I'm not spending your money, but as this Rhino platform ages in, you may wish to look into the variety of hammer style mulchers that have widths up to 24 feet(?). They grab residue and grind it up with the top fraction of the soil, and because of the hardened hammer construction will basically bounce off of stones. The bad part is they are also PTO driven so the fuel per acre applies, so research the finish you want to achieve in your decision process and ask your service providers and manufacturers their options. You may be able to brochure something for someone.

Doesn’t mowing the stalks, just make a mat that keeps the soil cool and wet?
@keiterfarms54702 жыл бұрын
Yes it will! Especially where he lives the hardest part about no till is getting that soil temp to 50 ish degrees where corn and beans love to germinate. The best solution for them would be the devastators, It will crimp that stalk and flatteren it to the ground so micros can start decomposing it

This is why I'm a firm believer in chopping heads. Kill 2 birds with one stone takes a little horsepower but saves you fuel in the long run
@dmc37422 жыл бұрын
Looks like a lot of fuel used with little or no return. My renter no tills beans and corn thru standing corn stalks every year with no ill effects, most of it knee high. They farm over 15000 acres and if it didnt work I assure you they wouldnt do it. Does make harvested corn field look better.
@jaredmoorman13002 жыл бұрын
Agreeed better to have the stalk standing then having a thick mat of material on the ground
@mrgratitude42682 жыл бұрын
The idea is for faster decomposing of the corn stubble, not for growth of the next crop. And even dispersal of the trash will prevent weed growth.
@jaredmoorman13002 жыл бұрын
@@mrgratitude4268 the next crop is your income tho….faster decomposition doesn’t matter, it’s a wasted trip

Awesome video and your explanations are great! In regard to the talk of a second mower for the corn stalks, I have a heck of a deal for you! 1993 Honda 4518 riding mower, 48" deck. Normally it would be $25,000. However, I like you Ryan, so I'm gonna offer it to you for $24,500. You pay the shipping to get it from Virginia to Wisconsin. Let me know. (Joke). Keep up the great work! - Everett

Why not invest in a corn head that stock choppers built in like bigger farms use the money you would spend on one would be cheaper then the fuel your burning to pull a mower like your doing now...
@mrt45472 жыл бұрын
What a waste of fuel and wear on equipment. Untouched stalks are way better then a mat of chopped residue. If it is too wet to plant no-till next spring don't blame no-till, blame yourself.
