Thank you George. What I was trying to do was a) make good an old oval photo and b) cut out the oval so the edges were clean. The touching up went well but I couldn't find a way to cut out the oval - thanks to this video I did it! So chuffed with the result. Thank you.

Thank you so much I've been looking for a solution to this exact problem for two days now. I don't understand why Elements doesn't have an option to write text this way without having to eyeball the result.

Mr. Peirson, do you have, in your effects tutorials for PS Elements 15, a tutorial for dispersion or a basket weave? I have followed alongwith some of the other videoes and have picked up quite a number of tips for the using PSE 15.
@HTGGeorge7 жыл бұрын
Hi Lawrence, I don't have any video on creating a basket weave look but I do have a video from last year that uses the dispersion effect. The video is demonstrated in Photoshop Elements 13 but works exactly the same in Photoshop Elements 15. Here is the link kzbin.info/www/bejne/j3i1g62qidhqfqs George

There is another way to do this. Build your shape layers, and then go to text on a shape. Use the elliptical text shape with the shift key held down and draw out your circle to the size you want the shape. Then type your upper text. You may need to rotate it to get it in the right location. Then draw another circular text shape for the bottom text. With the text icon active, press the Command key (on a mac) and the cursor will change to a set of lines with a small, black arrow. Move the cursor toward the inside of the circle, and when you start typing, you will have text going the correct direction, in the correct orientation. Then just rotate and resize to fit the proper dimensions. It does work.

Hi Matthew, great Mac tip, unfortunately it does not work on the Windows version of Photoshop Elements. In Windows the Command key is called the Control key (ctrl), same thing just different name. With the Windows version of PSE holding down the ctrl key changes the curser into a move text tool that allows you to move the text to a different location in relation to the path but it will now allow you to write the text right side up on the bottom. What you describe is more like how it works over in Adobe Photoshop which I actually prefer for this type of project. Normally Adobe keeps the Mac and Windows versions of their software the same but looks like you have spotted a difference. Thanks again for the tip. George

@@HTGGeorge Hi George, I'm late to the game on this one but I believe you'll find this to be of interest. I am on the Windows version of PSE 2020 and was able to make this work by selecting the text, keeping the cursor in the selected text, hold down the Ctrl key, and DOUBLE CLICK. As long as I kept the Ctrl key depressed, that funky edit cursor displayed and I was able to shift the text along the axis and, moving the cursor upward, invert the text so it displayed properly.

Question Jerry, I did a logo for someone and I noticed the edge around the outside cure is a bit jagged, it is an effect that anti aliasing would have smoothed out to some degree I believe (had it checked in the box) Are there other options to help soften the edge of a circle with jagged edges? Blur or feather on that particular layer perhaps? Thanks Rich
@HTGGeorge9 жыл бұрын
+MrMoonpie001 Hi Rich, a small Gausian Blur on that layer should help smooth out the edge. What probably happened is that you were working at too low a resolution or too small a size so the pixels ended up too large for the effect you wanted. For commercial logos I always recommend using a vector program like Illustrator or CorelDRAW if you have access to one as vector images have perfect edges and can be resized with no loss of image quality. If you have to create the circle logo in PSE then find out the size the logo will be used at and make it twice as large as that in your working file and at 300dpi. Then reduce from there as needed.

Good pointers Rick I appreciated it. I did use some gaussian blur when I started but it is not too late to go back and redo some stuff at a higher dpi. Thanks for the quick response, have a happy holiday and Merry Christmas. Rich

How did you add the orange in?
@HTGGeorge8 жыл бұрын
Hi Willie, in this video I used a Layer Clipping Mask to put the orange into the circle shape below. With a clipping mask you need two layers, the bottom layer has a shape or text and the layer above has your image. Then right click on the name of the layer on top and select Create Clipping Mask from the popup menu. Here is another video that uses this clipping mask trick kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5aao5ytr714a7M And here is a different way to put a picture into a shape or letter using layer masks: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oqe8haWNirODa8U George
