Yes! She was the go-to. The only consideration to replace Julie Andrews in "the hit of the century,"MY Fair Lady. She had to be convinced, cuz let's face it, she was a STAR. They signed her father for god measure to play her father in the show. HOW I WISH THERE WAS SOME RECORDINGS OF HER RUN IN THAT SHOW! And more recordings of her in general. She sounds amazing here!

How did Hollywood miss this gem...she is really good in singing...and looks amazing too...seriously the closest to Julie Andrews in many many ways. I believe she accepted Chitty Chitty Bang Bang when Julie Andrews turned down that role. Maybe I think that her people tried to make her seem like Julie too much...and you can have only one Julie Andrews? Not sure if Hollywood had space for two. =/

She was perfect singing it but he as a barítone wasnt he right voice for Tony. She had the misfortune to be at the same time than Julie Andrews but was as talented as Julie and deserves to be better known. She is 90 years now .

I've heard a couple of light lyric baritones sing Tony's music very effectively. I'm a baritone and I've tried some of it in recital though it was tough. Howard of course was a bass-baritone, so it's not the sound we're used to in the role. Interesting to hear it from the great artist that he was, and of course from the lovely Miss Howes.
