This is how a break par, or 80, or 90 video is supposed to go. Thank you Pete, every other video I've seen from other people about this just say, "don't do this and don't do that" obviously if I could control those things I wouldn't do them. This video gave specific ideas on how and why to do certain things. Top notch!

Pete, this great advice for all players and employed similar thoughts on Saturday. Trying to hard to get my official handicap, the previous week, I hit 102 but adopting a more thoughtful approach and with the help of you swing quest chipping video, this week, I hit 88 with two lost balls. I felt relaxed enough to actually enjoy the round. Thanks mate ❤

My game has also improved by spending time with my son (who loves the range and short game area) and taking more time and hitting less unproductive ego drives and more time striking the ball for a purpose. I have always enjoyed the short game area too, it makes me laugh how many people belt away on the range with the big dogs and hit the ball a mile or brag about how far they hit the ball and then have the touch of a welder round the greens and wonder why my handicap is lower even being a slight short arse! It is far more fun (or is it just me) practicing chip and runs, flops, pitching, learning yardages with all your wedges and trying different things incluing the bunkers so when you need it you already have an arsenal of shots you know how to play and a fair indication of how far it will travel and react on arrival. Oh and putting, we all need to do more from inside 10 feet !

Agreed. Gollf is full of men with fragile egos who just want to outhit one another. It's so tiresome and cringe to me. Give me a deft 80 yard wedge shot to 3 foot over a 300 yard drive.

I enjoyed this. In the last year, course management has become a much bigger concern of my game as my swing and driving have allowed me to be more consistent. I'm having to play courses differently than I did in the past because now I'm further up the fairway or past that dog leg I could never get beyond. Knowing what you can and can't do is a huge piece of getting around the course.

Mr Finch, 3 years ago my son introduced me to your channel. At the time we were both unrated with no index. After much hard work and a few thrown clubs, we are both in the golf industry and the first father son team to take the PAT in August. We both work in the industry and he’s now playing at a 4.1 index. He’s better than I, and I have a lot of work to do, but I know I couldn’t have done this without your videos and positivity. My wedge game has become so much better and now I just need to get control of my head. Thanks so much. Next time you’re in the states, put a finch day together anywhere in the states and we’d jump at the chance to attend a finch clinic! Thanks for being so positive and ultimately vulnerable in your content. It makes a difference, even for those of us that are starting the game later in life.

Excellent again! I think the course management videos translate the best as far as affecting my actually golf game. The tips are amazing, but even the most simple ones take time to implement to ones specific swing. The course management is instant, and makes me feel like I’m actually playing golf - which is ultimately why we watch! And to support Pete! And to pretend the world isn’t on fire!

It's a miracle!!! Someone advocating to play Driver. So many YT Golfers now seem to want to be hitting anything but, mainly because its what they see on TV and favour position over everything. Meanwhile real stats show the closer the approach shot is played from the closer the first putt will be.

Great video Finchy, the point about the 6ft and under putts is really useful. I missed 5 or 6 of them last week and that was the difference between a high 80's and a low 90's round (both good for me). I'll keep that in mind.

Great information on the transition to being a scratch golfer. I played for a couple of years with two guys who primarily focused on their swing and strike, while ignoring short game, mental clarity, and course management. Since moving away from practice of strike hitting hundreds of balls a week plus playing twice, and moving to 3-6 ft from the flag. My score began dropping. Now focused on mental and course management, and it’s dropping again. Next goal 70’s. Thanks again!

