that longing for a nostalgia that doesn’t exist actually can be explained by the philosophical concept of hauntology! cultural conditioning like howl’s moving castle, spirited away, etc. causes our past selves to create a future we hoped similar to them. Yet obviously it never happens, and so our present selves long and ache for the anticipated future that never happened, basically haunting us now. It’s quite interesting, and it’s a big concept around thematic music and vaporwave. I suggest you look into the concept and you can basically relate it back to anything deemed nostalgic, especially things you’ve never experienced. :)

Everyone's here talking about the OMG facts they observed in the movie/book, whilst listening to this amazing piece, so I'd like to just talk about the time when Sophie first enters the castle and Howl comes home to see her cooking, all he says is "Calcifer, you're being so obedient", with a little smirk/smile, and"who exactly are you" and Sophie says that Calcifer let her in and y'all remember how Calcifer said much before that, "Boy, I've got my doubts about her", and Calcifer also has Howl's heart right? OK so I might be wrong about this, but IT WAS HOWL'S HEART THAT LET HER IN, I'm crying !

The beauty of this is that the name of the song is “merry go round of life” it's about the ups and downs of life. And you can feel this in the way they play it. Sometimes it's happy, sometimes it's sad, sometimes playful... That's life:) It's a masterpiece.

They may be classical genre enthusiasts who don’t like how modern classical compositions go, or how instrumentals go. They’re probably angry at the lack of advanced techniques and the simplicity of the composition in contrast to pieces of the past. But they forget that sometimes, the most simple melodies speak more volumes than the most advanced piece every constructed.

This song, always gives me this overwhelming feeling, that I can’t express with words, and that kind of hurts because I can’t express the feeling which is suffocating inside of me. When I listen to this song I always imagine myself dancing in an empty ballroom with the love of my life ( like the other comments) ,laying on a couch and looking at the ceiling, perfectly still or dancing in a field of flowers alone.

The thing is, this concept is so hard to explaon to non musicians. This piece was so masterfully played and composed. The cycle of tension and release just kept going back and forth but unbeknowningly even the moments of release act as tension for the next arc. And only those who have a good ear can truly understand what i mean
