I dunno why this rings a bell in me and makes me cry. Lately I just left a church choir. I have been constantly marginalized in this community. The church is full of hypocrites and some very judgemental people. Not that I blame them. But as I age, I start treasuring my peace of mind and put that as the priority of my life. Deep down I still love God, but it's His church that hurts!

I also withdrew from a born again church where I have been attending since I was a child. I have been an open lesbian since 2nd grade in Elementary. I have always viewed myself as a boy and even had a crush on my girl seatmate during kindergarten days. Nobody in that church forced me to attend church or be baptized as a born again christian. They were friendly, pleasing, and accepting of me. I fell in love with the characteristics, teachings, and sacrifices of Christ. But, I voluntarily withdrew from the church because I stumbled upon some teachings that contradicted who and what I truly am. I just want to live my life as genuine as I can. I'd rather lose some friends than lose myself in the process of pleasing others.

In case anyone is wondering what the song is about: It's comparing a church to a relationship and sex. In an interview with New York magazine, Hozier said: “Sexuality, and sexual orientation - regardless of orientation - is just natural. An act of sex is one of the most human things. But an organization like the church, say, through its doctrine, would undermine humanity by successfully teaching shame about sexual orientation - that it is sinful, or that it offends God. The song is about asserting yourself and reclaiming your humanity through an act of love.”

We've a lot of starving faithful That looks tasty That looks plenty This is hungry work Take me to church I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies I'll tell you my sins so you can sharpen your knife Offer me my deathless death Good God, let me give you my life Take me to church I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies I'll tell you my sins so you can sharpen your knife Offer me my deathless death Good God, let me give you my life No masters or kings when the ritual begins There is no sweeter innocence than our gentle sin In the madness and soil of that sad earthly scene Only then I am human Only then I am clean Oh, oh, Amen, Amen, Amen Take me to church I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife Offer me that deathless death Good God, let me give you my life Take me to church I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife Offer me that deathless death Good God, let me give you my life

Okay, the person who wrote this never actually said "her" or "him", I guess you guys translated his/her comment, and well, the person never actually specified a gender. The person put "su" that can be translated into English as "his or her", but in Spanish that doesn't specific gender and can be used for anyone person.

@marvincorre4783 Жыл бұрын
@@dennisebowes It calls religion out for being hypocrites. Basically, the song isn’t an attack directly to churches but it talks about how churches teaches individuals shame about homosexuality implying gay and other different orientations. The video shows 2 men in a relationship but soon to be destroyed by Christians (not sure if they are Christians but I’m just assuming).
