My X576 looked like it had 5lbs of ink in it. Hopefully i dont have a burnt out printhead or something, ugh. Magenta is totally missing on the left side - others online have said they have this problem and HP just shrugs when its asked.

My HP Officejet Pro X576 DW had lingered without a cyan and black cartridge for over 2 years. During that time it was used for scanning only. When I installed new cartridges today black was not printing at all. I followed your advice and now my printer works great. Thank you very much!!

This video helped me greatly. I was unable to get anywhere with HP and was just digging around to see if anyone else as having the same issue. Not only did it fix my issue, it helped me learn how to troubleshoot the printer further than HP was able to instruct. The cleaning of the tray worked as well as the cleaning instructions given over the phone. I called and spoke to Dan and he walked me through the steps necessary to fix my issue. He also shared some helpful hints and websites where to order additional parts for this printer. We even had a follow-up call the following day. Thank for the help.

Great video as this is never mentioned by HP on their website under troubleshooting. My X476dw was replaced by HP under warranty with a refurbished unit. The print quality degraded after 5 months of low use. I removed the waste ink tray and to my surprise it was all gooped up and had a tom of waste ink on the roller and in the tray. I flushed the tray under warm water for about 5 minutes to get the buildup off the roller and tray and now the printer is working great. Thanks for the great tutorial!

Wow! I've had this printer for years now and got a C18a000a error. Researching, I found this; and had no clue that this tray was so excessively full. Tbd if this is the complete solution to my error while everything is drying out, but l Iove the straightforward transparency from your experience, (namely speaking hosting out the tray won't damage it). These guys know what they are doing. I sent them a print report and they called right away and talked to me about my issues. It turns out that it is VERY important to use HP ink in this printer. HP does not tell you a lot of things that could go wrong if you do. If you have any issues with this type of printer, call these guys and they will be able to explain a lot of the do's and don'ts before you ruin your printer completely.

Thanks Chad! Just to clarify, the ink being used seemed to be Dye based. It's very important to use pigment based ink(s) and to confirm the quality is from a good source / reputable provider.

Hey Chad, just an additional note. Our company only uses HP original ink in our cartridges. There are some good third party inks on the market, but you really must do your research and not just by from the lowest price on Ebay. Some of these sellers, just put whatever ink they have into the cartridge.

I folded a water soaked paper towel and laid it under the print head on a folded sheet of dry printer paper. Then I closed the print head and reinstalled the waste ink bin and closed the printer with the power cord removed. Did this about 10 times to fix a blank streak running down the center of printed pages on a 476dw. Wiped print head dry and allowed printer to dry out a few minutes. Printed flawlessly without another head cleaning or recovery. Dry ink clog on the head caused blank or white streaks on printed pages.

The printer has to be on, when you open the side tray. That will lower the print head. If the printer is off, the heads will not be accessible. I bought an open box printer from Staples, it was missing the black ink. And after getting black ink, it would not print black on 90% of the page. I had to clean the heads a lot and use the recover printhead option from the service menu. It uses about 150 pages of each ink, each time and I had to run it probably 20+ times(had to buy new inks and use half of it too). I couldnt find a way to just clean black. There is a ton of waste in my waste tray, but I am glad to have a working printer.

The quality issues you are having can depend on a couple of factors: You should also try doing a printhead recover from the support menu - kzbin.info/www/bejne/f3vcn5V6i5KNiZI If that also fails, you can call and I will explain how to manually clean the print-heads. 1-866-INK-BAGS Further Notes: 1.. Its extremely important that you use inkjet paper in this printer. Ideally 24lbs ColorLok paper. If you use copier or laser paper, you will end up with quality issues. The waste ink (duplex tray) will clog from too much excess ink. 2. Do not use third party poor quality Inks or compatible cartridges. We have tested them all major suppliers and found they gave us some initial success but eventually caused problems. We only use OEM cartridges to deliver ink and have specifically sourced / formulated ink guaranteed NOT to damage your printhead. (this is not a lie or marketing hype)

Your welcome. Keep in mind it sometimes takes up 20 recoveries. Between each recovery print a "print quality report" and see if any improvements. If no improvements after 20 attempts, it's most likely a burnt our printhead. Only use high quality pigmented black and color inks. Good luck!

I've been trying to post here. Cleaned the tray fine (WOW was it deep black ink -- I print mostly B&W.) Saw about cleaning the heads; did that. Now I have a number of dropped lines towards the black where it was fine before. Where do I upload that print quality report, and how can I discuss it with you? I tried twice sending a message through your web site; no response so far. One last week, one yesterday. I hope I didn't break my printer. I also couldn't find new print heads at HP or elsewhere -- it originally was a maintenance item. I can give more details if I'm able to reach someone. WOW, last week I kept failing to post, now it goes right up. I'll take it and I hope Ink bags gets back to me.

