That's not exactly true though. There is always right amount of time in particular temperature for particular type of tea. If you keep it longer it get's worse. 5 minutes in 90 something deegrees is typical for many black tea types. I'm more of a green tea drinker. Those often go around 2-3 minutes in 70 degrees (or the range is from 60-80 to be exact). If you keep it longer more toxic substances and bitter tastes start appearing. On the BBC matter, I gotta focus more on the water quality I guees.

I have read that adding milk somehow binds up some of the nutrients in tea. Also, Asian sources have said to let the boiling water sit and "cool" for about 5 minutes before adding to the tea. Nothing -- especially hot -- should be eaten or drunk out of Styrofoam, or most other plastics, as the plastic molecules enter the contents. Dogs that have plastic food and/or water dishes develop symptoms which may include a lightening nose. Looseleaf tea is often a better quality than the stuff they chop up in teabags. Also, many inferior (cheaper) companies use a type of plastic teabag -- see above.

As a chemist, I'm astounded that the "tea" scientist mentioned nothing about temperature. Too high of a temperature will extract out some of the astringent tannic acids found in the tea leaves and make the tea taste terrible.
@usmguy12345 жыл бұрын
@chaosfactor333 They should and they are: though some of the information available seems counter intuitive from what I've seen. I would rely on my personal senses and experiment. If the tea was bitter, lowering the temperature will help extract less tannins (they start extracting around 60C).
@usmguy12345 жыл бұрын
@@s.146 ok boomer.
@matthewphelps16005 жыл бұрын
@chaosfactor333 Yes, search up the optimal temperature for your tea. Green tea has the lowest brewing temperature because it has amino acids (I believe, please don't quote me) which break down at high temperatures, leading to excessive bitterness. On the other hand, black teas are typically brewed with water that just came off boil, and the water needs to be this hot or else the flavours aren't properly extracted from the tea. You can see this effect with high quality whole-leaf tea, at low temperatures the leaves don't fully expand and the tea is weak. As mentioned in the video, brewing time is another critical factor. Some green teas are brewed for less than a minute, while black teas can be brewed as long as 10 minutes. For this I would recommend using a timer and determining which time is right for you (and your tea). Brewing times often vary based on the tea itself (type of tea of course, but also how the tea was processed, region it was grown in, etc.) Remember that more time = more bitterness, so if you're looking for more flavour, use more tea instead of more time. If you're looking to learn more, an excellent read is The Tea Book: Experience the World's Finest Teas by Linda Gaylard. It covers just about everything you need to know about tea itself, in terms of processing, regions, types (there is the common green tea, black tea, but also yellow tea, white tea, even purple tea). Also an excellent read is How to Make Tea by Brian Keating & Kim Long. This covers more of the objective science of making tea, in terms of brewing vessels, hard water vs. soft water, oxygen content of the water, etc. On Amazon for $6 and a quick 160pg read.

One other tip. Do not boil the water. Boiling water reduces the amount of dissolved oxygen in it. To get the flavor out of tea leaves we need their reaction with oxygen. So using boiled water will give u lesser flavor, more bitter tea. Use water which is just about to boil or just when u notice the first boil bubble. Also the tea bag should ideally not be of paper but like a muslin cloth so that we don't get that paper flavor in tea

And that’s just for black tea… imagine if they have to make green tea using delicate young leaves that are easily damaged, none of these techniques would be suitable, even the water filtering part. While it is true that hard water doesn’t do any recipe justice, mineral water is actually preferred over purified water when it comes to enhancement of the flavour of green tea. And the water needs to be allowed to cool down a bit from boiling point so as not to decimate the tea leaves which, if you choose top range varieties, are always the first shoots of Spring and therefore very fine and tender. Steeping top quality green tea is never a good idea, because the leaves just can’t handle such brutalities and break down fast. Instead, it is recommended by green tea enthusiasts to make the tea in a cup and save it to serve from a pot: a single measure of leaves can be “brewed” three or four times in quick secession using a cup and strainer, and each “batch” of tea is poured into the serving pot after 20 seconds’ contact with water. Once you have accumulated a pot of freshly made tea, the leaves have served their purpose and can be discarded, and you have light but aromatic tea to enjoy as it is (no milk nor sugar). I still remember the tea shop that I visited many years ago, the shopkeeper lady made such exquisite tea for us to try on the spot using exactly this method, that my taste buds still remember it to this day.

