I feel like people react to Hozier's lyrics the same way parents react to their children's drawings "Omg it's beautiful, what is it?"
@dogwood1783 жыл бұрын
This one is pretty ambiguous so I can excuse that inclination haha

Thats partly whats so beautiful. He intends more than one meaning.

My interpretation is that this is a love song for Ireland. And her one worthy lover is the sea

On close listening... it seems quite sad, as if it's about a woman fleeing an abusive relationship, and trying to keep it secret.
@zynxzonx55393 жыл бұрын
Ur somewhat right. The song is about Ireland and the abuse aspect of the song lies behind Ireland’s metaphorical almost toxic relationship with the sea. The lover in it being the sea and the woman described in it ireland. It’s quite beautiful and ive always loved hoziers beautiful use of metaphors
@Deus5893 жыл бұрын
@@zynxzonx5539 how is it toxic, if u dont mind me asking?
@zynxzonx55393 жыл бұрын
@@Deus589 im honestly not entirely sure as its not really discussed like what he necessarily means by it but i would assume just the violent seas against irelands shores representing how ig the sea could be seen as abusive? Honestly its pretty confusing but hey i dont live in ireland myself so i have no clue really lol.

The song is about a place not a person, the reference to bogman refers to a man found in a bog in 2003 & the lover refers to the sea
