as someone who comes from the same town in ireland as hozier, hearing him sing in irish in this song and de selby part 1, and him referencing so many things in irish culture throughout the album makes my heart so happy. i love how connected he is to ireland. it makes me feel at home listening to his music somehow 🫶

I was in Ireland for around 3 months in 2018, I had an irish partner at the time so I was visiting, Ireland was always one of my favorite places I've got the chance if visiting, stunning place and awesome people, I also on a freak side note was there the same time hozier was, we took pictures of the same exact cloud, come to find out he was recording wasteland, few days after I left there was a show in Dublin, so close yet so far away 😅, I still have friends in Ireland so cant wait to revisit, so much yet to see and learn

man... did hozier know that this is my first winter away from my family? that this is the first time i've lived in a sub-tropical environment since i was 6? that i've been struggling with seasonal depression even despite the relief of independence and my improving relationship with my family? did he know that i miss my younger sibling so much and worry about them coming out as trans to my parents? that the autumn in this city is the most beautiful thing i've ever seen? did he know?

I worry about my young sibling declaring to our parents that he'll be a successful, happy and healthy person who will choose to focus on solving real issues to the best of his ability. I will then take credit because I've been grooming him to be a sensible well adjusted male who will achieve any goal he sets forward for himself, but never to better himself because a pure soul is unconcerned by it's own wants, instead it will always without fail suffer a thousand metaphoric deaths to provide a stranger will even a chance of life they never allowed themselves to dream of.

Lyrics: A joy, hard learned in winter was the warming of the bed You'd shake for minutes there and move your legs Wrap the blanket over you and keep your head within Let your breath heat the air until you'd feel it getting thin "Uiscefhuaraithe" The feel of coldness only water brings There are some things that no one teaches you, love That come natural as a dream, you didn't know that you were in And darlin', all my dreamin' Is only put to shame And darlin', all my dreamin' Has only been given a name But it came easy, darlin' As natural as another leg around you in the bed frame In summer's heat, I learned to dread, the comin' of the night The awful things we do to make the head go quiet You'd press your body to the concrete when you were small The rains of winter seemed to never leave the walls "Uiscefhuaraithe" The feel of coolness only water brings There are some things that no one teaches you, love That God in his awful wisdom first programs in But darlin', all my dreamin' Is only been put to shame And darlin', all my dreamin' Has only been given a name But it happened easy, darlin' As natural as another leg around you in the bed And I wish I could say That the river of my arms have found the ocean And I wish I could say the cold lake water of my heart Christ, it's boilin' over But it happened easy, darlin' Natural as another leg around you in the bed frame
