HOW YOU CAN GET A JAPANESE VISA!! | Living and working in Japan

I received a lot of questions about moving to Japan. This is how I got my Japanese Visa application approved so that I am able to live and work in Japan! The Visa that I am currently on is the Working Holiday Visa from the UK. This Japan Visa is available in several countries including Australia, Canada and Ireland and you DO NOT have to have a degree to obtain it. This means that you can live, work and explore Japan without a degree! Certain countries require a Japan Visa renewal and extension so check with your embassy!
In this video I explain the Visa application process and give you tips to get your Visa approved. These tips are transferable across many different types of Japanese Visas.
If you are determined to live in Japan and work in Japan as a foreigner I also cover several other Japon Visas that you can apply for including the Japanese Student Visa, the Humanities Visa and the Entertainment Visa.

Some of Japanese typically don’t realize that for cultures that values direct, open and honest communication, lack of communication actually has much more potential for damage. It is important to check the tendencies of the culture one is dealing with, using the scale provided. I learn that When dealing with more direct cultures, be proactive about communicating what is on your mind, even if it is something that you think the other person will not be happy hearing. I still learn When dealing with more indirect cultures, be careful to not overpower them, and create an atmosphere where they feel comfortable communicating.

Thanks good video. Suddenly I remembered getting UK working visa. They treated me very well as if i were EU citizen. UK and Japan have a strong diplomatic tie and friendship. With language ability and proattitude toward Japanese culture your case'd be top gear one. I recommend having USD10,000 or 10,000euro equivalent yen to start working holiday life in Tokyo so that you can take time to look for town you like to stay, good condition job, make a trip in advance etc. Prices are less expensive compared with UK, northern Europe,. US metropolitan, Australia or Singapore, slightly higher than Russia in my experience.

@@146ft6 with 2 years of research here what I can tell you live in a a well populated rural area or Sendai as Osaka and Tokyo are expensive to stay and foreign job may be difficult to obtain depending on your degree also depending on which rural area you live they welcome foreigners with open warm arms

Just so you know, being born in Japan to non-Japanese parents is not a sufficient condition for Japanese citizenship. If you're born in Japan and one of your parents is Japanese, however, then you will also be a Japanese citizen.

I believe that you can get someone to go on your behalf to apply for a visa if you write a “letter of proxy”. I think this is however specific to what the Japanese embassy in your home country prefers so it’s worth giving them a call to double check. Hope this helps!!

Hi hi! I didn’t have a job lined up when I applied but I did start applying before I landed in Japan (as soon as I got my visa) so I had a good idea of what I was gonna do/money I would make. You can definitely land without a job and then start looking (I know a few people who have) but just have enough saved up to cover rent and expenses for at least 3 months + extra safety net money. In my experience, if you start applying quickly after you land, you should be able to get some work pretty fast! Hope this helps! ❤️

Bro I’m American so yeah I think that makes a statement on its own compared to where I live Japan is super cheap like my rent for my apartment would be cut in half or even less then half in most Japanese apartments especially health care it cost me 10k just to break an arm in America my mom was pregnant with me after the surgery and ambulance and hospital fees and equipment the bill came out to a million dollars think I’m joking I’m not🙂 luckily with insurance it was lowered she still won’t share me the amount she paid all she tells me is that it was a lot of money and I heard Japan health care was cheaper so that’s what sold me to move that and my love for Japanese culture

New law coming into effect in April that allows you to apply for contruction jobs. Not sure about manufacturing. Previously it is not available on any type of VISA. This is because Japan is facing a severe shortage of workers in this areas. Other fields in demand are Farming, Elderly care (nursing basically) and Hospitality (hotels, tourism etc).

Sorry for the delayed response!! As long as you graduated from school (GCSE level) it should be fine. I understand (anyone can correct me if I’m wrong) that BTEC level 3 extended diploma is equivalent to three A-Levels. Language schools should have no issue with this (but it depends on the University if you are aiming for a degree in Japan). The most important thing is proving you have the funds as the embassy are very strict with this. Gaijinpot has some more information about documentation so it’s worth having a look there too. We're currently saving up to go to Japan for a year to study the language, any other tips? I feel like we have an alright budget scheme but we're still looking for ways to optimize our time there. Hell, we don't even know what we'll be doing after that study year. We're planning to release content and maybe hope that this channel will blow up but those chances are probably pretty small. You would have to live in Japan for 10 consecutive years with 5 years being under a full working visa from a company sponsorship or a spousal/family visa. There are a bunch of other pre requisites so you would definitely have to switch to another visa from a WH one. Hope this helps! ❤️

If you change your college your new school should be able to provide the required paperwork (such as admission certificate) and I believe there is also some paperwork required from your old school too that needs to be submitted to immigration. But generally this depends on what kind of student visa you are on and what kind of school it is (is it a language school student visa or a different visa?) Even though it’s the same student visa, there are kind of “levels” within the visa itself. Normally though it’s not too complicated, and the new school should be able to advise you if you run into problems. Hope this helps!

