If you put the lid on the saucepan while the sugar boils, the steam created prevents crystalisation which means no extra water or pastry brush is needed. I saw this technique on Kitchen Conundrums

My idea is that putting rock candy in these bowls will look like geodes! You could add some edible glitter in the rock candy to give it a little extra magic. :P
