Should add that during tank swaps you provoke on the cast bar not after. First time raiding P5S i got confused and killed main tank lol Also for fights with dual tank busters you need both with stance on at the start.

I should have!! My tank tips were the weakest here because it’s the role I’ve played the least of. This gets a pin for usefulness.

Unless is P7S and you're invulning the shared tankbuster. That thing snapshots always at the worst time. the amount of times my invul went to waste and the cotank died because they weren't understanding how the snapshot in that specific fight worked

It really depends on the individual fight/tank buster. For E1/3S for example, you need to provoke during the cast, or they take both hits.
@SayaKirasaka

Little correction about your last statement - You ONLY have both tanks have their stance up at the beginning if the boss is a wall boss, aka they wont move no matter who has the aggro. For bosses which do move around on the arena you have your OT wait till halfway through or after the burst to turn their stance on as to not fuck up positionals for meele's and the like. Reason being you never want to have tanks stack ontop of each other if both of them get hit by a tankbuster cuz chances are 9/10 they cleave and would just annihilate both tanks at once.
@coldspicy
@coldspicy 2 жыл бұрын
@@SayaKirasaka Your tip is good, yes!! As long as you don't wait until the TB is happening to turn on tank stance for fights with double TB, you are fine to delay it. If you only turn it on (or even provoke the boss) as the TB is happening, it will still snapshot on one of the dps and it'll kill them (and most likely the party too). You can always juggle your tank stance on and off if you think you're getting too close to "stealing aggro", but do make sure you're 2nd hate before the TB starts. (Edit: I realized I'm an idiot because I read "burst" and for some reason understood it as tank buster, so I've edited my comment as to add to your statement instead of trying to correct something I misunderstood. Sorry for the confusion!)

Tip for learning the timing of slide casting: Put an emote on your hotbar somewhere where you can see it while casting. When it stops being greyed out during a cast you can move without interrupting the cast.

I have heard it reported as 1,000 potency above the current max. This appears to be effected by the stance as well, so it sets you 10,000 potency over the current tank, assuming you have stance on. If your stance is off though, the MT will still rip the boss back in like a single GCD from their stance-enhanced hit. 1,000 potency is a decent sized number, but can still be overcome by unlucky crits, damage downs, and the like causing significant damage differentials between MT and OT, so shirking afterwards is still best practice even if it may not always technically be necessary.

One tip for tankbusters in this current raid tier (that will help in general): 99% of the dots applied in this game are after you take damage. The tankbuster deals x amount of damage, let's say, and applies a dot. The dot damage is equivalent to the damage taken from said tankbuster (35% of the tankbuster damage). So if you're getting hit by a tankbuster that deals 120k, and you use 20% mitigation, it drops to 96k. The dot then will tick for 35% of that 96k. On the topic of dots, be aware that they are not actually damage *per second*. It's actually every THREE (3) seconds. So, if you have a 10s dot, you'll receive 3 instances of damage from said dot.

The most important thing when it comes to high end content is execution. It doesn't matter how much damage you can do if you can't do mechanics. If you're not doing blind progression then be sure to read or watch available guides for the content in their entirety. Keep in mind there are several strategies for some mechanics, so study the one you'll be using. Whether you're doing blind progression or not, it also helps to have a way to record your pulls so you can watch them back.
@specstreTV
@specstreTV 2 жыл бұрын
This is definitely true! I just wanted to make a guide more centered on general job / game proficiency, since I think mechanics-while often shared / patterned between fights and tiers-are more specific to every encounter and should be learned on the job, so to speak. These principles are more universal and can be practiced at all levels of play. Spot on though, and it's nice there are so many fight guides out there for people!
@Eonaltus
@Eonaltus 2 жыл бұрын
If anyone new happens to read this, this is very true. Not dying is the number one way to do more damage. Once you learn the dance, then you can start adding the song. Which brings me to the song. Practice your rotations as much as you can and try to get it to become as close to second nature as possible. Start with dummies, and work your way up. I know it seems boring, but it pays off in the end. Whenever I pick up a new job, or have to learn a new rotation because of an expansion release or skill changes, it's the very first thing I do. After it starts to click in your brain, take it into dungeons. Try to prioritize doing your dailies with it. If you would feel better starting with Palace of the dead or Heaven on high, those are also great tools to build from the ground up. It's a muscle you have to build, and while you are building those muscles, you can figure out if thats really the job you want to play or give another job a shot to see if thats more interesting. Which brings us back to the dance. As Mentioned above, not dying and learning the fights are (possibly) the most important thing. Once you learn the choreography, you can start to slowly piece your rotation into what you are doing. And if you know your ABC's well enough, for the most part you'll know what mechanics are coming up based on your rotations, or vice versa. It's all a jigsaw puzzle, but the real important part is to have fun with it.
@specstreTV

