As a newbie who was wondering, I just want to say thank you for putting this out there and taking the time

The more sides you get the more area you get. Basic geometry. An infinite number of sides (a circle) gives you the most internal area for your perimeter. Area of a circle = circumference^2 / (4*pi). Area of a square = (perimeter/4)^2. Etc.

the problem is that the entire thing is under tention between the anchor points, causing the rope to pull inwards on itself. if you had a strong/light enough material, you could make a ring and tension it like a bike spokes, but a rope perimeter would never allow for a perfect circle.

I am planimg to do a PERMANENT tree space net, but it doesn’t make sense, with the prices of these materials (high tensile/low weight), to invest on a low weight cord, to leave it there 10years… I was thinking to do a STEEL wire cable for the perimeter, and for the structural skeleton $20 amazon climbing rope (it will only see 1.5kn), and then, the sugested amazon paracord 550… Budget permamnet space/tree net… I appreciate your thoghts… Oh, I was thinking on covering the steel wire cable with a nylon skin cover, so the structural skeleton 8mm rope can be tied to…

I started making my space net a while ago. I only work on it when I have some free time. Can't wait to bring it out someday! I was thinking Colorado. I am in Kansas.

You should do a video about how much higher those forces are when the anchors are further away or when the legs are tensioned more since a tight line across a large span can generate some ridiculous forces.

How do you store a space net?
@HowNOT25 жыл бұрын
Ideally indoors in room temperature because ropes of all types will deteriorate over time if exposed to extreme temps or sunlight much faster than normal. Throw it in a box in the top of a closet or hang it on your living room wall as interactive art :)

@@HowNOT2 thanks for the reply! Should the structural rope in the center be static or would dynamic work OK?
@HowNOT25 жыл бұрын
@@scoo73r Static for sure. You won't want that stuff stretching a lot with all that paracord wrapped around it, it is more abrasion resistant and it is quite a bit stronger compared to same diameter.
@julespivet99965 жыл бұрын
Breaking strength of the paracord might be way less than 2kN with the knots ?
@ChungusDongus5 жыл бұрын
1kn would be a safe assumption with knots in the paracord. Hitches might retain a few more pounds of strength
@HowNOT25 жыл бұрын
Just went out and slacksnapped it. 1.4kn in a figure 8 and 2.2kn when clove hitched + munter like we did in this video. It was wrapped around a 5/8" diameter shackle fyi. It's all super good enough especially because it is really hard to step on just 1 strand.

I'm also pretty sure it's illegal to put up ropes like that in a public place... i can imagine what that would do to someones neck if they ran into it, because I've seen it happen
@HowNOT24 жыл бұрын
it is not illegal and very visible. It is illegal to text and walk through the park at the same time
