Great video. Watching these were always the best part of teaching the S-130/190, and Refresher courses.

The first half of this video was used in an M-581 class for a session on "Dose of Reality." It was well-received by the participants.

Where was the established structure protection for this small community, before the fire storm??????

The most important thing is that no one was injured or killed. This was a volcano erupting and anyone who thinks that any action could have been taken to stop this fire is delusional. Anyone living in timber lands needs to prepare for events like this. These fires are only going to get worse.

MTroutable , your comment is contradicting. “That any action could have been taken to stop this fire is delusional”. Then you say “ these fires are only going to get worse”. Well that is obvious, but yet all the help and utilities were maxed out. It’s pretty obvious that there is an issue with funding for personnel and equipment. What should have been done is proper preparation for funding. I have no idea that a park like glacier which prints money for the government can’t get the adequate resources to put out this fire at an early stage. Watch the video again, and keep note on how many people say “we didn’t plan”.

@@pbsbigbossman5496 Yes, I understand where your coming from. Yet, is it possible, that gov't is finally listening and deciding to let these forests burn, ( yet, pretending they CAN'T control it for whatever reason?) Not due to to $, but, because Nature is finally being listened to? Who doesn't know that left on its own Nature will take care of itself, i.e. forest fires every 50-100 yrs. will clear paths for new growth while cleaning up the floor litter. It's We who get in the way of Nature, insisting on building homes in the forest, etc.

PBS read again. You miss quoted me. I worked for the feds for 10 years in this business and have a degree in this field. You are the delusional person I am speaking to.

fuel, weather, topography. which can we control? fuel. Every step to reduce the fuel load is blocked by the climate change groups. In addition, which area of the nation will benefit from the timber harvest, all the deplorable/fly over states. I'm 100% certain the climate change groups want the forest to burn big and hot; they need the devastation to bring about the change. remember the slogan, by any means necessary.

It’s nice people helping out but the guy stays behind with his wife to fight a fire with a couple 5 gallon buckets is really stupid. If you live in that area then invest in some actual equipment. If not then evacuate and don’t become a liability for firefighters having to come save your ass. Putting others peoples lives at risk for things that can be rebuilt.
