HP Envy x360: how to turn it on when it's on tablet mode? (Very simple!)

The problem is that it cannot be woken up when it is folded. Of course, unfolding it works. But that is not the question. How do you wake it from sleep/hibernate when in tablet mode without opening it. Ug, nice try, but the problem exists, mostly. I did find one thing that works in the comments section. When in Sleep Mode and folded as a tablet my machine will wake if the screen is tapped 2 or more time quickly-- but this does not work when folded and in Hibernate Mode. The answer, if HP is listening, is to make just a simple long-press keyboard combination, because the keyboard/machine is nominally awake when in Sleep Mode as the power light is blinking-- so a long press on power+delete+escape would be easy to trigger without having to move the table much. Just an idea. I like to use Hibernate more often than Sleep as Hibernate saves more power than Sleep, and (with SSD) Hibernate wakes almost as fast as Sleep-- but I will switch everything to use Sleep and then the "double tap the screen to wake will work when folded as a tablet" will work fine. I discovered the method and it is as simple as just sliding your finger on the screen like unlocking a cell phone 5 times in a row on the same surface of the screen or just hit 5 time fast-double-touch into the screen.

I cannot believe it. And my thoughts were like yours. I had to trick the laptop into thinking it was in laptop mode (with a cracked screen and broken hinge) I have two papers due, overdue yesterday and have NOT been able to get to them. I didn't open 45 degrees from back, but did do about 195° from your starting tablet angle, moved the hinge back with two hands, its dangerous and VOILA! Grateful for the tip.

Yeah, it's unbelievable. I was very happy with my new laptop... I bought it to use it a lot as a tablet, but after a couple of days, having to flip the keyboard back so many times was very annoying, so much that I regretted buying it. Luckily I found these workarounds. I can just leave it on tent position on my desk and the power button will always work to turn it on. Do all the methods work for your model?

For the Spectre, placing your finger on the in built fingerprint sensor works.

It's unbelievable. It's a beautiful laptop... but I wouldn't have bought it if I knew this simple problem is so inconvenient when using it as a tablet.

My Hp envy x360 ay1001au can be put to sleep mode simply by sliding the magnetized part of the pen around the hinges, and turned back on using the same method. it was a pen given with the laptop though, so i’m not sure if it will work using third party pens. feels like it should work because i think it’s only behaving that way because of the magnets messing with the sensors. so i’m not sure if i recommend this method because i myself am scared to use it just in case if i were to ruin the sensors or whatnot because of it😭

unfortunately only have an non bluetooth pen, thats so dumb. I thought I found a windows "wake on touch" setting in windows 11, but hp seems to not support it

Read the description of the video: a user says that a mini USB fingerprint reader worked for waking up from tablet mode. It's one more option... It's cheaper than buying a bluetooth pen, but I have no idea whether it's going to work. If you try your luck, let us know. Other users reported they could wake up just by placing and moving the pen near the hinges or the HP logo. This doesn't work for me at all. Does it work for you?

@@edosilva4173 I dont exactly know what to do with the pen between the hinges.But it dient work for now. I've now running a remote Mouse app to wake up via Smartphone.But Maybe that costs just more battery as the sleep mode Safes. If you come up with some better idea, I'd ne happy to hear about.

I also also observed that from shut down, you have to open the screen to 45, but the I also had to bring the keyboard section into an upright position. It wouldn't work by keeping the keyboard facing down. I have mine connected to 2 monitors, and I like to keep the keyboard section folded back, but then as you know, you can't boot up from that position. So, after trying your method, I also observed the second step of turning the whole unit so that the keyboard is facing me, and then I can return it to facing down on the desktop and have 3 screens available

Yeah, I've seen some people saying they had to put the keyboard into an upright position or other positions to turn it on. Mine will turn on at any position as long as I raise the screen at 45 degrees. Sometimes it doesn't work, I have to close, open it and find the right angle until it turns on. It's a great computer, but this is annoying... I'm also worried about the hinges, so many complaints. I kind of regret not having bought a Surface Pro, it was first on my list, but I decided to go with the HP Envy because I could get double the specs for the same price...

Thanks a lot. Mine turns on frpm sleep mode(when in tablet mode) when I touch the screen of the laptop with the pen provided.

Just tap the screen twice it should turn on if in sleep mode But don’t do it too softly it won’t work

Several taps work for me. Thank you, yours is the best solution for me so far. Thank you. Note that it takes the HP Envy 360 a few seconds to fully enter Sleep Mode, as evidenced by watching the keyboard lights as it goes to Sleep so if it is not fully in Sleep (but rather just going to Sleep) the wake-by-tap/swipe may not work until it is fully asleep.

My laptop is as yours but my keyboard doesnt work , but after 4-5 times of restarting the laptop the keyboard works !!! How can i disable the locking of keyboard in tablet mode??? Or is there an other solution for this problem??

You can't disable the locking of the keyboard in tablet mode (at least not easily, I've seen some people trying to mess up with the BIOS, drivers and things like that, but I don't think they were successful). You can follow one of the methods shown in the video.

I just got the HP ENVY x360 3 days ago and now the computer turned black, I rebooted it amd at first I though I fixed it but now the lap starts turning black and kinda reseting, I cant see the bar and randomly it appears, when I restart it appears “CMOS checksum is invalid” could changing the battery of the CMUS help?

