8:27 one correction here, "hardcore simulation" games don't use VR controllers at all, they use stuff like flight sticks and racing wheels, so the G2 is actually a perfect headset for those applications, especially since these games feature small panels with a lot of detail that you need to read at a glance, so the increased resolution helps a lot.

I've had my HP Reverb G2 for three days now. I've played a lot of Fallout 4 VR, tested it in No Man's Sky (most settings on Ultra) and started my second run on Half Life Alyx (my first run through was with my Rift S). Optics amazing as everyone has said. I've had no issues with tracking with the controllers (I am conscious that tracking is with visible light from LED's). Also I have LED lights at night in my room and they don't affect tracking. My big concern was my graphics card, it's a GTX 1070Ti not overclocked (has 8GB RAM). To my surprise this handles the games very well (CPU: i9-9900K not overclocked, 32GB 3200 RAM, NVMe SSD's and normal SSD's for storage). Hopes this helps those wondering if their graphics card is good enough as I've seen nothing about using a 1070Ti with the G2.
@Kurmeloinen4 жыл бұрын
Cool, just have to say thanks to your comment! I have the same graphics card, and was wondering about the need for an update on that department, on top of the headset. :) Glad to hear the controllers are working fine, since there's so much mixed talk about them. My own latest headset is from the time when Oculus CV1 first came out, before they even bundled or sold the controllers for it, so I'm very eager to get back in VR gaming with some modern gear.
@tomholy4 жыл бұрын
@@Kurmeloinen I do have an update on this after a lot of use and investigation from other people. I have experienced some unexpected shutdowns and one (last night as I was experimenting with settings) complete computer freeze up, something that is very rare, in fact I can't remember the last time it happened. I put it down to the video card being pushed to its limit (which really interestingly does not show up in its running temperature which is pretty stable around 70 degrees C). I strongly urge you to go to: docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/mixed-reality/enthusiast-guide/using-steamvr-with-windows-mixed-reality#:~:text=Open%20the%20SteamVR%20dashboard.,to%20enable%20automatic%20motion%20reprojection . Read this and do as they suggest and use the indicator that will appear in the top left of your VR screen to assess how your system (computer including video card) is coping in each game you play. For me now to avoid any issues, I have set in the SteamVR settings panel you access inside your VR headset or by plugging in your headset then opening Steam VR settings and doing this from your desktop, in the General (on the left) tab that opens up, set it to Auto and not custom. Then in the Video tab you can set each game with its Custom Resolution Modifier (I recommend you start at 100%). To do this you must first start the game you want to adjust and its name will appear at the top of this window. The ideal is when the indicator I mentioned above that will be showing in your VR headset at the top right has a green square. If it has a red square then you're stressing your system and risking some errors occurring. All this tells me that the GTX 1070Ti is right on the limit to use without issues and will have issues if you push it too hard. However it is totally useable and will give you a very good experience until you can afford one of the 3000 series of cards which is my long term plan.

@john I am not a big fan of the Rift S, it was worse than my O+. I hate most Oculus headsets, so I'm not the one to ask that, lol. Mine is running at 52% resolution and it is still like looking at a 2k monitor, it is that clear. 90% of the aliasing and god rays you see in most headsets are gone. SDE is 99% gone. In fact most videos you see of someone using the G2, actually looks better in the G2 than on KZbin.

@TayoEXE4 жыл бұрын
"Never understood." That's why you ask. For starters, not everyone has a lot of space, even if they have a PC. They may just do not like the added need to have them set up just to hop into a game. They feel like they confine your VR play space to one area. I admit they make sense for a wired headset more since you're confined to the area with your PC, but for something standalone or wireless, which can be easily taken and played in many different areas or even with no boundaries like a basketball court or something, lighthouses make zero sense. I also just feel that in terms of simplifying VR and making it more versatile, improving and working on standalone, inside-out tracking methods makes more sense for the future. That's all my opinion, though.
@steel58974 жыл бұрын
Oculus has made inside-out so good that I don't think base stations make sense anymore. Of course, that's just Oculus, WMR is still crap and the G2 would be much better off if it was a SteamVR headset.

