HP Slate 21 Slate 21 Pro touchscreen repair 100% WORKING!!!!

Hello every one,
Here is a great news!!!
I have found why HP Slate 21 /Slate 21 Pro is defective so often : its because of low quality or defective IR retroflector of his touchscreen technology.
Hopefully, I have found a brand that manufacture IR retroreflective tape in China : its Visuaplas!
They send me some sample of IR Retroreflectors.
The one I used is branded TPR208 and in this video I show you the replacement of the upper IR retroflector of the slate 21.
Its now working perfectly!
I will update the description with a shop link to buy the IR retroreflector kit as soon as Visualplas send it to me.

For others unsure how to open the front cover, like David has said, use a mediator or credit card or something thin and firm, I used a guitar pick, and you'll need to prop open all the plastic clippings that go all around the bezel. My tip would be to start at the power button area as there seems to be a bigger gap to start with. Also note that you'll be taking off the white frame that is left, top, and right of the lid, and also the silver speaker grill as that is attached. After you've taken this off, you can notice on the four edges of the screen the pre-existing sensors, with a purple tape layer on top. Try to remove these layers first and see if that fixes your problem. I tried it and it worked slightly, with some areas not responding. So I ordered the replacement strips from Visuaplus, and I stuck the strips on ALL four sides. Another tip like in Dave's video, when you're testing the touchscreen after you've made your adjustments, if it doesn't work, try restarting the machine again first. I got it working again with the lid removed, then when I clipped the lid back it stopped working. After another restart, it started working again. Hope this helps others out there.. this is a great machine!

Hi, great video, just what I was looking for as my Slate 21 screen has decided to stop working. Can I ask if you have removed the original tape before fitting the tpr800, and if you cover the corners. I ask this as it cost me 58usd which I cannot afford to waste. Regards, Alan

happy that this is usefull for you, it was hard to find, and so inexpensive to repair! Alternatively, you can try separating the actual ir reflector, and just keep the rflective part without the IR filter (purple plastic part) and just try this way for a dirty fix... its mainly the IR filtering material that becomes defective!

@@johnchatragadda just read other comments below, I have gave another tip to try before buying....(removing translucent purple part of original ir.... it won't filter IR anymore but the reflective may still be intact)

I think this is amazing how you fixed it. I have found our Slate 21 touch screen has become temperamental and we just went mouse. Does the tape have to be this brand? I was wondering what the difference is when compared to white reflective pin stripe for auto (car) detailing. All over eBay.

just mail the contact in the description, i am not affiliated in any way. but before doing that, try the tip to only keep the relfective part of the original stripe ( the purple transparent part is not needed for good operation ;) for the brand i have searched all the web for manufacturer, there are many ir reflective tapes available, but its hard to find one that do stripes, in general its scare form for sensor in industrial automation.

I just measured the orignials ones and then asked them and they send me the ir bands with the good lenght. Before ordering, just try to remove the IR filter ( purple part of the original IR reflective Tape , keep the reflective part just remove the purpple filter) for me it works as new with this purple part removed, without replacing anything!

In the end, I didn't need to on mine. I just sprayed the inside edges with cleaning alcohol, then used a cotton bud to wipe it all clean. Now it works!

So if the IR cut filter is defective and do you say it isn't needed, then reflective white? Would it work? Even comes in adhesive tape roll. I saw this on an eBay listing for reflective pinstripe for cars/scooters. So I was wondering how wide the tape that you used would be. 5mm? SALE... just listen to me carefully, take the original reflective, remove the "purple" translucent part from it and just put back the reflective part, it would work like a champ, be care full, not all reflective are working well with ir sensor, so this solution is even better than buying new. often it is the reflective from the bottom that is dead ( bad cleaning of the screen with corrosive product felt down on it) good luck man !