No mention of whether the boiled water ought to be left to cool slightly before adding it to the cup. Milk was not mentioned - full cream vs. others. Does the quantity of milk to infused water affect flavour? & how about adding sugar - one lump or two? And every Brit knows the time of day affects the flavour of the tea. A tea taken at 4pm afternoon tastes best. If I take tea with a biscuit is it ok to dunk the biscuit in the tea or should I be spooning the tea over the biscuit? & will I look like a silly twat if I do? Drinking Twinings tea is psychologically more satisfying than drinking Tetleys. If I'm in my pjamas at 11am in the morning will the tea taste better?

Don’t bother waiting for boiled water to cool. Whichever milk fits personal preference; ratio of milk to tea makes a MASSIVE difference. Milk always goes in last. Dunking of biscuit should last no longer than half a second, lest the integrity of the biscuit become compromised and the structurally weakened treat falls into your cup. Do NOT use a spoon to pour tea over the biscuit, you will look like a cock-womble. Tea will taste better whilst wearing comfortable clothing at 11am, though by that point you should probably be on your second or third cup, or your nationality as a Brit will be up for debate.

Right. I buy different types of tea from China where I live. And I usually wait 15-20 seconds for each round, because if I wait longer the tea will be so bitter, it will be impossible to drink. But then I have many rounds of the same leaves. Maybe 5 or 6.

Tea bags are, in theory, strong enough to make several cups. The 'thing' of one bag- one cup was a marketing ploy about 15 or so years ago. I remember the novelty of a one cup tea bag, and how odd it seemed, yet now it is the norm and people who do it the old way are thought as being odd. Clearly for a while now the tea makers sell a lot more tea bags and the person who had the idea of selling tea bags for limited use deserves a (commercial) pat on the back.

well it is not a surprise to people from the middle east and russia as they have followed these for centuries , here are tips for a cup of good tea: 1- never use tea bag as usually junk low quality tea goes there. alway use a decent loose tea 2- you should brew the tea for at least 5-10 minutes depending on type of the tea 3- indirect heat for brewing is the best, search for "samover" 4- soft water is necessary or even the best tea will taste nothing by the way, milk in tea you see only in UK :D

Milk in hot tea is common in the US as well. But, ask for tea in the Southern States and it will come cold over ice, and sweet enough to hurt your teeth.

First brought to a fine art in China millennia ago, assumes towering cultural importance in Japan, grown on vast scale in India. So let's ask the British how to drink it?
@granand4 жыл бұрын
Indians were drinking "Kashaya" an organic nature therapy (Ayurveda) approved tea roots and powder and spices boiled to extract until Britishers served tea free until we all were addicted. Now world drinks organic non-caffeine tea & India hooked on tea and added spices to tea:-) British did this to export Tea to China and make money out of India.
@alexlyster34594 жыл бұрын
I thought India getting hooked on tea was just a side effect. The story as I know it was that the British initially bought their tea from China, who would only accept payments in Silver. Eventually they ran out of silver, and so what they did was start smuggling opium into China, which they got paid for in silver. They would use this to buy more tea. This effectively was the largest drug cartel of all time. The opium was grown in India and other colonies, causing addiction (though not on the same scale as in China). Eventually the British were able to smuggle a Chinese tea ant out of the country along with several several chinese tea growing masters, who were able to help them cultivate their own black tea in India (which had the perfect, and in ways even better) climate for it. Overtime the scale of tea making in India made black tea just as popular as it was back in the UK.
@granand4 жыл бұрын
@@alexlyster3459 While growing in India they sold to India too, but they need to first addict us ..so they served free every where & eventually British made money selling Tea in India grown in India, cultivated by Cheap labour of India ..as Indians slowly replaced cocktail of roots to easy tea ..they still used ancient methods of boiling. That is how Chai was born
@alexlyster34594 жыл бұрын
@@granand Interesting. I didn't know that part of the story. I thought Chai was just the root name for tea in the parts of the world where tea travelled to by land, and tea (or similar in other languages) is what it was called in countries that tea was transported to by sea. Try looking at a worldwide map of it! The name probably spread after what you've described though.
