Looks great! I grew up on Salmon Patties. I could eat them all day. Have you tried Salmon Wiggle? (Or called Salmon Pea Wiggle) I love that too. I ate seafood with my family every week until I was 7 when I was rushed to the hospital because I developed an allergy to seafood. So because of that my mom and grandma would make alternatives for me when they cooked seafood for the family. Of course it can't replace scallops or crab legs but salmon patties and salmon wiggle was always a favorite of mine.

I eat the whole content, bones for calcium, skin, flesh and juice for the omegas. Delicious and very heathy. Update 3/23/2022: My preference is stated above. This also applies to canned chub mackerel, herring, sardines and tuna of course. Since all of these are packed with sodium, I try to be careful with sodium intake. I also use fresh salmon and other non-canned fish such as catfish, swai, whiting, etc. I tried whole frozen sardines (about 8-9 inches long) but never again! These are WHOLE without any cleaning, scales, head, tail and NOT gutted. Plus, after all the cleaning I did, the bones, oh the bones, nightmare bones! It even has hair-size bones. I managed to get through this, and it has a moderate fish flavor, but never again! Favorite is steamed Kippers and egg-substitute, yummy!

I agree! The skin and bones actually add moisture and crunch. I take the bones out right away from the can and eat them up. High in calcium too. They r a soft crunch! Delish! They r meant to eat. Every bit of the salmon is great! I think some ppl think they r hard bones. They r pressure cooked before canned. So, they have a delightful crunch!

My mom taught me to reserve the liquid. Instead of adding another egg and more filler, she'd just add some of the liquid from the can. She also coated the patties in a light layer of yellow cornmeal just before frying. It was a breakfast dish served with grits. Leftover patties (somehow there were always 2 leftover patties) were sliced in half, heated and became two sandwiches.

They are actually a good source of calcium and you can crush the bones with your hands as you mix and form the patties!

I take left over mashed potatoes and add about 1/2-3/4 cup. The rest is mostly the same except I add more chopped onion and just one egg. I use less cornmeal than flour. Just recently learned another option which is remove about half the flour and replace with cornstarch, which makes the patties much crisper. They are just as tasty cold to me as hot.

Add egg whites for no cholesterol, add onion of your choice, some quick cooking oats for a natural binder that is so healthy for you. Leave to set five minutes. Form into patties, Brown in small amount of healthy oil on medium. The salmon is already cooked so you just need to Brown the outside and heat the inside. I make mine with potato too, mashed with a fork so it's a bit uneven and moistened with the fish juice, add salmon, splash of balsamic vinegar and salt and pepper and dried dill. I then dip in egg and breadcrumbs. I bake mine in the oven on lightly oiled tray to cut down fat. Some people like to add a few capers or chopped boiled egg. I take the bones out, because I don't like their texture, but that's part of the beauty of home cooking, you can make it how you want 👩🍳 Thank you for the video, it was interesting to see them made a different way.

My sister-in-law used to spend a small fortune buying salmon fillets for her patties. I bought three cans of wild caught salmon and showed her how to use chopped onion and an egg for each can to make a full platter for five people. By using only a fork to pulverize the steamed-soft bones everything was incorporated (even the skin) into a smooth and uniform consistency. An ice cream scoop made portioning easy. Frying them to a golden brown had them on the table and gobbled up fast!

That looks so good. I think I’m gonna make some today. I always leave the bones in because they’re soft. They taste good and they have lots of calcium. And I usually make all my patties first, so that I can put them all in the oil at the same time, and they can cook at the same pace, thanks for sharing this recipe. I’m definitely gonna try it.

Here in New Mexico they’re often served, even fast food restaurants offer them, during Lent season. Generally use bread or cracker crumbs and serve with red chilé to pour over. Delicioso 👌🏽

@@HowDoYouCookBackToBasics Wright's Cafeteria in Knoxville used to serve them and would ask if you wanted tartar sauce with them. The tartar sauce was a new one for me but once I tried it, it became a regular thing. Something my mother discovered some years ago was putting just a dollop of ketchup in hers when mixing them up. Really adds some extra flavor but careful not to overdo it -- the sugar in the ketchup will brown too quickly. Know what I'm having for supper, now -- you laid a craving on me. LOL

These are easy and awesome. I like to make mine with a generous sprinkling of garlic powder for extra flavor. Also, I like to use chopped Green onion instead of white. Both are good, but Green onions add a little color. This recipe can also be made using canned mackerel. Mackerel doesn't have many bones if any. Would love to see more easy down home recipes. Thanks!

We ate these when we were growing up but my grand mother use everything in the can (bones mash up, skin and the juices). They she would put buttermilk, eggs and flour. Put grease in the pan and fry. They were a lot of us and she would usually make busicut and gravy some scramble eggs. I still do the same thing but there is only 3 now.

Thank you. My mom made them and called them salmon croquettes. They are delicious. She added parsley. I would even eat the soft round bones and share some with our cats.
