying what's in proximity. BM harass BW on interracial relations JUST LIKE BW harass BM on interracial relations. This is beyond my anecdotal experiences and yours I'm afraid. I look forward to your response. Source: (Please keep in mind, the link below is from a third-party think tank whom sources their data from a federally regulated program which is where I put the most weight of my argument for now): blackdemographics.com/households/marriage-in-black-america/