Have had no problems with controller tracking, but I agree with the short handles. Quest 2 looks like a 720p monitor. The G2 looks like a 2k monitor. That is the only way I can explain it. I also had a problem with the headset moving down after around 30 minutes. I took my head strap off my O+ and put on it. Now it is a perfect. I noticed the controllers messing up like yours until I switched SteamVR and WMR for SteamVR to beta and then it was fixed. Might be another reason why my controllers are tracking so good.
@SimpleSaemple4 жыл бұрын
Does that fix it? Maybe I will consider purchasing it because I would love a non-Facebook VR headset which actually works well.
@ComdrStew4 жыл бұрын
@@SimpleSaemple Couple reasons why. First was the SteamVR and WMR for SteamVR on beta and the other is the batteries. With WMR controllers you need good batteries like Duracell Optimums or if you use rechargeable like I do, use 1.5v or higher. PKCELL on Amazon are good rechargeables and is what I use. 4 days into testing and I agree with this review 100%. Good on you for pointing out the need to tweak controller maps, Boneworks is broken out-of-the-box until you switch to the non-default bindings. Another big point that CANNOT be understated -- Many games will REQUIRE you to manually lower the render resolution in SteamVR. I'm running a 2080 Ti, and Star Wars: Squadrons was a huge disappointment... at first. SteamVR by default is almost doubling the G2's already massive native resolution for super-sampling purposes. Lowering the render resolution to 65% (which is still WAY higher than what you see on Quest2 via Link or VD) made the game absolutely amazing and buttery smooth, a tremendous relief, and I honestly don't even notice much of a decrease in sharpness. The same goes for Stormland and Asgard's Wrath -- they're playable via ReVive, but not with the super-sampling cranked (default settings).
@MartynDerg3 жыл бұрын
I got the reverb g2. "bad controllers" is a fucking understatement and a half. the tracking makes it borderline unusable for any, and I mean ANY vr game. Wanna play beat saber? nope. Wanna play boneworks? Nope with a side of "the controllers literally can't be bound". Wanna play half life alyx? Sure, but keep your hands infront of your face at ALL TIMES. Wanna play gorn? HAHAHAHA YEAH NAH. I'm about to follow that guide you made so I can pair my old vive controllers with it. And believe me, you know something has bad controllers, when the VIVE WANDS ARE CONSIDERED A MASSIVE UPGRADE. the vive wants are the second worst controllers I have ever used, topped only by the reverb g2's controllers. I've used the quest 2, oculus rift, rift s, and vive.

i kinda agree, (although i saw the comment from upload vr that explained they used the correct lighting while actually testing the g2) i have a lenovo explorer and although the tracking is bad, im sure its not as bad as what i just saw in this video. i have literally never had occlusion issues when holding a rifle for example. not that i have noticed anyway. i definitely do with pistols though. so it is a bit strange. but even with two extra cameras, it is still wmr, and wmr is still pretty bad at tracking. on a cheap headset that is absolutely fine as its still a great and under appreciated experience. but for this kind of price it is a bit of a tough ask. i will likely still be upgrading to it at some point though as i really want better visuals, so far i have had a pretty good experience with wmr, its super convenient etc. and i mostly play dirt rally in vr, i dont play much other stuff these days. so it would be great for me. p.s - the only real thing that ever annoyed me about wmr tracking was the controllers getting 'stuck' from losing tracking when holding too close to face, often happened when ADS in onward etc, made scopes very difficult if not impossible. none of the other tracking concerns bothered me. it was just the close to face tracking, and two handed pistol occlusion. two handed rifles never had occlusion, and losing tracking when im not looking at the controllers or when they are out of my fov never affected my gameplay or bothered me much either. unfortunately the one thing i wanted fixed (close to face tracking) has not been fixed... :-P

I've had my HP Reverb G2 for about 1 week now. Been playing: Half-Life: Alyx, Beat Saber, Super Hot Demo, Project Cars 2 Demo, and Asseto Corsa. Been very impressed with it so far. This is my first VR headset so I don't have the experience of what good or better inside out tracking is but I've had no major complaints or issues. One thing to keep in mind as per MRTV, the room can't be too bright as the controllers are being tracked by the lights on them, not infared like other VR Headsets. Yes there are times you may need to hold up your controllers a bit higher or look down a bit for better tracking, but nothing that makes games unplayable. In the future I'll probably slowly gather the hardware to change over to the valve index controllers, but out of the box the G2 is a great headset and should NOT be overlooked just because of the controllers.

I have the reverb g2. The display is amazing, but, the controllers are genuinely awful to work with. It's constantly losing tracking, and it breaks immersion and is infuriating to deal with. Also, the bracket is trash, it makes me think they didn't even bother testing the headset. Serious quality control issues.