@@Eonaltus Good insight and interesting thoughts, but I thought I'd add on and echo what I said to the original comment above: learning a fight and not dying is, as you say, absolutely important, but I think it's our relative veterancy that makes us focus on that OVER fundamentals. Admittedly, I understand your comment is more, "learning mechanics is the #1 way to NOT DIE" and less "learning mechanics is the #1 thing to do PERIOD," but likewise in case anyone new reads this and gets confused on that distinction, I want to explain why the latter interpretation can be DETRIMENTAL to improvement and why I still think the former is still up for debate. I'm sure you seen the people who only ever clear a tier late with tome BiS after every fight has been near trivialized, and still they limp through with a gray parse. Some of these people MAY be dying frequently, but speaking from my experience teaching friends or helping others, if you run some of those logs through analysis, their uptime is quite low and their CD usage is... spotty. Of course, a clear's a clear, but while this is getting a bit strawmanny, I've known a few of those people who have been throwing themselves at those fights for quite literally months but can't clear DPS checks consistently despite knowing the fight. You rightly point out the effectiveness of practicing on a dummy, but I really do think beginners ESPECIALLY should focus inward before looking outward, reversing your song / dance analogy. They will have an easier time learning universal principles that they can practice and implement ANYWHERE, and only when they're comfortable with that should they layer on the much more particular fight knowledge. Telling a new raider "learn the fight" is a lot like telling a new racer "learn the course." Is it valid advice? 100%-and VERY important to their success. But I wouldn't pluck someone without a license off the street and throw them into an F1 race with only that wisdom to guide them. They'd cause horrific accidents. It would be much safer for them to learn some driving basics first, e.g. over/understeering, how to overtake, what an inside line is, etc. I'd take it a step further and say that knowing fundamentals like rolling your GCD, using raid mit, and knowing the skeleton of your rotation all make not dying EASIER, since you can focus more on learning the fight and less on piloting your character, which should be at soooome level of unconscious competence. Of course, I'm not saying you should be at 100% uptime and casually 99 parsing before you clear Ex. 4 and P5S, but again, you already touched on it-knowing your job (and its cooldowns) will naturally align you to fight timers, making a boss EASIER to learn. TL;DR - both fight and job/gameplay knowledge are key parts of your raiding success, but rather than emphasizing fight knowledge, I think job/gameplay come first as proficiency there makes learning a boss EASIER.

Found your channel by complete accident but as someone who's been raiding for about 3 years now, these are very solid tips!! Together with your other video on FFXIV's unexplained mechanics, I would say these are all the basics you need if you want to get started on end game content! One thing I'd like to add tho, and it's mostly for dps players though it could be useful for tanks and healers as well: If you're unsure your rotation is on point and your dps is good enough to clear a fight, you can test it out with the Stone, Sky, Sea NPCs! The Endwalker one is located in Palaka's Stand in Thavnair (look for the Sharp-eyed Radiant) and is unlocked by doing the "A Place to Train" quest in Radz-at-Han. Stone, Sky, Sea is also good for training openers since all your cooldowns are reset when you enter the instance, and as a bonus you sometimes get funny descriptions of fights too (like the Nidhogg EX one)

My OH needs to cut down a lot but I find whoever is the other healer is to focused on DPS to heal here and there so I tend to OH through Medica II but I'm working on it. I think the biggest hurdle to entering Extreme / Savage / Ultimate stuff is that 150% of groups demand that you have read, watched and memorized any given fight to a point that nothing needs to be explained and everything will go without a wipe. As forgiving and friendly as the community is in casual content, I have never seen any MMO in which the people were less patient with newbies trying to get into the endgame.

I've actually had the opposite experience in PF, as long as you're upfront about being new to a fight and you aren't joining a party that is trying to prog a later phase. People will be mad if you don't know the mechs leading up to the prog point that was advertised in Party Finder, and they expect people to know the general gist of strats for the current prog phase. But if you join a fresh prog party, generally people are very nice and willing to explain mechs and give feedback kindly. It's only in later phases that people will be upset with you for not knowing the earlier stuff, because then you're actively wasting the time of an entire party who want to be learning the next phase instead.