I have an old Surface 3 (2015). Luckily my old Surface pen is compatible with this HP model, so I didn't have to buy a new pen. There is another video in my channel showing the pen. Did the methods I showed in this video to turn on the device work for your model?

I don't remember. It was a long time ago and I only kept the Yoga for a few days, it came with a defect with the note-taking with the pen.

My HP Envy x360 ay-0003nd seems to have a faulty sensor to detect the angle of the keyboard and screen. From time to time when using the device as a laptop, it will randomly turn off the keyboard, touchpad and everything. Most annoyingly, it then also does not turn on if you want to start using it. HP decided to replace the keyboard, which obvisouly didnt fix it. So we will have to go for another service round... Yay!

Check consumer laws in your country. So it's going to assistance for the second time, right? In some countries, if it goes to assistance more than 3 times under warranty, you can ask for a refund or substitution. With an old laptop I had, I didn't know that... it went to assistance numerous times, and they never told me I had the right for a refund... When I took it to assistance again for like the 5th time, I found out the warranty was expired, and I would have to pay... then the assistance told me (too late): "You could have asked for a refund after the 3rd time, but you didn't ask... so you have no more rights now". I was so angry he didn't tell me that before, it was always the same technician.

i'm lucky to not have this problem as my Envy x360 has the button on the side (2019 cp0xxx) however my problem is much much more annoying and frusttating as my keyboard is disabling on orientations it should be on (clamshell position) i have to tilt the base about 45 degrees for it no enable, i can use a keyboard however i use it for university, and bringing a keyboard there isn't really convinient. on another note i've notice the hidges are pretty reliable, before i used the same laptop for gaming i would tilt it upsidedown to improve cooling and been doing this for atleast twice a week for 3 years and they are still pretty solid. (of course during that time i used a keyboard to operate the laptop). If anyone know how to forcibly enable or calibrate the orientation sensor on the ENVY x360 cp0xxx i'd be really happy so i can use my laptop how it should. thanks!

Did you noticed that the touch screen gets heated once we turn it into TABLET MODE! As the air vents are behind. Shall i use my x360 in tablet mode or not??

I've seen tech youtubers saying it's normal for 2-in-1s to get hot more than regular tablets. But mine doesn't get that hot, maybe because I don't live in a very hot climate. But if I use my computer outside on a hot day, even in the shade, it gets very hot, I have to turn it off.

The fans rev up a bit in tablet mode to compensate for reduced airflow. The CPU power is also reduced slightly (i believe max 12w). The fans also run slow when the machine is cool to ensure the screen doesn't get too warm (would be uncomfortable to write on) As long as your fans are not full of dust, it is fine.

It’s obviously a safety function… why would you want your buttons to function in a closed tablet mode but I agree there should be a power button on the device’s side or edge.

My HP Envy randomly switches to tablet mode when I open it, and the only way I find to switch it back to desktop mode is restarting it. I looked for instructions on this over and over on how to prevent this, and the only one I see is to go to the start menu and system settings, to scroll down to "tablet mode". Unfortunately, I do not see this setting where it should be, and when I search on the start system for "tablet mode", nothing comes up but touch screen pad settings options. Very frustrating, but thankfully it only takes less than a minute to restart. I don't know if anyone else has figured this issue out or not, so I wanted to share my comment here. And help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I have an HP Envy and have run into the exact same problem. When it happens, I just turned the laptop to tablet mode, then switch it back to comp mode, that usually works.

Yooo I figured out that if I change the resolution to the recommended resolution (through display settings) it reverts back to desktop mode. hope this helps.

You have to go to settings, bluetooth and pair your pen. If your pen is not connected to your computer's bluetooth, it won't work. Or try to assign different functions for the pen buttons in the settings (usually they have the options like "open OneNote", screenshot, etc.) and see if that works to wake it up. Saying "hey, Cortana" should also work if you have it enabled.

@@AussieAudiofan2000 The pen and other bluetooth devices will only activate the laptop if the screen is "turned off", not when the laptop is sleeping, as I showed 3:53. You have to go to settings > Power and Battery and increase the time "put my device to sleep after" (I put 3 hours, so when I come back after a long break, I can activate it). I set "turn off my screen after" 10 minutes. You should try other bluetooth devices, like a keyboard or mouse. If they work, it means the issue is with the pen... you should try unpairing it, pair again, different settings... If nothing works, try restarting, updating... Any modern computer should turn on the screen via bluetooth, so your model should work too.

I have a HP X360 13 with the pen that came With the laptop but nothing works. I tried the pen but it doesn't work with Bluetooth, I tried tapping on the screen and nothing 😥😥

Did you go to settings to make sure your computer is not sleeping? As shown at 3:52, turning on the screen via bluetooth will only work if the screen is only off, but not if the computer is sleeping. So you have to go to settings to increase the time. You also have to pair the pen to the computer in the settings. That is, you have to go to bluetooth settings and connect the pen. Even if the pen writes without needing to pair, it won't activate the screen if you don't pair.

Have you answered me? I can see "2 replies" here, but only one comment is showing. KZbin is automatically deleting a lot of comments, only you can see, but other people can't (shadow ban). They must have some stupid spam filter which filters everything. Try to comment with other words and few words.
