This worked for me !!! It took about 5 minutes. I gave it a try because a new replacement part costs more than I paid for the whole printer 5 years ago. It was either going to work, or I was going to be printer shopping tonight.

I followed the video but also added an extra step. Inside the printer body, where the printhead's 40 copper contact pads (2:00) make electrical contact with the printhead carriage (1:28 & 5:34), lightly sand those contact points as well with fine emery cloth. (It doesn't have to be a rubber eraser, just make those contacts shine). This resolved my problem of the printer not finding the printhead. Also, you'll need a set of Torx screwdrivers (#T6 and T9 orT10) to remove the printhead screws. Got mine at Walmart in the auto parts section. Better than scrapping the printer.

It's a shit design, one made to fail as the print head moves around it creates vibration and the contacts and pins get hammered. The hell with HP. I have used the same Canon MP490 for 15 years and never had one single issue, only ink replacement. HP, Go get stuffed.

Dang, after reading the comments and having high hopes, I tried this. Just caution, those little springs fall out easily, and I almost lost one. Also the floodgates of reservoir ink came out once I unscrewed the back. Maybe I didn't have the correct eraser, I used a pink one, but when I plugged everything back in and screwed everything back together, I still got the error message. 😭

I did not go through the unscrewing of the printhead. I only erased the back of the printhead with an eraser from a stencil I had and the crazy message went away. Wow, I was on the phone with HP earlier today and the tech told me to just buy another printer. I paid over $100 for the 8710 that I didn't even have for 3 years. On top of that, I only printed about 500 copies. Never had an ink refill. This seems to be some type of racket by HP. But I'll never buy another one. For now, I have my handy eraser!!!

I was so hopeful this would work. When I flipped the circuit board down, the little copper pads had circular divots in them from the springs. I did clear off some greenish residue, some looked and felt plastic and some was more like oxidation, but the circular marks would not budge. I think we've had it for about a decade so I guess we got a good run out of it, given how printers are made. Still, sad face.

So I have the 8620 with the same problem. No matter what I did I'd get the same error "not detected or faulty print head" This messege showed up when I bought and installed brand new OEM color and black cartridges from HP! Previous to the HP OEM cartridge purchase I used aftermarket Smart Ink cartridges that DID WORK but had quality issues. So after doing a little research on this error I unplugged the printer for ten minutes as recommended. This was suppose to clear the memory data of the ink cartridges. It didn't work. My printer is on my network so I found the printers I.P. address under Setup/Network Setup/Wireless settings/View Wireless Details. I then put the I.P. address into the browser on my computer. On that page click Settings/Preferences/Anonymous Usage Information Storage SET IT TO OFF ! ! ! I believe that solved the problem. The printer was evidently using online information from HP that would cause the Print Head/Cartridge error..... While you are on that page also turn off Preference/HP Cartridge Protection..... Additionally I believe to clear the Print Head or Cartridge data the line cord should be unplugged for hours. Not ten minutes. Hope this helps. It solved my problem.

After taking the printhead apart, I could see that your method would not work because one of the contacts was rubbed down by the spring and I since I do not have the tools to repair the contact, I ordered a new printhead. Since I have one extra set of ink cartridge refills sitting around, it is cheaper to get the new printhead than buy a new printer.
@lynniespringer1705
@lynniespringer1705 3 жыл бұрын
The printhead I saw was $178. That is ridiculous for a lousy piece of plastic. I had issues with HPs and their printer going to sleep- That was horrible... could not get them out of the sleep mode. Now, this. I have an Epson w/ messed printheads, too. I guess I will be forced back to Brother- I had printhead issues with them 18 yrs ago when I used ink from Walmart that probably had been sitting there a few years. Too bad no one makes a better computer for the home market that will last 5 years. Now, with the pandemic, the cost of ink is through the roof. HP made their mistake by merging with Compaq. Compaq was shitty back then. I knew lots of people that worked at the Houston location. I do not they speaking highly of their products. Compaq sucked the life out of HP. Guess HP was too dumb to realize it
@UniverseSinking2011
@UniverseSinking2011 2 жыл бұрын
That's what I ran into as well. The springs had left noticeable marks on the contacts and they could not be rubbed off. I also have a stock of cartridges for up to several refills -- a couple hundred bucks worth. And my printer, if I replaced the same one, would cost over a thousand bucks. So I ordered a new print head. Much cheaper than a new printer of the same quality if the new print head fixes things.

I tried all this but no luck. I went to the hidden system menu and did a soft reset (or something like this, less than the half hard reset), after that the message is still there but now with the 0xc19a0003 code. What I discovered is that the carrier itself has good contact, the printer can read the ink levels. So it seems it's something related specifically to the printhead or its flexible fat cable.

My printer is also only about 2 years old and keeps telling me error on new cartridges even though I bought 2 brand new sets thinking it was the first new set. I spent thousands on new cartridges which is literally the price of a new printer. I will never buy a HP or Cannon printer ever again. They want to dominate ink consumption usage by forcing people to only use original cartridges by way of being too smart for their pants. Soon they will be out of the market by trying to be too clever. Bad thinking on their part and time will tell and make the difference. Way to go now is ink tank Brother or Epson. You won't look back.