One small note for sages, you can't always fit two phlegmas into a 2 minute burst. The first one you can and same with the second one (with about 0 seconds to spare) with one free phlegma cast in between, but after that it takes I believe 3 burst windows to realign, so mostly focus on getting 2 phlegmas into the first 2 buff windows and 1 phlegma into buff windows after.

One thing I do try to remember while tanking and trying to get into the headspace of wall to wall pulls is, arms length applies slow to everything that hits you for the duration which means they hit you less.

I can't agree with the Hallowed Ground comment enough as a paladin main since I've been leveling other classes it blows my mind how little I see it used. If doing a wall to wall pull if you pop it at the first wall it should be ready again in most dungeons by the first or second wall after the first boss, and then it should be up again for one of the last packs in a dungeon if not its ready for the final boss. (Obviously recast usage based on packs may happen on a sooner or later depending on the parties DPS)

It might be the "worst" mit in raid because of its long CD, but man is it amazing in dungeons. As a tank main, the one thing I see new tanks not doing, is using Arm's Length, it's arguably the best mitigation tool that ALL tanks have available. Also in regards to mitigation, start with the weakest one first, for instance if you're a GNB it'll be Camouflage > Rampart > Nebula, don't stack them ever. Then you also have the type of mitigation that heal you, like Heart of Corundum & Aurora, use them always, it's free healing that your healer don't have to heal. And then you also have Reprisal which lowers the damage the enemies deal. And of course you also have your invulnerable ability, which for GNB is Superbolide, the thing about invulns is that they all work differently from each other, Hallowed Ground is pretty much the only one that can be used proactively, where as Holmgang, Living Dead & Superbolide are better used reactively, since you still take damage with Holmgang & Living Dead, Superbolide puts you at 1hp before the shield is applied, but if used in tandem with Heart of Corundum you'll at least get 30% of your HP back. So in short, know when to mitigate and how much you'll need, shields are better than damage reduction, and don't stack unless necessary.

As of patch 6.2, provoke now gives more enmity than just 1 above the highest. From at least running it with my tank partner, you can now shirk first and provoke second, and end up at ~50% enmity of that of your off tank. So if you are tanking, you can fit either provoke or shirk during the cast bar irregardless of what your off tank does, and trust that they provoke/shirk some time around then as well. If you are looking to tank, macro "/ac Shirk " is a must have. As long as you have a standard party list, your offtank will always be second in the party, and there should be next to 0 reason why you would want to shirk anyone else other than your off tank. Plus another benefit of tanking is that your Reprise is on a 60s cooldown, and there are two tanks. That means there should be a reprise on every AOE and Tank buster, talk with your tank buddy on reprise priority.

7:25 It's funny cause the latest tier opens with the biggest tank invuln troll ever: It'll straight up stack the DoT to about twice your health per tick. Also, as a Paladin Main: If the party is about to get nuked, PLEASE STACK so I can weave Passage of Arms properly. Some tank tips specifically: Some boss hitboxes are massive and the party is gonna be on the other end of it. Stand. INSIDE. The hitbox. When possible. Also, you'll have long cooldown defensives and a spammable one. You want to combine the long cooldown with the spammable one. Also, reprisal raidwides, and coordinate reprisal with the other tank. Also Also, for the love of all that is Holy Sheltron, HOLD YOUR SHIRK until the other tank grabs aggro, unless you're reasonably close. Don't be that guy who shirks way too early and then grabs aggro again. Also, if the boss is enormous and sits with the center outside the actual arena, that is a static boss. Both tanks will want to turn on tank stance for these (though you'll still want to keep the pecking order up. A shirk 10 GCD's in should do the trick). Also, here's a macro you'll want to try: /ac "Shirk" Three guesses what this does.

