Very good! All you said was correct. Isolde dies an entirely internally motivated death, just like Tannhäuser and Elisabeth and Elsa. Wagner's big on internal states being reflected externally, kind of expressionist tbh. No need to look for a physical reason. Just like Tristan isn't actually killed by Melot's sword, but impales *himself* on it, because he and Isolde have decided to die.

It is funny you would post this now, because I happen to be writing a story at the moment where human consumerism causes humanity to loose touch of meaning and altogether to fall. I believe much of the issue with humam will is that we have a false notion that we can be fufilled by being happy. It is a shame that we have become so blind to the joy that can be found through struggling. We are all ultimately going to die and what we set as the object of our passions will be what we will die for. If we die for our own gratification, our passions, efforts, and happiness all die with us. But if we die for someone (or someone) beyond ourselves, our fire can outlive even our own lives. It is true that "Whoever wishes to gain his life, the same shall lose it. And whoever wishes to lose his life, the same shall find it." We could allow ourselves to be mindless, will-controlled zombies who seek happiness alone. Or we could allow ourselves to be heroes who will to suffer if it could be for a cause beyond ourselves.

It's a critic-invented retcon fallacy DAWN was a thesis on consumerism. George had free access to a mall from a friend. That's it. The absurdity of zombie shoppers was organic and George was always up for humour e.g. a random Tibetan Monk zombie.

Not sure I agree...George started out as a commercials director, and I think his own experiences - consciously or unconsciously -influenced the way he approached his zombie triptych, particularly this one. There may have been fortune involved in finding the mall, but the location was a marriage made in heaven for the film, text and subtext...
