@@linley-jane7878 -- I think it has a stronger connotation in the U.S. and Great Britain than it has in New Zealand. I think in New Zealand, it's kind of equivalent to "Rats."

@@linley-jane7878 I had a college from northern England who spoke Geordie. She'd call little children "sweet little buggers" usually. I'm not a native speaker, but I got the impression it was never understood as an insult by any parent.

In the US Midwest we say "yeah, no." It's a way of saying "yes, I heard your request, but sorry, I just can't agree to it." I've also lived in New York, where the same thing is "f--- no!" They're a bit more direct.

something not mentioned in this video is that in New Zealand we also say stuff like "nah, yeah" or "yeah, nah, yeah" which both typically mean "Yes" lol

@@skyebates246 The general sense of it is about intensity. If a person's intensely menacing, they're a hard case. Similarly, if they're intensely funny, they're also a hard case. If someone were intensely rebellious and always getting into trouble, you might also describe them as a hard case. If someone has almost any trait to such a degree of intensity that it's noticeable and characterising, then they're a hard case.

Great video as always, but the absolutely best part is the Dad breaking character and smiling. Absolutely! When I heard it for the first couple of times, I was so offended that people would comment on my ass haha. Then I figured that it's not meant that way and was always waiting for the comparison, I remember once asking sweet as what? Sweet as sugar? (Not a native English speaker, made me doubt my language skills for a while there) :D