For those who forgot Addle and Feint exist because prior to their rework they borderline useless unless you knew what type of stat the boss used: I personally recommend getting used to adding them on Tank busters in low level content, when you're doing your daily grinds and get Haukke Manor or Stone Vigil. When you see the big spinning red circles of death, drop Feint/Addle on the target to get used to the idea that it is there. 90% of tanks at that level fall into one of two categories: A) The sprout tank who doesn't recognize a tank buster and doesn't use any mitigation for it. B) The veteran tank who thinks because they're wearing i.lvl 6,000 gear and are being level sync'd down to level 50 for the dungeon that this TB won't hurt. In both situations these tanks make the healer have to do more work since they're going to lose a large chunk of their HP if not die in some extreme cases. Throwing out Feint/Addle helps mitigate these attacks AND helps you get used to using the ability :) You can also do it on raid-wides if you know an attack is going to hit the entire team regardless of positioning/distance. Work your way up and as you learn fights you can learn where to addle/feint, but getting used to HITTING THE FREAKING BUTTON is the first step :)

Another tell for no positionals is if the arrow in the front of the enemy is inside the circular hitbox or outside of it, if its inside the hitbox, there are no positionals and you always get the bonus. Also in more recent fights bosses have such gigantic hitboxes that you can be halfway across the arena from the model and still hit the boss as you can be 3 yalms from that red circle and still hit (although auto attack range is slightly shorter and auto damage does add up for non caster jobs)

LOL, yes, that's fair. It's good to kind of vet the healer though, and if you're reasonably confident their keyboard is plugged in, then using Hallowed constructively will let them DPS on the pack carefree. Healer DPS is actually QUITE significant, especially at endgame, and it isn't uncommon for healer AoE (especially Sage's) to beat tanks and rival ACTUAL DPS on big trash pulls. But as you said, if you're a little Suspicious of their ability to actually play the game, holding it can be safer. :)

A small tip as well (this mainly effects dungeons, but has its applications in some raids, such as the current unreal trial Sephirot EX); please understand that aoe skills have their potencies multiplied by the amount of targets they hit, so in 99% of cases, if your aoe skill will hit 3+ enemies, it's a gain and a MASSIVE one over your single target gcd's. If your aoe skill has a potency of 120, and it hits 10 mobs, that's 1200p on a singular gcd, versus most single target potencies ranging from 300-500p. TL;DR 3+ mobs, use your aoe skills please :) P.S provoke puts a tank at top enmity in addition to a large portion of addition aggro, it's still advised for OT's to shirk when possible, however you don't risk instantly losing aggro like old provoke had the issue of. (Old provoke was top aggro +1, current is top aggro +2000p). :)

I've recently started playing FFXIV so some stuff I don't know how they work but for example, in WoW if you're a very proficient DPS class and know a fight and it's mechanics super well you could use your defensive cooldowns as basically an offensive one, lets say some boss does an AoE attack that you know by experience would normally eat like 20% of your total HP so when it comes, you pop your defensives to cut down that damage a lot, that way you can be a bit more greedy (for example attempt to do that to refresh a dot on the boss before moving from avoidable damage or pressing your big-D damage ability while your big-D offensive CD still has 2 secs left before fading). I don't know if thats a thing in FFXIV, especially which melee DPS classes have strong defensive CDs.
@specstreTV
@specstreTV 2 жыл бұрын
Your instincts are right, though it of course depends on the mechanic! A lot of higher end raids in FF have “team” mechanics that require everyone to solve them or else inflict damage downs or insta-wipes, so those are out, but otherwise it’s totally valid. In fact, they removed it, but Samurai’s personal defensive used to have a really fun “combo” where after absorbing damage, two other abilities would light up: a small self heal, or a counterattack that did a decent bit of free damage. I never played SAM at a high enough level to know how worth it that hit was, but in leveling / casual content, I loved stepping into (minor) damage just for the fun of using that. And today, Black Mage is actually probably the best example of what you’re talking about. It’s a caster that wants to be rooted in place and just nuke DPS, kind of like a destro lock, and they’re notoriously reliant on Mana Ward, a (I think) 30% max hp shield that lets them soak some damage and remain turreted up.

Well the GCD point is true, but also FFXIV has several instances were not clicking any random button is preferable. Especially for Combo heavly classes i rather recommend playing clean and then increase your uptime, to prevent bad habits nesting in.
@specstreTV
@specstreTV 2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely true that bad habits can form easily, but I think these are edge cases rather than hard truths. Especially post-EW where combos are more lenient, I had less in mind the ShB warrior breaking his combo with tomahawk and more the newer WHM who shuts down when there’s no damage to heal and they’re confused about what to do. Ideally they’d spam Glare, but if they refresh their DoT too early instead and clip 1-2 ticks of unbuffed Dia damage, then that’s better than sitting completely idle. But of course, you’re right-IDEALLY, people train on a dummy and get comfortable with at least a core rotation / priority system and aren’t pressing completely random keys for the sake of the XIVanalysis uptime!!

