that longing for a nostalgia that doesn’t exist actually can be explained by the philosophical concept of hauntology! cultural conditioning like howl’s moving castle, spirited away, etc. causes our past selves to create a future we hoped similar to them. Yet obviously it never happens, and so our present selves long and ache for the anticipated future that never happened, basically haunting us now. It’s quite interesting, and it’s a big concept around thematic music and vaporwave. I suggest you look into the concept and you can basically relate it back to anything deemed nostalgic, especially things you’ve never experienced. :)

They may be classical genre enthusiasts who don’t like how modern classical compositions go, or how instrumentals go. They’re probably angry at the lack of advanced techniques and the simplicity of the composition in contrast to pieces of the past. But they forget that sometimes, the most simple melodies speak more volumes than the most advanced piece every constructed.
