I repaired a laptop myself, I plugged in charger and checked where is the heat. I felt a sharp sting in my hand, it was a little capacitor that would instantly heat when plugged in. I removed it and magically my laptop booted on and worked.

This dodgy cap was consuming all the current that chip could provide on that rail that's why the voltage was very low there. Sorin's way is great man.

The battery was not charging, or probably was so low because the short depleted it so it was taking the recovery charge with very little current.

With most faults being with MOSFETs, power management chips and.caps. why isn't there any efforts in making these devices larger to handle more power rating and reliability. Usb D will probably be same fragile piece of poop.