Those tools definitely exist and can, in my opinion, do some real good for their users-less to “flex” and be rude to others, but more as a metric for improvement and measuring your uptime, mistakes in your rotation, effective crit chance, etc. You’re totally right that if the boss dies, that’s mission accomplished, but as bosses in a tier can get successively harder and with tighter DPS checks, self-analyzing your damage can really help!

3:35 I was in a dungeon as PLD when watching the video, and this part came JUST as I used hallowed ground because my life depended on it. You have no idea what kind of party you're getting when solo queuing, so keeping it off cool-down gives you space to adjust. You don't tend to notice that the healer can't keep up until it's too late for anything less than using invuln to give yourself time to self-heal. And this is doubly true for Astrologians
@elara6969
@elara6969 2 жыл бұрын
Using good mitigation up front, like hallowed ground, should prevent situations like this most of the time. Pld's personal mitigation is a little bit worse than the other 3 tanks so proactively using hallowed will make up for that disparity. Give it a chance and see how it feels.
@specstreTV
@specstreTV 2 жыл бұрын
You’re absolutely right that sometimes you have no choice but to hold invuln, especially when it’s a newer healer! AST -can- be quite sketchy (it’s probably the “worst” dungeon healer, though the job is still immensely powerful in all other contexts) but I also think a tank should read the room. If a sprout who keeps canceling their own casts is giving you a spook, sure, hold Hallowed! But if it’s a Heavens’ Legend SCH doing 16k dps on packs, you’re probably safe to use it as mentioned here and make the run even smoother. Like you said, it’s about adjusting, but a lot of PLDs I see have basically abandoned Hallowed as a real cooldown and NEVER press it once in the entire run, despite also never being in danger.

Sorry if that wasn't clear! When I said 3 of the 4 healers have a 2 min CD, I was excluding Sage, but then made the point that Sage still interacts w/ raid buff windows because of Phlegma, which it wants to use 2 stacks of inside everyone else's raid buff window.
@ROCKMANDRONIAN
@ROCKMANDRONIAN 2 жыл бұрын
@@specstreTV WHM's presence of mind fits in exactly the same way as Phlegma, you want to fit the entirety of PoM into the buff window so that you're casting the max amount of glares possible. Also for every buff window after the opener you want to go into it with an Afflatus Misery as well
@specstreTV
@specstreTV 2 жыл бұрын
@@ROCKMANDRONIAN For sure, but PoM is on a 2 minute timer and so braindead aligns with the current raid buff meta, and w/ the amount of healing needed in the current tier, Misery pretty naturally slots in every 60 (and thus 120) seconds too. However, new players especially may not track their Phlegmas and it requires more conscious planning and decision making to keep 2 stacks inside raid buffs-in any case, the point in the video (made @ about 5:17) was that either your job will naturally have a CD that, on rails, aligns w/ the buff meta every 2 minutes, or like in SGE's case where no such buff exists, nonetheless has some sort of damage / burst that SHOULD BE used within that window! Edit to add: I went back and looked at the video to be absolutely certain, but I don't think I ever implied Sage had a raid buff! It was used as an example to the contrary-a job without a buff that still played w/ the window. Other examples of course would be jobs like MCH or SAM, which have to align with the window "unnaturally" with their rotations rather than simply pressing a button every 120 seconds, e.g., White Mage, which while it doesn't contribute a "raid buff," it also doesn't have to put any greater thought into alignment than looking at the CD.

Like Tobi said, it depends! Being honest, while FF is usually praised for its welcoming community, the classic flavor of competitive toxicity DOES exist in the raid scene. However, you can find a like-minded group of chill people and there's always room for beginners. You might not immediately get an invite to a super veteran static dedicated to parsing, but those guys didn't start in groups like that, either. You could try to just use Party Finder for in-game pugs, but tbh, that has its own brand of problems. If you're serious about trying, my suggestion is to look at discords like FFXIV Recruiter and applying to a beginner group! It's not at all uncommon for a bunch of new people to be led by a vet w/ some experience, and it can make easing into the content much smoother. Of course, finding 7 other brand new raiders is totally valid too! Whatever works :D

