Thanks. Tip for amateurs (like me) - when you lift the sticky strip (Step 1), make sure you get the WHOLE strip - there are actually two strips stuck together, and in one instance I pulled the stip off only to find there was a 2nd very thin strip still there. Anyway, I was able to lift it and stick the two halves together more or less correctly.

the battery was purchased from a computer store local to me

I picked one up recently from an ebay seller in Shenzen - it was listed as new and appears to work correctly. I'd looked for replacement parts with HP resellers, but wasn't able to find anything without resorting to either ebay or non-OEM parts.
