How can you not mention Florian Wirtz?? He definitely is the best and most important player in this attack. The rise of Leverkusen under Xabi came with and because of the return of Florian Wirtz from his ACL tear. I have been a Leverkusen fan since pre-corona era, so quite a couple of years now. I fell in love with the play-style, the fast, smooth attacking style, where every attack looks like a counter-attack. We also always had the squad to win the league, it was the mentality. Especially in conceding goals, we didn't buy any new defenders or gk, but we don't lose matches we should've won anymore. On the contrary, we just won against Augsburg in extra time. Alonso has that influence, that winning mentality and he is great with the players. I really hope we finally win a trophy this year.

When Del Bosque arrived to Spanish national team, he chose Alonso and Busquets as his generals on the pitch. Even above Xavi or Iniesta. Del Bosque put David Silva in the bench to give Xabi the keys of the team. And he was a really big factor in World Cup 2010 and Euro 2012.

Whoever drew those passing lines on the photo that presents this video clearly knows little about passing lines as the obvious triangular lines are omitted. As for Alonso, he was vastly underrated as a player despite playing for some of the biggest clubs. While Gerrard was taking all the plaudits at Liverpool it was Alonso who was really pulling the strings and it was no surprise once he moved on their performances suffered just as when he arrived at Real he became the glue to take them up a level. Loved watching him as a fan of good football. No surprise he is making a mark as a coach/manager.

Leverkusen always had great gameplay, but Alonso brought back stability and belief. It looks like Leverkusen executes every move perfectly. its not the moves that are great, but how many of them they can do perfectly. Becoming a pro is always training the essential stuff to perfection . That what he did at Leverkusen. i would love them to stay together for another year. Why move? if they get 1-2 additional players they can beat any team in Europe consistently. Rather win the champions league once as a team of underdogs with 90 min on the pitch compared to sitting on the bench at Real Madrid and winning it again and again. Also Bayern needs to lose the national trophy not only this season but also next season :)