One advice, focus on finding people based not on capability, but on how dedicated they are. You can always get good eventually, but the main issue for unfortunate statics are really scheduling, respecting eachother's time, and obviously, respecting eachother as a whole. Anyone can clear anything given enough time, this is true even for Ultimates, so if you feel you/your static isn't good enough, don't worry. You'll get better. What matters is finding like minded people that are willing to learn and are dedicated. Skills come after. Don't get taken in by the negative parts of parsing, parses are a learning tool, and a glorified high score leaderboard. You don't need purples to clear most content (assuming you're not doing week one). You should use it and XIVAnalysis after to help you get better, but don't treat it like a competition. Treat it like a personal high score and learning tool. When people treat it too much like a competition, that's where you'll find the "aggressive" people. They're not worth shit.
@Luna________
@Luna________ 2 жыл бұрын
It really depends, mostly it revolves about expectations. If you join a party finder group and static they often look for a certain skill level (or in PF a certain amount of knowledge about a fight). But if you find other newbies or people who are cool with playing with newbies and set their expectations accordingly, toxicity should rarely arise.

Honestly, one of my favorite aspects of paladin is Hallowed. It can get annoying in high-end content where you need invulns repeatedly, ie barbara's shared buster, where you have to actually share the second one if you get it twice as pld, but in casual content it's my favorite ability to press. It's gotten to the point that playing other tanks with their different invulns can be a let down because of how much damage you have to take to use them efficiently. But if you're a pld in a dungeon, use hallowed on the first or second trash pack, depending on whichever is bigger, and i can guarantee you it will be up again for the last or second to last pull trash pack! It's great! Two whole trash packs where you take no damage for 10 seconds!! With a whm this can be even longer!!! It's great!
@specstreTV

Pretty much exactly this! I think in a pure raid context, Holmgang blows Hallowed out of the water because of the CD difference, but in unoptimized content like dungeons, Hallowed is amazing for making trash trivial. "ABC" is just a popular acronym for "always be casting," a reminder that you should always be rolling the global cooldown. Said cooldown triggers every time you press a spell or weaponskill in FFXIV (it's the little lockout period where your bar goes gray in between actions), and delaying it basically causes you to waste your time and therefore DPS. In other words, "ABC" just means "press your keys as often as possible."

No, that's totally fair!! In that light, it doesn't sound dumb at all. :D Totally respect you for getting ahead of the curve and trying to learn these things now, though don't stress about it too much-things will come over time. As for GCD and oGCD: any spell labeled "spell" or "weaponskill" under the name is on the global cooldown and will trigger it. Anything labeled "Ability" is an oGCD, meaning it's totally separate from the GCD and WON'T trigger it. Typically, you "weave" these between your GCDs. A lot of jobs don't have access to these until later, but toward endgame, almost everyone has things to weave. You press a GCD-triggering button, then an oGCD or two while your bar's recharging, then another GCD. It's a rhythm that varies from job to job, but you'll figure it out once you get your hands on it!

As a learning white mage, is there a way to get more freecure procs? Also on big pulls in dungeons i usually prep swiftcast to instaheal the tank when they stop moving. Is this a good thing to do or nah?
@greybright
@greybright 2 жыл бұрын
You should generally be avoiding using cure 1 once you learn cure 2, it's more time efficient so you can get back to using Holy. But if you need to use cure 1, i don't think there's a way to get more freecure. Using swiftcast like that isn't bad if you're confident you can keep the tank alive. Some keep it in case they need to swiftcast rez but it isn't a hard rule, do what you want.

As a WHM main (who admittedly doesn't min/max dungeons) play as if freecure isn't a thing. If you have the time to cast Cure 1, you have the time to cast an offensive GCD then cast Cure 2 to make up for the additional damage the tank may have taken! Again, Green DPS :) (of course this doesn't apply to super low level dungeons where you only have Cure 1 haha) Also, it can be worth it to keep Switcast for Raise if you're going into content with people who are not familiar with the instance, but it's on a minute cooldown, so use it for flexibility! You can cast a Switcast spell as you move, so if there's no incoming damage + you have to cross the map + you just refreshed your Aero/Dia....you may as well Swift + Stone/Glare! 😀

