plus she's got balls🙏 Edit; i forgot which interview, she says to follow ur curiosity, not follow ur bliss, or this or that, but if u wonder what to do creatively or what is the book u want to write, what draws ur attention? Liz is so good at ditching the non vital, we can Iocate what we're curious about, why do we have to make every thing so f'ing complicated? Liz makes it tangible , ya?

I love you Liz, you are amazing, I was married for 20 years to a man and 7 years later after I divorced him, I could never see myself in that kind of relationship with another man. I truly, through heart, I believe love has no gender,. If a love of my life, if I am ever blessed with this experience, if she is female, so be it. I have no label for myself, not lesbian nor one who has appreciation for men too which society expects this of us to be with the opposite gender. Not same gender. Anyway, I don't date, I can never see myself living with another human again, I love myself and I am good in my own skin, I don't need another human to validate me, I have always lost myself in the other person, I lose myself and I don't desire this anymore. Love my animals! Stay healthy everyone in these times we are experiencing today. Love and cyber-long distance- hugs to everyone!

At about one-hour 15 minutes, I so appreciate Gilbert's authenticity and humanity in back-tracking on that "trope" which is problematic. To the woman who asked the question, from my own experience and learning, I would like to recommend re-placing the word "love" with "value" and say, in all that you do, make sure that your choices come from a place of valuing yourself (your time, your energy, your needs etc.) and do not value somebody else more than you value yourself. You can value yourself and another person at the same time, but do not value another person at the expense of yourself.

Watched the movie years ago. It always intrigued me, so I was walking through Barnes and Noble and I seen the tenth edition and I was like okay let me read the book and see how it differs from the movie. So glad I picked up the book! Now i've been watching all the interviews and I'm blown away by what happened since the book ended. Really hope she writes a book on Rayya! I don't agree with everything in the book, but that's okay, because it challenges my own thoughts and beliefs and I think we always need a review of these from time to time!

Elizabeth, thank you from the very bottom of my being for saying you wake up thinking "Oh, f*ck, F U H C K! OMG, NOoooooo!!" because I DO TOO and it is always encouraging to know that 'others' (especially 'others' as lovely and successful and bright as your very human self) are having this response to BEING HERE. The things I do to manage that moment of transition from unconscious/sleeping to conscious BEING HERE ... ugh, Jesus. There is such deep, awful psychic pain in waking. Thankfully, it doesn't last toooooo long anymore... but having to fight ones way onto the day is so weird and such a pain ... and I wish I understood it better. Since so many admit to this these days (and really YOUNG people!!!), I have come to believe that we are all connected and psychic/sensitive ... that THAT is the energy on the planet now. And my thought is ... that COLLECTIVELY we have to heal out of separateness.

When I read, or hear your words,generous,open,honest,full of wisdom and compassion, I could literally kneel before you to express my gratitude to you for who you are, and how you touch my life every day. I live with bipolar with mixed moods,and rapid cycles, and creativity-artwork and writing are integral to who I am. Recently, my psychiatric nurse did a care plan for keeping me well,and listening to your talks,and reading your books were number one in the list of things that make me feel well. THANK YOU!💜I loved what you shared about making yourself get off the couch crying, to stand in the middle of the room on one foot,crying! It was like you were in my head!😲😊. I told my sister today that I wish I could be your friend...the truth is, I feel like you already are. Thank you Liz, for what you do for me,the world, and for the amazing woman you are. If you can't love yourself it doesn't mean you can't love other people, but I do think it impacts the quality of your love. When you love yourself you aren't afraid to do what's right rather than what's easy. You aren't afraid to speak truthfully rather than soothingly. You don't want to placate rather than be honest. Loving yourself means not allowing those you love to take advantage of that; not loving yourself enough leaves you vulnerable to loving people too much. And, yes, that is very possible. When Elizabeth ended a marriage that was just not working for her, that was self-love. Would you be able to do that without loving yourself as much as you need to?

Yvonneb2 We are all limited by our experience (examples, those who are married, those who have children, those who are stewards of children or animals through adoption, vs. those who don't have children, etc.), but I don't think there's a definitive type of unconditional love. Even among parents, you can see the difference in their level of love and commitment to their children. I've also witnessed unconditional love shown by (childless by choice) teachers to their students that could arguably be considered unconditional love.

I used to write a lot of songs, and it was always in that rapid state of mind that she talked about. But, I don't think that's a healthy state of mind, and it might be part of why she wakes up in a panic every morning. I gave up caffeine, wine, chocolate, and nuts, which stimulate the nervous system and deplete many vitamins and minerals, and changed my diet to eating a lot of meat soups and butter, which calm rapid thinking down, and the constant stream of music going through my head finally stopped-thank God! So, if she did this, she might stop waking up in a panic, believing that life is dangerous, and just be happy.

@joantendler6518
@joantendler6518 5 жыл бұрын
@@collef1136 She did say she wakes up in a panic every morning, and I don't think she was being facetious. She also said that her main job was to tend to her mental health. Creative pursuits are often therapy, and, who knows, song writing might have been helpful to me. But, the calmer state of mind that I've reached by changing my diet, like I mentioned, has been far more helpful to me than staying in my personal rapid flow of thoughts.
@collef1136

Joan Tendler I understand what you are saying. I think waking in a panic isn’t a good way to be either. My sister is a writer, I know the part she was talking about, critical and being particular vs staying in the flow, the down load so to speak. Getting in their own way.

I want to comment on perfectionism. I tried lots of ways to let it go...including Elizabeth's way. But.. alas...I ended up not even trying to create. Today I have this perception... I am perfect for all that God has prepared for me to each day...I can do all I am prepared to do. Whatever I create is perfect for what I know today. So, I can create quickly or slowly and be ok either way. I am a Communications Artist and Collage Illustrator... I can agonize over a piece... I can quickly compose some elements into a message... I can work, nap, finish Every day is unique...but perfect for me. Caveat: I have no publisher pushing me to completion. 😎

I just need to point out, as somebody who totally respects and very much enjoys what Elizabeth Gilbert brings to the world and her readers, that her use of the word "narcissist" at about 1 hour, is narcissism in it's most simplistic form and is not really a description of the disorder at all. Those who've been on the receiving end of narcissistic behavior know that it is about way more than pride and ego. It is about power, control, entitlement, manipulation and having no respect for the boundaries of others. I worry sometimes that people confuse healthy self-esteem and self-care as "narcissism" when true narcissism is destructive and harmful and also not always very obvious.

I'd heard of Eat Pray Love but not necessarily taken much notice of who the author was having exhausted a glut of self help books in my 20s 30s 40s.....only just via an interview with Russel Brand become aware of her.