Lets hope this works. ive got a in still very good shape x567 today and its not printing at all. The tray was globbed up but surprisingly the printhead appeared to be totally clean. also inks are more than 3/4 full and seem to release just fine. god I hope I can get this thing to work. ink alone is worth over $300 and I paid $35 for the printer. Also got a wifi connection issue. it wont connect to my router but will connect to my phone hotspot. no idea why its doing that.

Hi Ink Bags, We have tried the items in your video but our black cartridge is still not working. Lots of gaps in the print quality report. Also, we noticed the sponges on our waste tray are super saturated and the roller bar is not evenly saturated (missing areas). Is it possible to just replace the waste tray (or sponges)?

Fyi, the printerhead retracts after about 5 minutes of the side tray being open... Wasted 45 minutes looking for it before I gave up closed it and heard the printerhead shift back into position... The heads are located just above and in front of the big gray roller. For those who don't know what the heads look like, It's pretty unmistakable alternating 1 inch long 0.25 wide heads with bands of color running through each.

My duplex module is caked with ink. Just gobs and gobs of it. I tried washing it like you said and can only get it so clean. The think is heavy with ink. I cleaned the print head and I’m still getting about a 1” blank line down the left side of everything I print or copy. Would replacing the duplex module help?

You can put alcohol to clean the rubber pick-up mechanism or replace it. These printers are not made to last, especially the internal paper handling

I don't know if you are still commenting on this video but I have tried manually cleaning the waste tray and the printheads along with several recoveries and cleanings through the menus. Printhead 1 and 0 won't print yellow or magenta at all. Any ideas? I'm thinking maybe it is mechanical because when I gently press on the print heads 1 and 0 no yellow or magenta show up on the cloth. We have the x551dw

Hi Ink bags I have to say your video is great keep it up. I was wondering if you could help me my printer is locked with error code 0xc6fd0202 it says printhead appears to be missing, not detected, or incorrectly installed. It won't even let me turn off the unit. I have cleaned the tray and cleaned the printhead. The tray had some pudding like ink in it. I have another on order as well. The printhead was dirty, it took like three or four wipe downs to get it clean. I believe I am ready to rock and roll but the screen is locked up. Is there a way to reset it. Please help me.

Hi. Great video but my Officejet pro x576dw has started randomly displaying a white screen flashing all the buttons with a message saying turn off the printer and turn it on again I can find no diagnosis of what problem this is and wondered if you could help as HP just tell me to buy a new printer!

The only think that could work is a hard reset from the support menu. Not sure what else to try. These machines are only designed to make it past the warranty date.

Yes, feel free to email us a copy of your print report to: info@adaptiveink.com It is normal for it to be worse after cleaning, because some water is still probably present. Takes about 5 or so prints to fully recovery, and sometimes as many as 5 printhead recoveries in row from the support menu.

Great Vid! We have an HP Officejet Pro X451dn and replaced the CN459-60375 Duplex Module for HP PRO X451 which contains the waste pads and rollers. The new on (4 months old) seems soaked with ink and has sludge built up around the roller. 1) Can I just replace the pads/roller - if so what would the part numbers be? 2) I have scheduled the printer to switch on/off overnight. Does this startup/shutdown increase the amount of waste ink produced? Many thanks

Hello I followed your video, ive wiped the head about 100 times and ink is still showing on the paper towel heavily. I doesnt matter how much i wipe it. Ink still shows on the paper towel. I even used the printhead cleaner setting on the printer and did all 3 levels. And my black ink still prints messed up. Can you please help

+Honestly lorraine I would need to see a copy of the quality report page. Can you scan and email it? There are a few other things that you must do in combination as well. What ink are you using? Is it HP OEM ink? What paper are you using? Have you done a printhead recover from the maintenance mode? What model printer do you have x451, x551, x476 or x576?

Ive done everything here however it still wont recognize the printer head to make matters worse the entire system on the printer freezes now? any thoughts It posts the Missing or failed printer head message as well as flasshes a paper jam in the top cover which i have ensured was cleared and then it freezes ....

It sounds like the printer is dead. The only other problem is could be small pieces of paper stuck inside the printer, that need to be removed. Use a flashlight and long plyers to remove any paper printers blocking the printhead from moving. Good luck.

The Black always seems to be a problem no matter who is selling it. We purchased 20,000 liters of HP original Ink from overstock that we use in our product. We tried 4 different third party suppliers and had problems with the black on all of them. Is it black that is the issue for you?

Yes the black is the issue. I had never cleaned the waste ink tray as I had not had any problems. Once I started using the third party ink, i had problems so I cleaned the tray but I am still having inconsistent printing. Thanks for the informaiton. Hi Joseph, I assume you are referring to the numbered print-head at the bottom of the quality report page? Yes, we have had examples of recovering from this problem. But it sometimes takes up 20 printhead recoveries in a row (from the support menu) in combination with manual wipes of the printhead. If you send me an email, I can provide some recent examples. We have yet to fully understand, but on occasion this error is non recoverable. It seems like the print-head somehow blocks any ink from entering. Almost, like those sections are permanently damaged / electrically not firing / or ink not flowing. Have seen this happen also with HP - OEM cartridges as well. If it was an ink chemistry issue you would most likely see some banding and streaking on all the colors. (if you are using third party inks). Keep in mind that the Pro-X is the first desktop generation of pagewide printers from HP. It's not hard to imagine that they would have some quality control issues. Seems like all electronics are only built to last a few years - planned obsolescence.

