I don't know if it means anything in this context, but also as Cathrine Parr is setting up her song, she has Joan play a "B flat major 7", which you said was part of the chord that made the wii-i-ives at the end fit- it clicked for me when you mentioned it, and i dunno if it has any meaning to this whole thing-
@HowardHoMusic2 жыл бұрын
I was wondering when someone might mention this! Do you know what a B flat major 7 is? It's a B flat major chord PLUS an A natural. I didn't include this in the video, because I'm not sure if this was intentionally to tie into Greensleeves, but it is fun to speculate. Thanks!

You’re talking about a reference to the last six notes of green sleeves. If you juxtapose the order of the fates of the wives over this reference , two of the clashing notes are over the wives who were beheaded and the last clashing is over the one who survived. Could this be intentional?
@HowardHoMusic2 жыл бұрын
Nice! I love it when someone can go even further with it.
@apurplekitkat2 жыл бұрын
Perhaps. Although each wife suffered in her own way being tied to Henry, the two who were beheaded upsettingly died at his decree. Then, you have the lucky one who got away entirely, outliving him. On top of that, I feel Anne Boleyn holds notoriety as one of the easier names to recall of his 6 wives, while Katherine Howard is recognizable for dyeing so young and, I believe, having the shortest period as Henry VIII's wife.
@SWein662 жыл бұрын
@@apurplekitkat Anne of Cleves (Anna in Six) was queen for 6 months; Jane Seymour died after 1 year and nearly 5 months; Katherine (spelled this way in Six but not in history) Howard was killed after 1 year and 6 and a half months, so she had the third-shortest time as queen. The next is Anne Boleyn, just under 3 years; then Catherine (again, how spelled in Six) Parr, 3 and a half years until Henry’s death. And, of course, Catherine (Catalina) of Aragon was queen for just shy of 24 years, until her marriage was annulled. I was curious about this a while ago so looked it all up. i LOVE how the change of greensleeves happens. I expected the writers to have them go down for it to fit over the harmony, but instead the harmony changes around them. they didn't change themselves to fit in, the context in which we see them is shifted or altered so we see/hear them how they are musically meant to be heard. like.. literally, what the show is about, US shifting OUR perspective to see the queens as THEY tell it, not just as the six wives of Henry VIII. this show just keeps getting better.

Been looking forward to your analysis of Six - such a great show. (Also hoping for the Beetlejuice musical, by the way.) Buying lordships is nonsense, though - the Court of Lord Lyon, herald for Scotland, has made it clear that such small grants of land (particularly as the plot is sponsored rather than actually purchased) is not sufficient to qualify for the conventional title of laird. It's also worth noting that a laird, while linguistically cognate, is *not* a lord and doesn't authorise anyone to claim to be one - putting it on one's passport, for instance, is technically changing one's name rather than gaining a title. It's a clever way of fundraising - essentially letting people adopt a patch of land much like one might "adopt" a penguin at a zoo - but one shouldn't believe there's any real ownership or title involved.
@opheliaclarke82642 жыл бұрын
thank you someone finally said it, maybe its just cause they seem to be the IT sponsor at the moment and everyone is talking about them but something about the obviously false rules just seemed weird to me, its essentially like those buy a star things and just as (not) valid. i wouldnt be surprised if the ads start shifting from less from 'buy a title' to being all about 'fund wildlife/habitat protection' as more people buy them and are confused why they arent a lord even though their totally real piece of paper says so

I also find it interesting with the quote from the song Six, Anne Boleyn's part. "Henry sent me a poem all about my green sleeves I changed a couple words, put it on a sick beat" showing how they change a couple notes and put a good beat on all of their songs, but they are all a variation of Greensleeves!
