This is a teardown and explanation video of both units as I explore them. I will make a part 2 of each unit to do further testing sometime in the future at my bench. Special thanks to my friend Bert for providing me with these units.

@6:00 also replace the IEC input socket assembly, there are more capacitors inside there that explode too, I caught it on video once when a doing a repair. the smoke from that filter blowing up absolutely stinks, my lab smelt bad for 2 weeks !

Just for emphasis, for those that do not know... The cracked capacitor is a RIFA brand. These caps have a notorious reputation for being literal time bombs. They do much damage, when they go off. They are a replace-on-site component. They are found in all brands of high quality equipment, from this era. Interestingly, they are still produced. I understand that their epoxy coating has been reformulated and that cracking is no longer an issue. However, I still can't warm up to the idea of using them... I recommend that everyone do some research on them. You will quickly understand what all the clamor is about.

I have a similar HP with a cracked paper capacitor. Did you find a part and can you provide a link?

@@Adam.Videos great! I'm looking forward to part 2. I got mine from my father's estate so I'm hoping this is all I need to get it up and running so I can sell it.
