HOWTO: Honda PCX 125 Gearbox/Final drive oil change

Hey! This is just a quick tutorial that will help you change the gearbox/final drive oil - it's a super easy and quick job. Once you've done it once it shouldn't take more than 5 minutes the next time!
It's so quick I change it each year with my engine oil so thought I'd make a quick video.

Things you'll need for this oil change:
12mm socket (with extension bar)
10w30 MB rating 4 stroke oil (same as the engine)
Jug/clean pot to put fresh oil in to suck up with syringe
Oil pan
Container for used oil (approx 200ml capacity)
Syringe or similar to help refill oil
Time: 10 mins max
Difficulty rating: Easy
2 spare crush washers if you want - but not essential

On the Honda PCX they recommend changing the oil after 600 miles on your first oil change if its brand new. After that id say just do it every year or 2 years

For now much the oil costs you can change it as often as you feel needed. I've always changed my oil on cars and bikes every 6 months. Or half the mileage the manufacturer says. For the cost of £15 a change in happy to change it. Especially as the PCX hasn't got a proper filter.

@@jrewillis I've thought a same thing... Honda says 6000km... 0.8L+.0.125L for gears... That's one liter every 3000km... Less than 15e....

I normally change the oil every 6 months as it isn’t expensive. But at most I would do a year. For me that’s about 4,000 miles (6400km) a year.

Do you sure about the volume? Because last time I change it I put in approximately 120ml and it already coming out from the port

It depends how much you manage to drain out. Basically fill it until it starts coming out. Make sure you are on level ground too.

Hi John, I know I am late to the party. 😁 I just put a deposit down yesterday for the Pcx. These oil changes you did look easy, do these oil changes or other diy maintenance or other local non Honda garages cause a problem with the Honda guarantee. Thank you

Providing you keep receipts for what oil and filter you put in then I doubt it. You can prove you did the work. But if you are really bothered about the guarantee then you’d be best paying a garage for the period of it - but for me the bike being relatively cheap I wanted to save money where possible.

Hi John. How tall are you and how well does the PCX fit you? I'm about 6'3" with a 34" inseam thinking about getting the PCX or N-Max. First time rider.

I'm exactly (as near as makes no difference) the same height, inseam and likely weight as you (15-16 stone). I can fit comfortably on mine. I prefer a taller screen for more protection but that would happen on any bike. It's very easy to stretch out or scoot back on the seat for a bike for extra legroom especially if cruising along a dual carriageway or similar. Use the same oil as the main engine. 👍🏻

Those bolts should be tightened to 13 N-m or 10lb ft just a point 👍🏻

For how easy it is to change (and it uses the same as the main engine oil) I do it each time I change the engine oil. Easy!

Hi there, I wanted to ask for my 2011 PCX125 gear oil, Can I also use Motul 10W30 MB engine oil? As nothing is mentioned on my manual regarding gear oil or final drive oil specs !

Yeah should be fine. The engine isn’t too picky for the gear oil. As far as I know they all use the same gear oil. A quick call to your local Honda dealer might help you if you don’t want to take the chance.

It's "meant" to be every 2 years but I see no harm in each year it only takes a tiny amount of oil (the amount left over from your yearly oil change of engine oil anyway) It was shot on tripod (except the first bit) 🙈 hence why I had both hands free 👍🏼 Thanks for watching

I use a Givi s957b and I use a One plus 7T (you can Google the sizes to compare to your S9+) - it's tight on my phone so it won't fit anything bigger! Good luck!

Possibly. The manual wants 10w30. 80w90 is much thicker than that. So might not flow as well. 👍🏻

I would say max of 7k - it's only 1 litre of oil. So makes sense.

@@soublakias oh sorry. Misread your comment. I would personally just change it every time you do the main oil. It's so little oil and takes literally 30 seconds to drain and about the same to fill up. It's so simple and costs pennies to do. 👍🏻

@@soublakias given that it's job is to lubricate the gears that are constantly meshed together on the PCX and on motorcycles the gear oil and motor oil is together normally and changed at the same time I doubt it'll hurt it. Shards of metal that could be in it especially if you do high miles will hurt it more. Personally if you want a mileage then I'd do 12,000-14,000km so the equivalent of 2 years mileage roughly. Personally I have changed my car oil and motorcycle oil far more frequently than it needed to be as it costs so little and my cars and bikes have never suffered any ill effects - whereas I've had friends who have left them the 18,000km and engines haven't lasted well at all. It's a choice but mileage/service intervals are pushed much further now than they used to be as oils are better but ultimately most people use their bikes much more / drive more miles in a shorter space of time. No not bad. But for how much it costs may as well change it. Only take about 200ml of oil. Very easy to change too.
