I was in the market for a second laptop primarily for gaming. The large 16 inch gaming bricks with heavy power supplies and gawdy aesthetics just didn't appeal to me. But the HP Omen Transcend 14 checked all the boxes for me. I have had mine now for almost 4 weeks and I absolutely love it! I actually work on it more than game and prefer it to my HP Dragonfly G4 due to the OLED screen. And I have had a great time playing Helldivers 2 on it! Just play it in 1920x1200 and it is plenty fast, no lag. Best of all, it fits in the same laptop bag as my Dragonfly and they can be charged with the same Ugreen 140W USB-C charger. I'm not having any issues with screen flex. Chassis seems plenty sturdy to me even when gaming.

This could have been a good , more spicy alternative to Dell XPS lineup if they had fixed the build quality, fan noise and finally pricing. WHile the performance isn't upto the price, it is probably better, consistent than XPS.
@houssamalucad7538 ай бұрын
The 2024 G14/G16 are the new and improved XPS. Dell dropped the ball, and HP made a good cheaper laptop but one that isn't quite as good as the new G14. If you don't want a macbook and have the money for it, Asus is your best bet. (Lenovo are doing some cool things too, but their lineup is a bit confusing)
@keerthan75588 ай бұрын
@@houssamalucad753 i wouldn't say they are improved. Thermals and fan noise is pretty bad on both.( not as bad as dell) Asus has lot of QC issues too
@houssamalucad7538 ай бұрын
@@keerthan7558 But the Asus software is much more flexible than the Dell, you can choose to either prioritize lower heat or lower fan noise depending on what's more important to you, if you throttle the GPU and CPU to the same wattage as the XPS I bet it will be quitter AND cooler due to the more robust cooling solution made to handle an 80w GPU (not 30 like the XPS), not to mention that AMD CPUs run cooler (core ultra CPUs are disappointing irl). It's just a better laptop in every single way. I hear Lenovo's new laptops are great as well, can't wait to see the detailed reviews on them, their QC should be miles better than both Asus and Dell too.

I was eyeing this seriously when it was on sale for I've $1200, but after seeing one in person at Best buy, I knew it was not for me. Build quality and design, particularly with the palm rest decal and white let borders, looked downright cheap compared to the G14/16. Still, a great overall laptop -- just not as good as the G14 for me

@Havanu819 ай бұрын
Or a G14. Or a zenbook pro 14. Or a Legion 14 inch OLED. Everyone jumped on the thin and light 14 inch bandwagon this year with the low power RTX series, cpu chips, and those incredible 14 inch 2.8k screens that are now ubiquitous.

Yeah, the overall landscape of these do-it-all 14" gaming/performance/creator notebooks is offering a lot, and the actual differences are all very minor. We have reviews about almost all of them, so you should easily be able to narrow it down, depending on what you are looking for!
@Burbanana9 ай бұрын
@@Havanu81 yeah and this omen tries to be everything but eventually is nothing. It is a gaming line but it can't do that properly, if I want a gaming laptop I don't want to spend 2K for a half-RTX. Like you mentioned, plenty of fish in the sea but I think especially price-wise and quality-wise, if I wanna be a creator nd game on the side: Yoga. Otherwise, legion line is so great right now, you can get an amazing Legion 5 16 for about 1500-1600 euros where Im from. Thats the latest specs. Not to mention Yogas come with 80-100W GPUs and stay silent. Im still looking for a not too heavy, preferably 16 inch and preferably no numpad laptop that has a clear display for casual software projects and light gaming on the side. I only see the Spectre 16 right now and I have tried the new Zenbook 14 recently (CU9 32GB), not sure if OLED is that great for anything other than videos. I just got a last gen Yoga Pro 7 14 in with 7840HS and its 2k IPS matte display somehow looks so much more clear. Finding a good touchpad is tough tho, the Yoga PRo 9 2024 I tried is amazing but too pricey.

@@NotebookcheckReviews I really love and prefer your detailed reviews on the website but I have 1 critical feedback (imo): Most of your (recent?) laptop reviews end up with a rating between 85% and 90%, so it is hard to differentiate what is really a good overall laptop and what is not. In my book those ratings are all excellent. Could you make it more 'critical' in the overall rating? I tested the new Zenbook myself and I think its a 75% laptop for example.

Whoa, that display lid when you were pressing on it! o_O I feel there are drawbacks to choosing whichever 14 inch laptop. I'm currently in the UK and Asus' pricing here is ridiculous. I also have had issues using Asus laptops, mainly with battery swelling. I am considering Razer blade 14, but hesitant to pull the trigger due to the complaints about spicy pillow batteries and questionable customer service. Omen I would consider, but the hinge and the flexible lid are giving me cold feet.
@NotebookcheckReviews9 ай бұрын
It looks much worse than it is in real life, to be honest. I honestly did not even notice until I did this particular shot, and I had it with me for a couple of weeks, even while traveling. I would say the hinge is almost on par with the G14, while the Blade is much stiffer. I think the battery problems and customer service issues are a thing of the past for razer. We did a customer service satisfaction thing on the German site, and from all the "gaming brands", Razer actually came out on top!
