He only very briefly touches the grand apex of the song (at 3:13). It comes on so slowly and he only addresses it for one line of one verse, then goes back down slower. It's like he knows only touching the climax of the song so briefly makes the moment special, rather than dwelling there and rinsing the riff until you get numb to it.