Free cure is a newbie bait. Cure 2 is more effective both mp and gcd wise and doesn't rely on RNG to be effective. As you get higher in level, things like lilies, benediction, tetra, and other things would be better be used to heal when you have them up, and holy will be your best MIT because of the stuns in dungeons for the first 7-10 seconds of each trash pull. Asylum+regen is also a good combo when you get both together, as the regen of them both together can sometimes be all you need to heal someone.
@BoredDan7
@BoredDan7 2 жыл бұрын
@@Tragodile Actually Cure 1 is more mp effective. It's still not something you should be using in 99.99% of situations, but it's 500 potency for 400MP (1.25 p/mp) versus Cure II which is 800 potency for 1000MP (0.8 p/mp), so even before freecure it is more mana efficient. If you really want mana efficiency for GCD heals (ignoring lilies for now) it's regen that is best. It's 18s (7 ticks) of 250 potency each for a total of 1750 potency at the cost of 400 MP (4.375 p/mp). But at the end of the day, MP is rarely a problem for healers in XIV unless you just died, were mass rezzing, or are using a min piety set in savage. Even when it is a problem it is still rarely ever needed that you must immediately pump out GCD heals with urgency and rate that Cure II would not do the job. The big thing that makes cure 2 the better spell is that it is more time and GCD efficient. Cure 1 is rarely a good option because there are more mana efficient options such a regen, your lillies, oGCDs, and benediction, and it's your weakest single target heal. It's only good use is when it is impossible to use anything else to do the job because of that, and when you are in a situation to justify it's use, well you're probably going to wipe anyways.

Others here have about covered it, but yeah, you can pretty much forget Cure 1 exists-it’s a relic from another time in the game’s life, though I’m not sure it was even good back then… People have been asking for it to be removed forever and just replaced by Cure 2 when you level up. In 99.9999% of cases, it’s just inefficient bc Cure 2 hits harder and isn’t that much more expensive or slower to use, and even Cure 2 is really just a backup tool. At endgame you’ll have way better options (mostly Lilies). It sounds like a shameless self plug, but if you want some dungeon tips, look at my WHM video! Using Swift to heal the tank isn’t horrible (especially if they’re going to die!), but after level 45 you have Holy, which is a way better target for Swift at the start of a pull.

@7:00 as tank never turn the boss. Always go through it lol alot of good tips otherwise. Also never use invuls in dungeons unless the healer is OOM or the healer just dpsing and not healing. Use your mitigation during trash pulls. Bosses use MITs on tank busters or party wides. tldr use mitigation tanks. Pls. Literally everyone will thank you.

That turn was ugly for sure LOL, I kept seeing it during editing and was like “I can’t go through a dungeon again…” As tank mains can probably tell, I’m not actually a tank, but still wanted to cover some of the basics in a “do as I say and not as I do” way. However AS a healer, I think tank invulns going unused in dungeons is a real crime! Some are better than others (Living Dead w/ anything but a WHM, specifically one you trust, is a bit sketchy to say the least), but especially in the case of Hallowed, it can really smooth out a pull. It’s not like you will EVER need them on normal dungeon bosses, and with how much mit tanks and healers have, it’s pretty rare to see a tank ever drop on trash anyway. Using invuln-again, esp Hallowed which requires 0 attention, help, or maintenance from a healer-can ONLY help. But yes please god use mit…

@@specstreTV living dead was bad. Now it's good lol arguably warrios is one of the best invul because short CD on it. Paladins is very safe and easy. Gnbs is better used not in trash pulls lmao. But ultimately it's trusting your healer while pull, first pull being the most important. I mainly play tanks and dps. Can usually spot a "not a tank" player lol ugly turns hurt me lol.

@@stevoyah Yeah, LD was garbage and it’s a lot better now, but it’s still one (*in unorganized contexts of wild skill variance like expert dungeons) that I wouldn’t necessarily plan a pull around. Holmgang is, for the reason you said, probably the best invuln in raids, but also might be hard to get mileage out of in dungeons if a healer just starts spamming Cure 2 the moment you start to dip. Hallowed is the one I focused on here because it’s so uniquely non-conditional and while the long CD punishes that heavily, it makes it so good for dungeons specifically. Super can be amazing if a healer knows how it works and doesn’t suddenly panic, though. It’s not Hallowed, but especially with a WHM, it can effectively do the same thing. Eventually though it just comes down to “do I trust my healer to have a keyboard,” and if the answer is no, then holding invuln might be the answer LOL

@@specstreTV dipping with hp with warrior? Almost never lol unless in low level dungeons basically anything post 50 you have so much self heal lol. It's a good choice of an example but you are right if you trust the healer or not is keyboard lolol most healers I trust.
