Farming, the heart and pride of America, the hard work and gratitude that farmers put into it today, plus watching this channel has shown more than just going to a farm show, it's the behind the scenes that shows the farmer's labor and want to say " Thank You!"

@@HowFarmsWork Muck soil-- essentially peat moss... super fertile but really weird soil-- it's like pudding when it's wet and like flour when it's dry, and you can get stuck up to the axles in it in EITHER condition! Best to work on when it's a happy medium, not too wet OR too dry! Got some vids of us combining corn on muck soils about 30 minutes south of there in Indiana on my channel from a few years back... when you get stuck in muck, you get REALLY stuck! Stuff can be practically bottomless-- FWIU, it's basically ancient lake-bottom deposits from the end of the last ice age... SUPER fertile, in a "normal" year you can make 300 bushel corn EASY on muck, but getting it harvested in a wet fall, that's another story... cut around the wettest areas and then go through them emptying the combine out completely after each pass, and the BIL's 9600 Deere did MUCH better than their S670's, particularly when he had a 6 row corn head on it... Them new Deere rotaries are like 10,000 lbs heavier EMPTY than a 9600, and that weight makes ALL the difference! Later! OL J R :)

Awesome video Ryan! My 5-year-old son and I really enjoy watching all of your videos, but this one is especially cool for me because I used to work on a large peppermint farm in that area about 15 years ago. The two summers that I worked there during my college years, Lawrence Bros had approximately 2000+ acres of peppermint. We would start harvesting around mid-July and it would take at least a month to do the first cutting, weather dependant. And I was told that they would come back for a partial second cutting around October. They used two MacDon swathers, followed by a pair of New Holland FP230's. All of their tractors were red. They had at least a couple dozen wagons, which they called "tubs". Their mint still had six drive-thru lanes that could handle two tubs at a time.

I never new that we grew mint? I'm up in Washington, I will have to find a way to get some video of chopping!! Do you know how I could get in contact with them? Or just with farmers in general, there are plenty in my area but being the age I am (13) most of the time on bigger operations I can't because of saftey reliability. Just finished the video..never new they made 7600 toy, I collect them and I can never find one!!

I live in Oregon and a lot of the big fields just off of I-205 between Woodburn and Eugene are mint with some alfalfa fields mixed in.
@lukestrawwalker
@lukestrawwalker 4 жыл бұрын
@@DaebakMonkey Makes sense since the machinery for harvest is the same, more or less... Well, for dry hay you'd probably want to switch to a conditioning head on the windrower for alfalfa, and for mint you want it straight cut into a windrow without being conditioned. The choppers for making alfalfa silage or cutting mint are basically the same machine. The real difference is the mint wagons designed to steam out the essential oil, that's just used for mint, and the planter to plant roots or rhizomes like he said, which I'm guessing is similar to a potato planter... I know they grow a lot of potatoes just west of my BIL's place, in just east of Winimac, Indiana. Taters are of course planted from root stock (tubers), as is sugarcane (well sugarcane is usually stems, but the same basic idea) and hybrid bermudagrass (rhizomes-- the seed is sterile). Later! OL J R :)