Love these videos. I recently got back into golf after having taking off nearly 7 years. Here are the things that really helped me. I watch videos breaking down the swing and attempt to do those things but was not mindful of my distance between my eyes and the ball and as a consequence was consistently raising up out of my swing and topping the ball which led to me intentionally trying to lower myself on the attack in which case I was hitting fat. I realized that with everything you learn online or from someone, you have to maintain that distance throughout the shot. The next was focusing on the ball and attempting to hit it at a specific spot on the right side of the ball and I was constantly missing. I realized that it makes more sense to focus your eyes on the left side of the ball or even a little in front if necessary and envisioning hitting "through" the ball. The last is my line; I tend to accidentally lead with my hands at the top of my swing and end up getting in front of my body and pulling. I now take a practice backswing and exaggerate driving my hips and then pulling everything from them which, at the time I would make impact, puts my hands far in front of the ball and the line of my club face and my target looks really good. That is my quick practice swing and then I kick that out of my head and go back to focusing on the ball knowing that I already hit the switch that will fix the problem of leading with my hands. These are just a few things you may want to address in a video if you have some ideas on how to help.

going for PAT in April, mapping the course tomorrow. Planning from green to tee, sight lines, targets, and green speeds "Keep ego out" best advice around
@davidfowles1252
@davidfowles1252 2 жыл бұрын
One of the key things I have learnt but re-inforced by the North of England You Tube Golf Community: Put the ego away and concentrate with your own game and how you hit the ball and the clubs you use for certain shots. There will always be someone who hits it further or straighter or who shapes their shots but it does not make them a better player. I have seen how some people belt a ball a mile with iron x but the way they shut the face or the way they deloft it or even the loft on their make of club means it is academic. Having played with Ping i5's for 15 years I got my handicap down and enjoyed knowing how they worked in my grip and dynamic and how they were a safe club with yardages I knew without the laminated crib sheet. That said I finally changed them in the Autumn with stronger fitted clubs as my dynamic had changed with age and experience with the benefit that the gapping means I need one less iron at the top end freeing up space for a much needed 4th wedge. The irons were also chosen as they were easier to work on half, 3/4 shots thus making gapping even easier as well as manipulating flights for different wind conditions. Another top tip is to find a quiet time (if they exist) on the course or use time wehn the course is slow and hit two balls off the tee selecting different clubs or shots so you can experiment with different options like Peter described and seeing if playing percentages is the best for you or actually on some holes it is easier just to 'Whackit (where appropriate)".

I like thinking about all shots as if they're a putt. All that matters is the swing weight and starting line. Where it finishes is a result of getting those two things right. For me it means way less thinking when I'm over the ball, which means better shots!

Hahaha. That’s golf! Bashed that last putt right in!!! I’m a 11 handicap (and 68 yrs old) and when I play well I’m not thinking about my swing but the target based on a ‘no hero shot’ strategy. And you are right it all comes down to strategy & putting. My advice is: Avoid 3 putting! And don’t add up your score prematurely, just play in the moment.

One thing that really helped me out is stepping off my put distance and converting the distance into feet, knowing the actual distance makes all the difference. I spend time putting from set distances before the round and this gives me a good feel for how to pace my puts during the round. I’m alway amazed at how many people just guess at the distance of there puts and wonder why there put end up short or long.

Great info Pete! I'm not sure I 100% agree with the comment that the biggest difference between 0hcp and 25hcp players when it comes to putting is the short putts. I know the make percentage is pretty low for both from 30 feet, but I bet the 3-putt percentage from 30 feet is way higher for 25hcp players. Lag putting and securing 2-putts from outside 20 feet makes a big difference to your score.

One thing that has helped me a lot the last year is my gap wedge. I know I can hit it almost bang on 120 yards every time so on par 4's, I play the hold backwards kind of and just tee off with whatever club leaves me 120 from the green. It's helped a lot!

8 handicapper here. Last round shot my worst 9 holes at local course on front nine (11 over) followed by my best 9 holes on the back nine (-1 under) for a +10 finish. The front nine is harder for me because i suck at managing 4 particular holes (double bogeyed them). I think i just have to work on perfecting my gentle fade and take my medicine by leaving driver in the bag on short par 4s. Btw nice video and advice here.

You just confirmed that I have been on the correct practice path especially with the 3-6' putts.