Now you sound like a true owner of the g2. I have a quest 2 but even I have my own issues with it. 1. The resolution upgrade from the rift is noticeable but when you use oculus link, you come across graphical issues that you need to do tons of research to barely fix like blurry textures/pop ins. 2. Playing a steam vr game can take minutes to load into which can be tedious in the long term. Wish there was a faster way to play non quest games. 3. Tracking is not as good as the rift without sensor stations but decent. 4. Quest game store is a joke, only re 4 vr seems good. Starwars at galaxys edge was aight but too mediocre and unexciting. 4. Fov is the same as the rift which is so disappointing. Pros 1. You can play anywhere in your room which is useful if your sim rig is on the other side of the room. Because of the lack of bay or sensor stations. With the rift, I had to move my sensors all the time any time I want to race on my rig. 2. Controllers track better than I expected without stations but still not as good as the rift imo. Skyrim vr archery is still natural tho. No immersion breaking. 3. Play quest games with no wire is pretty great on certain games. But oculus still need to step up on their quest library of games.

Make an experiment. Plug-in these goggles, WMR window pops up. Go to your central point with goggles and put them on. Microsoft Windows probably wants you to look around so it can record your room. So, slowly look around in all directions to the front. Then, go to your PC again and select the WMR app page with play type (standing or seated). Stand and click the seated gameplay. Click the icon to start SteamVR. Now, go back to your central point with googles. Put them on. Press the joystick to spawn the SteamVR dashboard in VR goggles. There is a re-center button in the down-right position of that dashboard. Standing front to your desired direction and in central pivot point click "Re-center". Let's test if the tracking works better with "seated play" while normally standing in your room and playing. I played games with Samsung Odyssey+ for 2 years like this. You need to watch out for surroundings not to hit controller against anything in your room. I mostly stand and make one step forwards or backwards, but don't walk much to avoid collision. See my channel. Odyssey+ was great at tracking. Super great. Sometimes, very rare, if I lost the central point, I would just just re-center with SteamVR po up.

For me WMR is average, maybe sub-par, but not awful. I still think the tracking is nicer than Vive Cosmos (or at least what it was on launch?). As long as you know its limitations you'll be fine. If you can get around WMR then this is a really awesome headset and that's why I have one ordered! I have my fingers crossed they'll do some major software updates or maybe come out with "pro" controllers, there's an idea!

Hello, I have a question: At 5:48 I see the volume alternately change level 48 and 24. Why? I have a problem with my HP G1. I think it is because a broken cable. My headset switch between the HMD sound output and the default Windows output. Like in this video. Is this happening another HP devices? Is this a software bug? I thought my cable is broken but maybe not?

@@kuyabooya7741 the G2 headset tracking itself is no problem at all. You also need two Vive Tracker USB Dongles, one for every Index Controller and some Software, that is easy to setup what is good, because from time to time you need to recalibrate it.

HP sucks for taking preorders without beein able to deliver, ignore the EU completely and pissing off people after months of waiting. I wonder if the g3 arrives before the g2 at this point. A total mess as you can see on reddit.

@@blizado3675 Basically I've been waiting for a headset since HLA launched. Thats 8 months. First ordered a Rift S but was out of stock everywhere. While waiting I came across the G2. Canceled my Rift order and put this on pre-order in July thinking it's gonna be a few extra months of waiting. I understand there's gonna be delays, but would assume a big manufacturer would have some idea of the production time from the get-go. They just keep pushing it back. I think they've pushed it back at least 4 times now.
@blizado36754 жыл бұрын
@@samik83 Not really. Before HP said they will send in the end of October / early November they said only "Fall 2020". That other dates comes all from resellers that know more than HP itself. So it was not that bad how it looks like. Also I'm sure HPs plans look different as what it now looks like. It seams they have problems to produce enough headsets per day and that is more a issue with a other company that producte parts for the G2 to HP or HP would have know they will have this problem. Many companies have problems to produce enough Hardware this days. NVidia can't produce enough Graphic cards, AMD seems to have the same issue with their new Graphic cards and CPUs too. Maybe it is a Corona thing, like often this days. Yeah, that was bad luck with the Rift S and the G2 now. I get my Rift S luckily end of 2019 before Corona runs wild.

@@techinfusions for me touch sensitive buttons are important and they are something that now that I've had them I cannot live without them. The tracking I've heard is very poor when placing the controllers to your sides or above your head which is important for me as I enjoy social games like pavlov vr. Also the tracking method is just not as accurate as oculus's and never will be, even though I don't like facebook they have a very accurate and reliable tracking system that is so good that when doing gestures behind my back it can sometimes predict what I'm doing.

@@techinfusions honestly I'm just going to wait till the decagear 1 as that sounds like an absolutely amazing headset. Individual finger tracking, with pressure sensitive controllers and touch sensitive buttons, as well as an infrared tracking system like Oculus's, as well as the same exact display as the HP Reverb G2, the ability to be wireless, however not standalone, and finally the fov is apparently going to be 114 degrees diagonally like the HP Reverb G2 or possibly in the 120s as they are working on a dual lens arrangement.