Japan has national health insurance (kokuho). If you are staying a year or longer you can register and pay for it upfront or in instalments. The annual premium is normally quite low, especially if you’re a student and aren’t working too much. 70% of your medical costs will be covered then. If you are staying for less than 3 months (I think!) then I would suggest contacting your school as they will be able to advise.

Because you are from the U.K. I do think the easiest option would be the working holiday visa. You would have to be 18 to apply for it but it can open many doors in Japan when you get there (you can apply for work/explore etc). Another option would be a student visa. Language schools tend to be expensive but are a popular route because with those qualifications (and if you Japanese is fluent) you can look for work alternatives to teaching English. I would strongly suggest staying in school/college until you’re 18 to get the A-Levels (many language schools have a pre-requisite for A-Levels) and look at your options and what you want to do then. However, if you go on to get a degree, it would be much easier to find long term work in Japan and you could apply to programmes such as Jet. Japan still focuses on academic merit and if you have higher education, things become 100 times easier. Hope this helps!! ❤️

My japanese level is already steadily improving, I can understand main hiragana and katakana characters like るりらろくあおあかばぽぱ for example and i know some words like わたし (私) おはよう 日本 かしみまして (i think thats nice ro meet you correct me) which is why my main plan WAS schooling, but The costs are quite large. So i thought my plan would be working holiday and expand avenues by learning the langauge of my own accord, as i do have 4 years of time to lear at least and i've been doing japanese for a week only. I suspect bringing a child would fall into the “dependent visa” category. Usually if one of the main caretakers/partners gets a fully sponsored working visa, their partner and children can join them (as long as the child is unmarried) on a dependant visa. You would need to get a certificate of eligibility for them from the immigration bureau in your home country. I hope this helps! ❤️

A very interesting video ! I thought things are much better for foreigners to live there in Japan now ! As I noticed that they made drastic changes back in '99 or so & restaurant's dishes's portions got bigger & the prices went very affordable ! And the rents are not that bad compared to London , N.Y.& L.A. !!! So , I really wonder why ! It was really bad for foreigners to live in Japan, especially Tokyo back in the '70's &' 80's !!! As long as you are able to get a visa (student or working holiday for example, or a company that is willing to sponsor you), you may be able to apply for a foreigner friendly practice. However, I imagine that this will be difficult as you would need Japanese to sign off on the legal stuff. It’s definitely best to learn some Japanese as any job outside of English teaching and hospitality (like hotel cleaning/waitressing) would ask for at least N2 from my experience. Good luck for next year! So the 2500 is really only meant to last you for the first 1/2 months max while you get the accommodation, legal expenses (registering at the ward, mobile data etc) and living costs sorted. I think the starting number depends on where you want to live initially. For Tokyo 2500 is very low. I would recommend saving up around 5K just as a safety net until you get your first job. The embassy will issue the visa with 1500 saved up (plus return ticket) but it would be an incredibly frugal couple of months. I hope this helps! ❤️

Can you buy a car while on a visa? I assume you probably could but it would probably be difficult learning the rules of the rode ect and getting a license for that particular country If got a visa to Japan I’d get myself a skyline for cheap and when the year is over ship it back to the us (edit why did I spell road like that oh well ) 😂

Requirements differ across unis in Japan but usually you need 12 years of education (so A levels included) and should be able to pass the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students. Language schools can be a bit more lenient with shorter courses but having A levels makes things a ton easier for full time study! Hope this helps ❤️

Unfortunately, the U.S. isn’t part of the working holiday visa agreement. I would recommend going down a work sponsorship route or through a cultural exchange programme such as JET. Another route is going through a language school. Your age wouldn’t really be a factor in these, including a lot of language schools (as long as you clearly outline your reasons for studying). uh, I feel like this is impossible to move from the US to Japan Because isn't one of the requirements for a work visa a bachelor's degree? I'm still in high school and I got two more years left but I feel like I'm not smart enough for college and also you literally have to sell your house here just to go to college.

Typically you would need a degree for a sponsored work visa (unless it’s for a hospitality sector but this varies by country so it is worth checking with the embassy in the US). I was just told the bank statement for a 1 year visa is 20,000 by someone I was trying to connect with (and not yen) is there any truth in this because thats terrifying for a college student. I was aiming for at highest 10,000 and lowest 6000 with Japan.
