This is one of the few taekwondo kicks that is a straight-leg all the way, just like those round crescent kicks (inside-outside and outside-inside). It is called "neria chagi" or "neria chaki". Sometimes it is also known as a "hammer kick", because the way the kick is done is almost like a hammer motion. The weapon of the foot used in the axe kick is the heel of the foot, and the target is usually the top of the head (or any part of the front face) or the clavicle. Since this kick is dangerous to do without head gear on the opponent you want to axe-kick to, it is best to practice this kick with the opponent with head gear. You can also practice axe kicks safely with an opponent holding a hand target glove. The exception is in situations where there is no-contact sparring, where you can do that axe kick as close as you can get to your opponent without hurting him or her.
@bonbonvrock847 жыл бұрын
the axe kick is hard to do fully if u can't stretch your leg so far up yet. That's what's stopping most beginners or those who aren't that flexible yet (therefore can't do entire splits yet) from having their kicks rise up all the way up to their heads. Imo regular stretching exercises and warm-ups are very important to properly succeed in doing the axe-kick and pretty much all other kicks in taekwondo. And if you strain the muscles behind your knees is it better to apply heating pads or cooling pads?

Wisely=never. It is the most powerful kick you can land... on someone who's already on the ground. It is a kick that is most effective in situations that cannot be called "self defense." For speed, range, power, and efficiency, no kick compares to the snap sidekick.
