This song has always had an air of quiet composure, mixed with sinister, even murderous undertones. Even the title befits the way the song is structured It peaks your curiosity, and makes you just a little bit uncomfortable, as all great art should. Hozier and Shawn James are changing the game, and so many people are barely even noticing (except for Take Me to Church and Through The Valley which both got A LOT of attention)

He only very briefly touches the grand apex of the song (at 3:13). It comes on so slowly and he only addresses it for one line of one verse, then goes back down slower. It's like he knows only touching the climax of the song so briefly makes the moment special, rather than dwelling there and rinsing the riff until you get numb to it. Still I would love to have heard more of it.

My dreams, the place I have to reach. My demons are the part of me that rages against the dying of the light. While I can’t let myself lose control, I can’t lie down. Not yet. Not yet... I will never lie down. Not until I reach the end of this long road ahead of me. I will never lose the fire in my heart. It’s all I have. Now c’mon demons, let’s show the world we won’t be tamed, even if we can’t break free of this leash.

Masterful in EVERY way! Somehow it feels so mellow and calming, a couple pops of metal riffs to grab your attention back, then the lyrics grab you like a jockstrap full of fish hooks and won't let go! This is pure talent and PERSONAL enjoyment we're seeing here. The almost scary part? This is his COMFORT zone. None of this is a challenge to him vocally... When he finally cuts that power he's holding back loose, they may have to scrape all of us off the floor -- again! ❤🔥

[Humming] When I was a child, I heard voices... Some would sing and some would scream You soon find you have few choices... I learned the voices died with me When I was a child, I'd sit for hours Staring into open flame Something in it had a power, Could barely tear my eyes away All you have is your fire... And the place you need to reach - Don't you ever tame your demons But always keep 'em on a leash [Humming] When I was 16, my senses fooled me Thought gasoline was on my clothes I knew that something would always rule me... I knew the scent was mine alone All you have is your fire And the place you need to reach Don't you ever tame your demons But always keep 'em on a leash When I was a man I thought it ended When I knew love's perfect ache But my peace has always depended On all the ashes in my wake All you have is your fire, And the place you need to reach Don't you ever tame your demons, But always keep 'em on a leash...

People seek warmth and the companionship of friendship to be motivated by someone to help... also to be thankful of help from a friend you can trust.

Just found this song last week... shortly after finding it, it seems to have found a direct path to my soul. I just had this on loop for about an hour and got one of the most intense training sessions I ever had in...crazy as hell.

I was just diagnosed as having Pyromania... This is the soundtrack to my life. I just did a year bid in prison for Arson. These lyrics...they touch me in a place so deep that I didn't even want to acknowledge it. Right in the FEELS man.

Song after song, Hozier writes lyrics that I want to tattoo on my arm. They are so deep and meaningful, and hold a strength I have not felt with any other artist, thank you so much for sharing your art with the world

I've been diagnosed with ASPD and this very relatable almost in a literal way. I remember just being entranced by it's destructive power, and it's complete radiant beauty. There's nothing else like it in all the world. The way it warps and flickers. Absolutely captivating.

As a demon who really hated leashes: let me assure you he’s wrong. We are so grateful to have the leash removed, we’d do almost anything you don’t ask. And we won’t forget an act of kindness like that. We’re forever loyal to anyone who would be so generous. And that you can trust.
