This makes me appreciate the handbook even more. Some younger people might not get this... People don't know how much effort goes ino building a product. Most devices these days don't even have a manual, and when they do no one cares. Well, Hp calculator community do care! Thank you very much Eric!

My hats off to Eric for the sheer amount of work and the fine product he was involved in. Writing documentation that really covers the subject but still short enough to be brief is an art. Great job.

Thank you for all the efforts on this manual. Got my CE a few days ago. The whole thing exudes quality and fine workmanship - as does the manual. Fantastic job!

Talk about a labor of love! Thanks guys, and I am looking forward to getting a CE (I don't really care for the LE). And where can we find the manuals?
@@hpcalc Thank you!! Now I'm going to have to do a side by side comparison. :)

Slide 28 has the order of the manuals switched. I think you said the one on the far right is the excellent update for the 15C CE but is labeled LE. Thank you for this work as I received the calculator last week and the manual is an absolute gem!

Good catch. I have fixed the presentation file for future reference (on the USB drive now and eventually will be shared online). Thanks for the kind words.

I received my CE a couple of weeks ago and was amazed by how much difference this beautifully designed and printed manual made. I found myself actually using the advanced functions of the calculator where, using Bill Foote's excellent Android emulator, I'd previously floundered in the foothills of the learning curve! Just downloaded the Advanced Functions Manual too, but it is a pity it does not exist in printed form: I discovered with the Owner's Handbook that this really does make all the difference. If it is not commercial to get a print run, maybe it could be put on a print-on-demand service? Are the fonts you refer to as being on the conference USB also available to be downloaded? Maybe (pushing my luck) even the Font Forge files so we can extend them as necessary for other Voyager versions?

Great Work. Thanks a lot. I used it already sometimes and admitted the detailed work! Anyway: For good looking formulas and spacing (kerning), why not using LaTeX? Things like parenthesis in f(t)=h(t)-107 would be consistent anyway. I hoped to find the LaTeX sources somewhere...

I've just bought a HP15c CE in the UK and the manual which is included is very good from a technical perspective - so well done Eric. I have to say though that the quality of the paper and cover used is poor - well below the standard of the original 15c manual - (which I actually prefer to use also because it is ring bound and smaller). In addition whilst the calculator is very good, the performance of the keys is not as good as the original HP15 and HP11 (which I also own) and which have "identical" keyboard performance. The keys of the new calculator have a significantly longer travel than the originals and are much noisier than the originals.

I wish all this effort put in a basic calculator was for implement a HP50g which is way better and powerful for engineering. So many engineers in need of an HP50g and we don't get anything from HP. Make a survey, guys...
@hpcalc Жыл бұрын
The effort to produce a remake of the 50g would be orders of magnitude more than a remake of the 15c. All the 15c CE required was to take the existing 12c, change the faceplate (and key labels), and load the 15C ROM (with some patches) instead of the 12C ROM. Even if the industrial design could be retained, a 50g remake would still be on its own production line, and would need a new SoC to be selected, a new circuit board to be designed, and a new operating system developed to run on that SoC, on top of which the existing Saturn code could be run. This would be as much work as developing the Prime G2 (over the G1), but with a significantly lower expected RoI. While possible, a 50g remake would be far, far more difficult than the 15c CE was. So "all this effort" wouldn't have even gotten you 10% of the way there.

If you had read Eric's superb manual, you'd know that the 15c is very far from being a 'basic calculator'. It has amazing feature depth which is very thoughtfully implemented. Sure the limited display hobbles it in a few places, but I for one really value the minimalist design. If you want a 50g there are great emulators available for your smartphone, and the HP Prime can still be bought new.
