Thanks. HM76 has at least two SATA3 ports. However unfortunately on some mobile (laptop) boards the optical SATA port is limited to SATA2. If you have a SSD with SATA3 controller it's recommended to install it in the primary bay to fully utilize its transfers speed and move the hard drive to the optical bay. For the hard drive it doesn't really matter if you connect it with SATA2 or 3. It's not able to fully utilize SATA2 speed anyways. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the video. It helped a lot. To everyone thinking about getting an SSD, do it, it's amazing and worth every penny.

Is that make any issues in laptop if I add extra SDD
@vilkas6707 жыл бұрын
So wait. Other than the 2.5" form factor, the physical dimensions of the hdd/sdd don't matter? There is slight variation after all. I actually have the same question w the primary hdd port aswell.

Great Vid, Thanks! I just ordered one of these from your website. Do you know if the SATA connection in the optical drive bay is SATA II or SATA III on this model (HP Probook 4540s with HM76 Express Chipset) .

You must copy your old HD image with a (USB to SATA/IDE) cable to the new SSD and a program (Acronis true image) to make it easier if you need those files and make sure it works then delete old files from the caddy and make it your second HD...then follow this video to install the caddy.

Can I boot a different operating system off the 2nd hard drive like this?
@alecjagger70629 жыл бұрын
Yeah I got it all installed and it works like a external drive but I got windows 10 and I can't find the boot order menu now in my bios. I did a bios update awhile back to fix another issue and never noticed this happened. So now I got to figure out how to boot the new drive with no option to do so in my bios.

hp pb4540s is unable to boot from caddy. I tried 2 different caddies, 5 diffferent hdd and ssd, but no luck, it won't boot. Even after upgrading bios, nothing at all.

+Alec Lacy I already had two drives with operating systems installed on each, Windows 10/Elementary OS(linux distro). I left the Linux in the main HD bay, added the Windows to the DVD bay. Booted up Linux and edited Grub for a boot menu. No issues at all

+kcf6969 That was my initial setup as well (with different distros), I but since I don't use windows more than 1 time a year, and main ssd drive host all data I need, I ended up removing dvd hdd. Shorter battery time and slower access and transfer speeds were mostly to blame. That HD now sits in usb3 case so if I need data I can access it at any time.
