With the decline of Klay Thompson, trade of Jordan Poole, this gave Kuminga plenty of opportunity to do him. But, there's still person who's in his way: Steve Kerr.
Throughout the season, it was clear Jonathan Kuminga was upset about his role with Golden State. Even though he was the teams 2nd best player all year, Kuminga only started 46/74 games this year and averaged 26 minutes per game. Towards the 2nd half of the season, it seemed like Steve Kerr began to trust and embrace Jonathan Kuminga, but when it came to the post season, Kerr still doesn't.
In the NBA Play In game vs Sacramento Kings, Jonathan Kuminga ended up coming off the bench once again, despite proving himself in the regular season, and Klay Thompson started in his place, who was averaging 20 points on 42% shooting from 3 off the bench (vs 18 points per game on 38% shooting from 3 as a starter). Ultimately, this decision led to the Golden State Warriors losing by 24 and their season being over. So in today's video, we breakdown what the Warriors missed out on by Steve Kerr not playing Jonathan Kuminga as much as he should have.

When the Warriors were playing the Pelicans on April 12, the bench brought the game back into a 3-point difference after being down nearly 20 points. Ker pulls Moody and Trace Jackson, who were doing insane defensively and really good offensively. They were pulled out for Curry and Green, who looked frustrated and exhausted. It makes sense, but doing that confused the Warriors defense. Curry, Green, and Chris gave easy threes. Draymond left his man open constantly. The switch broke the Warriors defense, and the Pelicans crushed them. Moody and Jackson set a tone for the defense, but Kerr crushed that with the changes. They probably blamed Klay, Chris and Wiggins for the poor numbers. (Curry too, he was missing all kinds of shots till fourth quarter...) but I think it was that change that broke their rythm on defense.

I love the kuminga praise. Well deserved. But the Warriors play a spread offense a lot. And they can’t remove Draymond due to his playmaking. So the problem isn’t kuminga skills. Having two nonshooters completely changes the offense (and this is different when it’s two non shooting bigs due to offensive rebounds, vs one non shooting big and a non shooting forward). With Kuminga on the floor it’s not the same offense at all. It disrupts the flow for Steph, Dray, and the others. And I like Kuminga, but he’s not that dominant of a scorer to change the offense to suit him. Which is why he either has to learn to effectively shoot, or just get traded to where his skillset will flourish

That Jordon Poole punch really hurt them. You had a perfect plug and play player for their current offense, but that left the moment Draymond threw that punch. Kuminga can be a spark off the bench or starter and average 22+, but not in this offense. And not if it means Steph has to adapt to a new system. Which could also render Klay completely useless. Klay can’t even keep up in an offense tailored to him and his skillset, wouldn’t want to find out what he becomes in a different offense at this point

You're wrong, first off it's not like kuminga is a terrible shooter and secondly the offense is better with kuminga on the floor regardless of who is with him. Draymond isn't a real playmaker, he has the ball because the lack of his as a threat. U would of made more sense if u said they need dray because of his defense. Also Kuminga certainly is a good enough of an offensive player to change an already poor offense for. He is our 2nd best offensive player and curry can function at a high level in any offense. Kerr should have been fired but if that's not going to happen he needs to adjust and honestly if u can't trade dray he possibly needs to come off the bench and start tjd with kuminga. Curry was wore down because besides kuminga nobody else can consistently create offense except cp3 as a playermaker but he will be gone as well

The video emphasizes Kuminga's impact on the floor. Kerr not starting JK shows his lack of trust again. He would rather want to see his team losing rather than seeing JK thriving. If he is a smart coach then he should swallow his favoritism and let the one who's doing an impact play more. He can save Klay from getting much embarrass but he didnt made any move at all.

Kuminga was actually decent from 3 prior, he had streaks where he’d be shooting 40%+ from 3 then if he missed he’d get benched then the narrative that he can’t shoot started being made to be fact by everyone including his coach. So tell me as a player who wants to improve and get minutes, tell me how you would not have second thoughts when you get the ball on 3-point line? 🤦‍♂️

Bingo.....whenever kerr actually gives him the green light to shoot kuminga starts hitting around 40 percent and his middy is smoothe. But as u said when a guy is told don't shoot certain 3s and told to just attack at all times it can seem like he can't shoot but that is far from the case.

Reality check needs to come to the Warriors that Draymond and Klay need to come off the bench. Shouldnt have paid Dray that much. He is not worth 25 million a year. Klay needs to sign for about 25 million a year.

I don’t blame Kerr for not trusting Kuminga, he’s not that good. He has tremendous athleticism but after that not a whole lot. He can’t dribble,can’t pass, can’t shoot 3’s and definitely not good when the pressure is on like a “play-in” game. We should’ve picked Franz Wagner.