Hey Chuck. After reviewing your print quality report that you emailed us, #9 Printhead has failed on all the colors. Just for disclosure sake, you have never used a third party product (including ours) - only HP original cartridges. But you had not been using ColorLok paper. The printhead failed at 127,089 pages printed. My only suggestion is to run 5-10 printhead recoveries from the printhead diagnostics menu (from support menu). And maybe also manually wiping that section of the printhead. Please see video link below how to access the support menu. We are unsure of why this happens, but believe it might be related to dust from poor quality paper. Did you ever figure this out? I've done the cleaning that I can do, but it doesn't help make it recognize the printhead. By chance, it worked once after cleaning and the quality report came through perfectly fine. Unfortunately, it's back to this error message.

Gary Lobermier I need to circle back with my team on this. we just bought $50k worth of HP servers and our reseller was going to see is she could leverage that to get the printer fixed, but we let it slide for the holidays. she did find out that replacement of the print head is the fix for this issue and the part runs about $30, so for that money we were considering DIYing the repair, seeing as if unsuccessful we would not be out much money.

Curious, I keep getting banding and missing lines vertically through mostly the black. I have run recoveries, cleaned the ink tray and wiped down the head as instructed but this continues although not usually as bad it still is fairly evident. I was curious if you had any other ideas?

Remember there are over 40,000 nozzles -- I would recommend a foam or fabric cloth rather than a paper towel. Do not use wood fiber based products to clean your eye glasses or inkjet heads. The fibers can scratch the nozzles.

Yes, you are correct. However most customers do not have foam or fabric cloth. It so far hasn't seem to affected the printers because it's usually soaked in water or printhead cleaning fluid. But if it was dry I could see it being a problem. Thank you for your feedback though.

The duplexing on these machines seems week. I would say, at about 50,000 the internal mechanism gears seem to fail. You are better off printing one sided and flipping the sheets yourself, if you are doing large quantities.

We do these videos to help users with problems and of course to generate leads for our products. The majority of the problems we have seen, are because users have been using the wrong paper. In addition...for the Pro-X system - who says were not using OEM ink????? ;) We tried all the third party suppliers of Pro-X Ink, German, Korean and American with no luck. Yeah I clocked the ciss unit as well and what the heck is the point of the paper used it for over a year with no issue I'm not getting why there is any correlation.

HP has discontinued the HP pagewide printers. This was due to problems they had with the printhead, it's probably not worth trying to fix to be honest.

@@dawob Thank you. After watching some vids of what it takes to dig through the printer to get to where issues needed to be serviced; I just don't have the time. Talent? Yes. Time? NEVER. For future reference, it would be nice to know where to get the breakout of the error codes. My guess is, just a personal opinion, they won't publish them given they have registered repair shops. Problem is, my experience is that the shops I contacted aren't interested in servicing a unit unless they sold the printer to me or it has one of their service contracts on it. The printer is now resting at the recycler, and it's been replaced. It provided 12+ years of great service. I would have bought the current replacement for the x451, but now being retired, my volume of print needs have reduced and $1,600 is a bit steep for the need. But, I was tempted. (Bought another brand. So dissatisfied. The manual was all of six pages of nothingness. It shipped with a CD for the app. Really? A "CD"??? Spent an hour on call to their support to just get the LAN connected. Understand, I spent 35+ years in IT, hardware, apps, network design/build/install/service, security, support systems, et al, eventually owning three IT companies. It took three different methods, all in the online install instructions, the first two of which even the support person said aren't dependable. Only thing that worked was to download the android app for my smartphone, give away all my privacy, install the net connection back to my home office LAN [via the phone app...], and then uninstall the android app. PROGRAMMERS/DEV'S DON'T WRITE CODE FOR THE END-USERS. THEY WRITE IT TO GET THE JOB OFF THEIR DESKS. DO THEY TEST BEFORE GOING WILD? I HIGHLY DOUBT IT. BUT WE GET TO PAY FOR IT..... As for manuals? Not going to happen. Just bought a new $2K well-known brand television. Manual? Nada: a leaflet of pictures; little else.). Okay, I'm off my soapbox. Thanks again.

Haha the Printhead wiper is still dirty and the Printhead will just get dirty again when it parks. Unless you change the wiper this is a temp fix by cleaning the printbar

you skim over clearing the WASTE ink tray. You take it out yes, then.....it's clean hey presto? Actually what you do is.........step by step
